Free Music Notes for Frank [Deluxe Edition]Free Music Review: Amy Amy Amy Deluxe Hit: 5 Stars
While Back To Black shot Amy into superstardom, her jazzier 2003 debut Frank is the superior album. Don't get me wrong. Black is one of the best albums out there, but her voice had more agility back in the day and the production on her debut was retro yet modern.
The second disc of the deluxe edition includes demos, some remixes of songs on the first disc, and a few jazz standard covers. The woozy cover of Round Midnight is intoxicating as well as Fools Gold (an original demo), Teach Me Tonight, and Someone To Watch Over Me. The live version of Take The Box proves that Amy's voice used to have such power that could rival Christina Aguilera's. Great remix of In My Bed too (CJ Mix)! More B-sides like Do Me Good and Procrastination would've been nice since the demos and live versions of certain songs got repetitive, but it's a small complaint. Can't wait for some new material, Amy!
Free Music Review: Great Artist and Song Stylist Hit: 5 Stars
If she lives long enough and keeps developing her craft, Amy will rank among the great female vocalists of all time: Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, etc. On this album she manages to rise above some horrendous arrangements and tedious percussion (is it human or machine-made?) on "Round Midnight" and "Moody's Mood for Love" and others. Some of the newer material is outstanding and is brilliantly executed: "I Heard Love Is Blind" and "F*** Me Pumps" come to mind. Curiously, the lengthy title song is my least favorite on the album, but I don't care: There are so many others to enjoy and savor. I wish she would take better care of herself. It is as if she is slowly committing suicide before our eyes...and no one seems able to stop her.
Free Music Review: Amy Winehouse Deluxe edition Hit: 5 Stars
I was recently turned on to this amazing and talented young woman. I purchased her "Back to Black" album earlier this year and instantly fell in love with her music. I was visiting a friend in Wash DC a few months ago and he had a few of her songs from A.W. "Frank" on his computer. He told me that she would have a deluxe edition coming out. Of course, when returned home to ATL I searched amazon.com and found the "Deluxe edition" of her "Frank Album" and ordered it. I have truly listened to this CD ever since I received it in the mail. You will not be disappointed. SUPER SUPER SUPER Vocalist. I love her despite the fact that she has a serious problem with her life on drugs right now. BUY this album now and Get hooked on A.W.
Free Music Review: what a talent Hit: 5 Stars
BACK IN BLACK was my favorite cd of the last two years. so i wanted to go back and hear how our amy sounded before. its not as stylized its a bit looser but the two cd set is chock full of incredible performances lots of great originals that are not particularly in the style of BIB but still noteworthy and on the second cd there are some exquisite remakes of some amazing standards and some interesting remixes of songs from the first cd. the booklet is full of pictures of a beautiful young healthy woman. what a talent. what a shame if we lose her.
Free Music Review: Amy Winehouse Hit: 5 Stars
I was one of those watching the news of Amy's "drug habits" until one day I thought well what does Amy actually do. So I watched some of the music videos on you-tube of early Amy Winehouse and have been hooked ever since. She is thee Only one I listen to on my i-pod. Frank and Back to Black plus others that have not been recorded. That voice, it's the voice and range, it's raw, honest and addictive. Stay with us Amy, your not done yet. She is our Janis Joplin/Billy Holiday.
