Free Music Notes for CitiesFree Music Review: One word - Phenomenal Hit: 5 StarsLet me ask you one question. Why do you buy a cd? Most people would say because they like one or two songs on it. But if you ask me that question, its because I make the purchase with the anticipation of putting it in the cd player and falling in love with every song and never having to hit skip. I have come across very few cds that i can do that with. Most of the time it takes a few forced listens through some of the songs in order for them to grown onto you.
That being said, when I came home with Cities I was in complete AWE. Never have i ever sat down listening to a cd and never even made the motion to skip to the next song. From beginning to close, Anberlin takes you on a musical journey that you will never forget. The vocals and unique sounds that come out of your speakers will leave wanting more and more. I have turned the cd through probably about 15 to 20 times total, with a few of the tracks getting special attention, and i cant get enough. With tracks like Adelaide, Dismantle Repair, Alexithymia, and The Unwinding Cable Car, Anberlin is sure to have a Masterpiece here.
Free Music Review: 4 and a half Hit: 4 StarsFirst off, I just want to say that this album is absolutely amazing, beautiful and stunning. They've built so well on their sound and refined it almost to perfection.
While they have some of their best songs on this record, it's the only album where there's a song I truly don't like.
There's so many more layers to the songs here, and it just detracts (slightly) from their sound. I honestly prefer "Never Take Friendship Personal", but that's not saying that this album is anything less than amazing.
"Alexithymia" is my favourite Anberlin song of all time.
Great album, nothing to complain about here.
Free Music Review: Instant classic Hit: 5 StarsThe reviews here speak for themselves. This is great, great stuff. Anberlin is able to successfully and continually mix energy, emotion, and creativity. They have a style all their own and at the same remain completely original. They really nailed it with this release. NTFP was really good I'm sure we all agree. But this is another level. The only word to describe "Fin*" is epic. One of the most incredible songs ever written in my books. Lots of variety here too. Disgustingly good album by a great band. Give me more Anberlin
Free Music Review: Best CD of the year, so far Hit: 5 StarsThe best album I have purchased this year. The catchiness never lets go for the whole cd from (Debut) through (*Fin).
Tracks of particular interest are:
A Whisper & A Clamour, the first track I heard (on local radio). It grabbed my ears and made me listen.
The Unwinding Cable Car, something about the melodies and harmonies on this track really gets me.
(*Fin) Probably my favorite track. This is an epic piece of music that closes the cd with greatness. Or maybe I'm just a sucker for boy choirs.
If you like emo music that's not simply emo music and is even a bit positive at times then go right ahead and click this cd into your shopping cart. You will like it.
Free Music Review: Rock and Roll Heaven Hit: 5 StarsOn their third release, Anberlin has more than come of age. Once again teamed with super-producer Aaron Sprinkle (Kutless, Hawk Nelson), the band delivers arguably their best work yet. Lead singer Stephen Christian has one of the best voices in rock, in my opinion. On this disc he also delivers very introspective musings in the lyrics. The album kicks off with the frenetic, hard-rocking track "Godspeed." Pop-friendly cuts include "A Whisper And A Clamor", and "Adelaide." The band slows it down a bit on "Inevitable", and on the acoustic gem "The Unwinding Cable Car." Another highlight is the powerful chorus of "Dismantle.Repair.", one of the album's strongest cuts. The last song, "Fin", gives the album a rousing ending, starting slow and speeding up to an emphatic conclusion. If you buy the special edition, there are three bonus tracks and a DVD documenting the making of the album. The three songs alone make it worth the extra money. Also, if you download the single for "Godspeed" on iTunes, it comes with a bonus track "Haunting", which is amazing-worth the $1.98, and should have been included on the album. The band is very entertaining live as well.
