Free Music Review: A Multilingual Romance Album!!
Hit: 5 Stars

+++++

The blind tenor from Tuscany (region of central Italy) does it again!! This is Andrea Bocelli's first ever album of popular songs.

The songs selected are those from the 1920s to 1980s. They are sung in Italian, Spanish, French, English, or some combination of two languages.

Another feature of this album is the lineup of the world's finest instrumentalists who, between, them have worked with almost every major artist in the recent musical era. Some of the instruments you'll hear are as follows: guitar (different types), mandolin, drums, piano, trumpet, and even flute.

The end result is Bocelli's unique interpretation of classical pop standards creating a beautiful album.

All song tracks are between three and five minutes except one (#9 below) that lasts just over five minutes.

Below I will give the title of each song (with the title's translation), the language(s) it's sung in, and any other relevant information that I think may be useful. Note that an asterisk indicates my personal favorites.

(1) Amapola (Poppy); sung in Spanish.
(2) Besame Mucho (Kiss Me a Lot); sung in Spanish*.
(3) Les Feuilles Mortes (Autumn Leaves); the only song sung entirely in French.
(4) Mi Manchi (I Miss You); sung in Italian; featuring Kenny G.
(5) Somos Novios (It's Impossible); sung in Spanish; duet with Christina Aguilera*.
(6) Solamente Una Vez (Only Once); sung in Spanish.
(7) Jurame (Promise Me); sung in Spanish; listen for the Flamenco Guitar and other instrumentals*.
(8) Pero Te Extrano (But I Miss You); sung in Spanish.
(9) Canzoni Stonate (Songs Out of Tune); sung in Italian; featuring Stevie Wonder on Harmonica and additional Italian vocals; listen for Andrea playing the Klavier (a type of keyboard )*.
(10) L'appuntamento (The Appointment); sung in Italian; listen for Andrea playing the Klavier.
(11) Cuando Me Enamoro (When I Am in Love); sung in Italian alternating with Spanish*.
(12) Can't Help Falling in Love; the only song sung entirely in English; recorded live*.
(13) Because We Believe; sung in Italian alternating with English*.
(14) Ama Credi E Vai (Because We Believe); sung in Italian.

Finally, I had two minor problems with the booklet included. First, lyrics are printed in foreign languages. It would have been helpful to have an English translation beside the foreign language. Second, some lyrics are printed in red on a black background. I found this very difficult on the eyes.

In conclusion, what do you get when you cross the most beautiful love songs in the world with the most romantic voice in the world? Answer: this album!!

(released 2006; 14 tracks; 57 2/3 min)

Free Music Review: THE AMAZING ANDREA: BREATHTAKING AND DARING!!.
Hit: 5 Stars

Five "Jaw-Dropping" Stars!! Make it SIX Stars!!! A beautiful, beautiful CD.
Andrea Bocelli's amazing voice leaves the classical realm to bend itself around some of the world's greatest love songs. HIS WAY!! I'll admit I was skeptical about the concept, but Andrea puts his personal stamp on songs we all know and which have been sung by many of the world's (other) greatest singers! Does it work? YOU BET!! And his voice adds so much drama to these classics. In Italian, French, English, or Spanish, he's more than up to the task of delivering stunning performances, over and over. Andrea is not competing with the likes of Sarah Vaughn's "Autumn Leaves" or Perry Como's "It's Impossible", but adding his own memorable versions to our IPods. And taking a page from the younger music crowd, he daringly has guests: a sultry Christina Aguilera, Kenny G, girlfriend Veronica Berti (much too briefly), and the fabulous Stevie Wonder (reminding us of how truly great a harmonica artist he is) all of whom are tremendous. Chris Botti is on trumpet in the orchestra and how proud he must have been to be in on this project.

My favorite 'Pieces de Resistance', best of the best, begin with the breathtaking "Amapola" with the amazing octave jump, and a fabulous "Besame Mucho", which astonishingly seems like it was tailor made for him. "It's Impossible" gets a new lease on life as a breathtaking duet from Christina Aguilera and Andrea: fabulous harmonies abound. "Solamente Una Vez" (multi-tracked voice, aka "You Belong To My Heart") is pure unadulterated beauty. "Canzoni stonate" is a hoot as Andrea and Stevie Wonder gently "scat" together in the second half of the song, following Wonder's 'killer' harmonica solo. Stevie seems to be able to play and sing with anyone, anywhere, as does Andrea. Both versions of the very inspirational "Because We Believe" soar with eagles. I think Pavoratti is gonna love this unusual wonderful CD. One question, where the heck was Nelly and Tony Bennett? LOL. This is a great CD for a candle-lit dinner, driving around town, or anytime you need inspiration. Andrea Bocelli is a singer's singer, his time is flawless, and he is so patient, wringing every ounce of poignancy from every note! Wonderful orchestra, great arrangement!! Hats off to David Foster, Humberto Gatica, and co - producer Tony Reni. Highly Recommended and a 'must-have' for 2006. SIX HUGE Stars.

(Note: This review is based on the 14 Track ITunes Music Store download of the CD. ITunes accidentally dropped Diana Krall's "Jingle Bells" into the download as an extra track. When I saw the listing prior to hearing the track, heck, I expected Bocelli to pull that one off too. Seriously, a Christmas Bocelli CD would be fantastic!)

Free Music Review: I must say...
Hit: 5 Stars

I must say - as a die-hard Andrea Bocelli fanatic, I was very excited about this CD the moment it was first announced for pre-order. I pre-ordered it because I couldn't wait to hear what he would do for this one even though it was released in 2006.

Although this album marks the first time he ever devoted an entire album to covers of his favorite songs (not counting "Because We Believe," which appears in two versions and which Bocelli himself co-wrote with David Foster, one of this album's producers - that producer's daughter wrote the English lyrics), the best part is Bocelli sticks to the traditional romantic ballad formula that's made him a beloved figure in many parts of the world all this time. At the same time, he branches out into a more traditional Latin ballad style with this album. (NOTE: The style is NOT like Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Shakira, etc., but more in the Luis Miguel/Julio Iglesias fashion.)

If I were to choose my three favorite songs from this album, they would be "Bésame Mucho," "Somos Novios (It's Impossible)" with Christina Aguilera (she sounds AMAZING in this song and I usually don't like her for the "standard" music she's been doing), and "Because We Believe" (the song I mentioned earlier), which was first introduced at the start of the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Torino, Italy, and as "Ama Credi e Vai" went on to become the theme song to the 2006 World Cup. "Because We Believe" is the best of the lot because of its inspirational lyrics and soaring, yet optimistic, Viennese waltz-style arrangement.

The other songs are magnificent, too, but the three I chose stand out.

Well, anyway, I recommend this album to anyone and everyone who has an ear for soft, pleasant, romantic music. If you can't handle an album with a sophisticated style like this or an artist like Andrea Bocelli (his style IS complex!), then just stick to your precious Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, the Backstreet Boys, N Sync, Justin Timberlake, Lindsay Lohan, and your precious hard pop, hard R&B, hip-hop, and harder mainstream rock bands, all of which there are too many to mention nowadays. Some people prefer music like this to those artists and I don't blame them.

I'm goin' to sleep. Good night!

Free Music Review: Ignore the Snobberry .. This Is A Wonderful CD!
Hit: 5 Stars

Although there are very few negative reviews, I am struck by the comments of a few that either this was 'a waste of a wonderful voice,' that the songs 'didn't move' them, or some other nonsense! The fact is, this is a phenomenal CD!

Yes, I could have done without the monotony of yet another sound-alike, syrupy performance by Kenny G (when is this guy's 15 minutes going to end?). In fact, after hearing the first note blown by Kenny G, I made certain that the song was on permanent skip. But almost without exception, every OTHER song is first rate. Who would have thought that I would ever want to listen to a song that includes Christina Aguilera, although at times I feel she is trying to one-up Mr. Bocelli (on HIS CD, no less). Still, the tune "Somos Novios (It's Impossible)" is enjoyable, and Bocelli's voice makes it thus.

This is a collection of a few of the best easy-listening tunes of the 60s and 70s, and to hear Bocelli glide through them effortlessly makes this a wise investment of a mere $12.96! "Les Feuilles Mortes" is an interesting yet memorable redux of "Autumn Leaves," which to now had been relegated to the likes of Liberace-esque piano maestros. The only song that doesn't really work here is Elvis anthem "Can't Help Falling In Love (Fools Rush In)." I agree with a previous reviewer that it is hard to listen to this song from someone other than Elvis. It's just a song that I always associate with him.

Discount everything I have written to this point if you choose but the closing number, and its Italian language encore, are worth every penny paid for this CD! "Ama Credi E Vai (Because We Believe)" is simply breathtaking and was written by Mr Bocelli to sing at the Opening Ceremonies of the Torino Olympic Games! Andrea mentioned that once he heard the first few notes from Mr Foster's piano, it took him all of 10 minutes to write the lyric, and that was a sign to him that the lyric was divinely provided. One of the most inspirational and rapturous songs that I can remember, this song will cause you to stop and know that there is something greater than ourselves to believe in!

Bravo, Mr Bocelli! This CD is an achievement.

Free Music Review: The music of love (Amore)
Hit: 5 Stars

I think Celine Dion got it right when she said "if god had a singing voice he's sound like Andrea Bocelli". This man has got to have the most beautiful voice I've ever heard. I could just listen to him for hours, for he has the most soothing, relaxing yet powerful voice I've ever heard. With his latest album he has taken classic love songs from all cultures and has sung them with so much warm and passion that it's almost as if they came from his heart and not someone else's song book. The album opens with the beautiful yet subtle 'Amapola'...(Is it just me or is Italian just the most beautiful language) There are a few Latin American songs, my favorite being track number 2 'Besame Mucho', but his duet with Christina Aguilera is one of the most impressive tracks here (Britney Spears couldn't even dream of singing with such a talented singer...but she has K-Fed) Christina was a prime choice to cut a track with for her sultry PERFECT voice is like silk to his satin...they just harmonize perfectly. His take on the French classic 'Les Feuilles Mortes' is astounding and goes to show that the language is second only to Italian (sorry I have a soft spot for the language of my ancestors). 'Jurame' is a stand out gem here featuring guitar work by Mario Reyes. The whole song is breathtaking. I say if you want to know why Andrea Bocelli is brilliant then you need hear track 12 'Can't Help Falling in Love' for he's not only singing in English but he's singing live and he sounds flawless...so you can see that the hype is not that he's singing in Italian and the language is beautiful itself, but his voice whether singing Italian, French, Spanish or even English is FLAWLESS! And live on top of that, I mean, on that track he sounds CD quality. Both versions of 'Because we Believe', the English but especially the Italian are the biggest highlights here. Amazing album put out by probably the best male vocalist in the world at this point and time. I can't help but smile when listening to this brilliant and BREATHTAKING album, and I promise that you too will be left spellbound.
