Free Music Notes for W?tinaFree Music Review: Excellent, fresh and original, spiritual in parts Hit: 5 StarsWonderful offering of distinct rhythms from the Garifuna culture of Central America. Andy himself participated in more danceable, electric Garifuna music (such as Punta) earlier in his career. However, this offering is more refined, still very rhythmical of course, but more spiritual and carved out of his respect for his culture and roots. A wonderful album.
Free Music Review: rich and intoxicating~ Garifuna music & language Hit: 5 Starsso have you ever heard anything that just sounds right? if not, this music is what you have longed for. the rich rhythms tug at your heart and titillates your senses. i first heard this CD during an interview with Andy Palacio on NPR. i was so moved by the music, and Andy Palacio's passion for his culture and people, that i bought the CD....what a coup! since then, i have played these tracks to countless family and friends. my mom loved the CD so much, that i surprised and took her in 2007 to see Andy Palacio perform at SOB's(Sounds of Brazil)in NYC. it was a great and LIVELY concert-- the audience danced all night! suffice to say, we were deeply saddened to learn of Mr. Palacio's untimely death. such a terrible loss, of a talented and passionate musician. my only hope is that his music and efforts to celebrate and preserve the music and language of the Garifuna people will not be lost. enjoy this music....so long baba, we will miss you. Free Music Review: Golden Hit: 5 StarsJesse Kornbluth got it right. This little known culture and style of music could be near extinction. Yet this CD may not only preserve it but perhaps ignite its resurrection.
I'm currently living in Niger where some of those slaves who were shipwrecked nearly 400 years ago survived and escaped. Their language, music, and culture was partially adopted and preserved. From those roots comes this music which belongs in its own style of world beat. The music from the North West African sub Saharan desert is also little known. And the people who live here have little if any knowledge of their potential relatives living in Belize and the connection between their culture and music.
Garifuna language and music has it all; pulse, lyricism, soul, guitar, and voice! It is really beautiful to hear. Do buy and listen to it. Not only will you become addicted to it, but you will be contributing to the salvation of a dying genre that should not be lost and forgotten. Thank you Alex!
Free Music Review: Worth the hype Hit: 4 StarsThis disc really is deserving of the reverent reviews it's getting. It's a lovely tribute to Belize and a wonderful legacy for Andy Palacio.
Free Music Review: Hopkins Village Hops Hit: 5 StarsThis last (and best) of Andy Palacio's collections of songs brings up the spirit of Paranda. You can hear the surf, and feel the warmth of Hopkins Village. Just makes me want to dance, and to cry, knowing that there will be no more. His passing so suddenly and tragically will, we hope, be given tribute by this being recognized internationally as a true expression of the best. He will be greatly missed.
