Free Music Notes for AngelfishFree Music Review: Sounds like Garbage Hit: 4 Stars
This sounds just like Garbage. Or maybe early Garbage Demos. The music isn't up to the same high standard, but its a pretty good record. Any Garbage fan will love this.
Free Music Review: Precursor to a superstar icon! Hit: 3 Stars
I was already a huge Garbage fan when I got this album for Christmas in 1999, so naturally I was excited to see how Shirley's former band compared to the popular and critically acclaimed band I love today. Lesson learned: Do not expect this to be as good as Garbage. It can't compare. That being said, it's still a really cool, moody rock album, that still showcases Shirley's fantastic smoky vocals. Garbage fans will probably enjoy the primal "Dogs In A Cage", "Suffocate Me"(the song that attracted Butch Vig's attention to Shirley when it aired on MTV), and the wild "Mummy Can't Drive". The album ends with a bang with the appropriately titled "The End". Any Garbage fan should buy this, not only because they will enjoy it but because it is very interesting to hear Shirley at this point, unaware that she was just two years away from becoming a global rock n' roll icon. Shirley's vocal style is what makes this album unique, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
Free Music Review: Shirley is just amazing Hit: 3 Stars
I like this cd, but i dont love it. I was Garbage fan long before I bought this cd, so of course I bought it because of Shirley Manson. She's amazing no matter what she does. This cd has some really great songs like, "Dogs In A Cage", "Suffocate Me", "The End" and "Sun Won't Shine". "Suffocate Me" is somewhat Garbage souding. It's dark and strange, but in a good way. "The End" is all about how great shirley sounds, it's very surprising. She really belts it out for this last song. There are a few songs that i didn't care for, mostly becaus eof the lyrics or that the guiatrs and backround music was just too weak. But if you are a Garbage fan, then I definitly recommend checking this out.
Free Music Review: Only needed for Shirley/Garbage fans Hit: 3 Stars
Angelfish's one album is certainly a servicable early 90's goth-pop-rock album, mainly because of the stunning vocals of soon to be Garbage frontwoman and rock-n-roll icon Shirley Manson. The traces of Angelfish's new wave roots are clearly heard throughout, and certainly The Pretenders and Patti Smith are obvious influences on particular tracks. In the end, it's easy to see that the band was reshuffled from it's previous incarnation (Goodbye Mr. MacKenzie) not only in an attempt to showcase the talent of Manson, but capitalize on a new trend in music. The songs lack a soul and spirit. But they at least provide a vocal blueprint for the type of memorable music that Shirley would go on to make with her fellow members of Garbage.
Free Music Review: It's A'ight Hit: 3 Stars
Much better than I expected. Everything they do here, someone does better, but it was good to hear Manson with a straightforward rock sound. I think after Garbage's first album, you didn't get much of that. The album could serve as a bridge between 80's & 90's music, or at least a drainpipe. There weren't any particual songs which jumped out at me, which in a way kept the album more cohesive than normal. Usually an album has a few standout tracks and it takes on a lopsided Gestalt. I've already played it a few times, so thats always a good start. If they had another album I'd probably buy it too or at least put it in the queue (I have no idea how to spell that word!).
