Free Music Notes for We Don't Need to WhisperFree Music Review: Believe the hype! Hit: 5 Stars
Well it's finally here, the debut album from Tom Delonge's new band Angels and Airwaves (AVA). When the members of Blink 182 informed us over a year ago that they were going on an "indefinite hiatus" we as fans weren't quite sure what to make of it. Those of us who had stuck around with the guys well after the height of their popularity (1999-2001) had been blown away by blink's untitled album, and couldn't wait to see what direction the continued to go in. Unfortunately (and fortunately) we would not find out the answer to that question. However, from the ashes of Blink 182 rises Angels and Airwaves, Tom Delonge's new band of punk rock veterans. A band that promised to change the world one song at a time. Yes many of us were concerned or even rolled our eyes when we heard Tom say that over and over and over. Well, while "We Don't Need to Whisper" may not change the world, it will certainly change Tom's. AVA is undoubtably the greatest musical achievement of Mr. Delonge's decade spanning career. It is at times mind blowing, such as on the opening track Valkyrie Missile, a seven minute lift off before the real trip begins. Other times it will just put a stupid smile on your face that you won't be able to wipe off (see "The Adventure). You may even need sit down and take a deep breath, let it all sink in (A Little's Enough, The War). One thing I'm sure you will be is impressed. AVA combines Tom's infectious Blinkish guitar riffs with a new sound that can only be compared to that of U2. In reality, AVA is an evolved Blink, using the classic elements and building upon them in a way that I certainly never imagined would be possible. Blink 18U2 if you will.
While AVA will always be compared to Blink 182, they certainly shouldn't be. Suprisingly enough, I don't think that would be fair to Blink.

First off let's take the whole hype out of the album... And that fact that every song was leaked a few months back, the reason most of you are disappointed is because you already had the songs and you expected more... more? you have all the songs, you were the ones that would not wait and got the songs and now since you got the CD it is not as good because there isn't anything "new". Enough was said about the hype that Tom and the fans brought towards this CD and I just stopped listening to all the "best album ever" and "New Boxcar".
Now for the CD, which is composed of ten songs by Tom Delounge (Former singer...blahblahblah you already heard it) these songs are perfectly laid out and bring on different emotions and feelings as the album progresses. From the powerful Valkyrie Missile to the beautiful "A little's enough" This CD is a complete package that displays Tom's anti-war spirit and his love for life. I think this is easily the best work that Tom (or even Mark) has ever done so far, I love the stadium rock feeling and the hard rock that is mixed and displayed in the songs, great production value and just amazing lyrics, some can get a tiny but cheesy but then again, how many times can you say the same thing over and over again ( Well, for Good Charlotte... a LOT) Tom put his soul and tears in this album and it does not fail, I have every Blink CD, and Boxcar Racer is still in my CD player... But this is not Blink, and this is not Boxcar this is something new, you can't compare two different types of genre because of a singer, the music is different and the experience is stellar!
I recommend any fan of Blink, Boxcar, U2, Coldplay, and even Bruce Springsteen to buy this CD, I love it and it will be played constantly in my CD player for many months to come.
Free Music Review: A CD Worth Buying Hit: 5 Stars
As a twenty-something male, and an avid music collector, I have been listening to Tom Delonge's music for almost a decade. I am always looking for new music to add to my "life's soundtrack". Music keeps me sane while I commute an hour to work each day and it keeps me connected to my wife who is currently in Iraq. When I first heard this album, I was a bit put off by how different it sounded from Blink or Boxcar Racer. However, after listening to the album almost nonstop for the past few days I can say that it deserves a solid five stars. The sound is refined and mixed well. It really does sound like they spent a million dollars making this. When you compare the earlier leaked versions of these songs to the released version, there is no comparison. Tom's lyrics and the epic sound of this album also leave it open to artistic interpretation. It is an album that can be listened to over and over again, making it a true value. I'm not going to dissect the individual songs because they mean different things to different people. However, I do have to say that in a world of negative music, this is a very uplifting and positive album. Moreover, if you have seen the video for the adventure, it appears that the album touches on the topic of love and war. Yet, it does not preach, thus ruining the listening experience with politics. For me, this album's sound is a mixture of U2, The Cure, and Coldplay with Tom's vocals. Its ambient feel and open lyrics make this a wonderful and touching musical experience. I hope that these songs move you the way they moved me.
Free Music Review: Tom DeLonge Delivers with AVA Hit: 5 Stars
From the initial reports of Angels and Airwaves (AVA), frontman Tom DeLonge hyped the new band beyond belief. He even stated (and I'm paraphrasing) that although blink-182 was great, Angels and Airwaves is what he was really meant to do.
All of the hype paid off. And it wasn't a lie.
I have loved blink-182 for a long time. They have been my favorite, but after two days of being on shelves, AVA is quickly surpassing DeLonge's former group. Every song, every note, everything about this album is brilliant. Everything blends so well together. DeLonge's in top form here, and carrys every song well. David Kennedy, Ryan Sinn and Atom Willard compliment DeLonge very well, and the musicianship between the four is as tight as it was with DeLonge, Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker.
Doubt the naysayers regarding this album. I loved the Box Car Racer CD, but it played through, and I was done for a while. AVA hasn't left my stereo since I picked it up. Inside the house, the car, anything, AVA stays. My only complaint: it's too short. But this is the best ten songs I've heard in a long time.
One last thing. Tom DeLonge did mention that he wants AVA to be the biggest band in the world, that they would change the world, and some are saying that this isn't happening. Well, DeLonge's new band is all about the future....and none of us know what the future hold for Angels and Airwaves. But it looks pretty promising.
Free Music Review: You either get it..... Or you don't. Hit: 5 Stars
First off, AvA is my favorite band, period.
Now... for all of you whining about how this is different than Blink or Boxcar... Duh!! It was meant to be. There is more to life than getting drunk, getting dumped and then writing a 2 minute song about it. Obviously Tom has matured enough to realize that, and formed a band that makes totally different and amazing music that can produce a little bit more than motivation for 13 year old kids trying to get in on the emo scene to slit their wrists. If you're looking for the reincarnate of Blink-182 or want a clone of Green Day, then look somewhere else. Tom has created something very unique with Angels & Airwaves, and odds are some people just aren't going to get it. But that's ok- as for those of you who do, Congratulations.
We Don't Have To Whisper is one of the only cds I own that I am able to listen to completely through without skipping songs. Every song is very strong and holds its own place on the album.
My favorite tracks are: "Valkyrie Missile", "Do It For Me Now", & "The Adventure"
The rest of the songs are equally refreshing. Especially when all you've been exposed to for a while is bad screamo and wannabe punk.
Angels & Airwaves is not just a band, but an experience. Whenever it clicks, you'll understand and will never want to stop listening to this album. I'd recommend getting it ASAP. :)
