Free Music Review: Ani You Rock My World!

I met Ani once, years ago when she played at the Ithaca Theater, in Ithaca, NY. She wasn't so commercially known then. I am honored I saw her live, "local" concerts during the best part of her music career. "Dilate" is hard-edged, in-your-face, and is placed very high in my most favorite CD ranks. My two favorite songs have always been "Dilate" and "Untouchable Face". She was very hard core. A jilted lover? Maybe. I have heard new Ani music, saw a music video, and I am saddened to say, the Ani I once knew and loved has turned a tad commercial. If you are a true Ani DiFranco fan, you must experience the raw, guitar-slamming emotions of "Dilate". This is the true Ani..the music that got her started. And Ani-if you are out there...I will NEVER forget how you closed that concert in Ithaca with a solo rendition of "When Doves Cry". Buy this album. It is truly sensational and worthy of more than 5 stars.Free Music Review: As always, Ani keeps us on our toes

None of Ani's albums are the same, and that's one of the reasons why I love her work so much, she grows and changes and no matter what, her work is always good. This is quite different from her earlier works and is EXTREMELY differnt from her latest one, Revelling/Reckoning. I think Dilate is a good one for non-ani fans to be introduced to her. It's very easy to relate to and has an awesome beat that will keep you dancing!Free Music Review: Ani and me

I've had this album for a few years now - since 97 I think - and until recently it was the only Ani i owned. But if somebody had asked me what artist/group would best described me, Ani would be right there. Though the stories she tells are not the same as mine, the emotion (style?) said me.Went out and bought Revelling/Reckoning recently and was blown away at the evolution - just as I would say I've grown - so has she.
For some reason Dilate was perfect in it's time and place for me. I still listen to it regularly - especially to prevent overplay of the new stuff, "I keep hearing that same damn song everywhere I go". OK so that's from Little Plastic Castles which my wife gave me this X-mas - so shoot me for mixing albums - but that, too, fits in neatly between the latest double set and Dilate.
Just wonder if I can now justify digging deeper into her (our) past, or interpolating into Up Up Up Up Up Up or Swing Set - doubt I could go wrong either way.

I own every single Ani DiFranco CD, and this one is my absolute favorite. She is a lyrical genius, and she is very introspective and funny at the same time. "Untouchable Face" is going to be a classic someday. If you must own only one Ani CD, Dilate should be it, because she has so much to say that so many people can relate to.Free Music Review: Perfect CD to get over a lover

Ani Difranco is one of the most prolific songwriters of this generation. Politically aware, emotionally aware as a person as well as a female. She is teaching young females to be strong through her songs. But being strong in the atypical ways. Embracing all facets of your mental and emotional states. This cd is very evident of this. It is very raw, showing her inner most workings. Baring her soul as love comes through and steam rolls over her. We learn how to heal ourselves, and learn with her that whatever doesn't kill you, DOES make you stronger!
