Free Music Review: More than an Educated Guess...
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm sure plenty of Ani fans will disagree, but I, for one, absolutely hated Educated Guess. I was almost disgusted with how she destroyed the song "Educated Guess" with those horiffic background vocals (not to mention every other song as well!) I was definitely unsure if I would buy another of her albums.

I took a chance, put my faith in her abilities, and pre-ordered Knuckle Down. The streams in my digital library seemed good enough that I would end up liking this album more than EG, at least.

After listening to this album for the past few days, I can definitely conclude that it is one of her best. The first five tracks are flawless (from there its a little hit or miss) and about half of the remaining eight are excellent. There are only a couple of songs that I'm "not feeling" yet.

At any rate, if you had lost faith in Ani after Educated Guess, definitely give her a second chance w/ this album - you won't regret it! :)

If you're new to Ani, I'd suggest a handful of other albums before this one, but definitely make sure to purchase this one at some point!

Free Music Review: what music should sound like
Hit: 5 Stars

I've been an Ani DiFranco fan for sometime now and appreciate all of her music/spoken word. I've never been one to write reviews and/or rant about one particular album by an artist, but Knuckle Down is a different story. I truly think this album is what the culmination of genuine quality and talent sounds like. Knuckle Down has slow lingering tunes like callous, minerva, studying stones, sunday morning, parameters, that resonant through the walls of your soul. While on the other hand it also has slightly more upbeat and sincere tracks like the title track, manhole, modulation, paradigm, and lag time. Ani has grown immensely through the 15+ years she's been making music and in shows in all of her work. Knuckle Down is Ani doing what she does best: telling stories, expressing life as she experiences it, and making beautiful meaningful quality music. This is an album anyone would be proud to own-ani fan or not!

Free Music Review: A great CD
Hit: 5 Stars

I especially love the first three songs on this CD--Knuckle, Studying Stones, and Manhole--I can listen to those over and over and over again.

This is my first Ani Difranco CD, so speaking as a new fan, I really am in love with her lyrics and singing style. Her lyrics are poetic and philosophical, and her voice is truly remarkable. Her singing style ranges from something soft with a gentle vibrato to a staccato, punctuated style that is almost like scat singing in jazz. It's quite wonderful to listen to.

Lots of songs on this CD are excellent, but several are absolutely fantastic, and you will not be able to get them out of your head: Studying Stones, Sunday Morning, and a few others.

Free Music Review: best in 15 years......
Hit: 5 Stars

ANi has been the musical genious of todays era, allways changing from alt country folk, to folk rock to jazz and swing and other musical limits. here on knuckledown she reaches a place that she has never reached before, really i dont know how to place it, but simply just saying the most beautiful album sence Ani Difranco the first album. violins, guitar, electric guitar, bass, medolica, piano, drums and many others are the great selection of tools used on this project. she reflects on her life on the world and on views that are rarly touched on... simply a classic art... a beauty that is ment for this world... and a sence of music that one can trust... one word can sum this up... classic!

Free Music Review: One word...AWESOME!
Hit: 5 Stars

Ani's new album "Knuckle Down" met all my expectations, and then some. After having made what I thought was a weak release with "Educated Guess" Ani came back with her best angle and sound. I know a lot of people sometimes tend to pigeon hold artists and don't allow themselves to broaden their musical landscape by rejecting their experimental work, but in this case, I think the kind of sound on "Knuckle Down" is Ani's strongest, similar to what "Dilate" and "Not A Pretty Girl" sound like, only with an edge of maturity and intellectual prowess and dexterity. I strongly recommend this album for both new and old DiFranco fans.
