Free Music Notes for Revelling/ReckoningFree Music Review: Righteous Music yet again Hit: 5 Stars
I've been listening to Ani's music for a long time now and I'm still in love with this incredible woman with the ferocious plastic nails and passionate lyrics. In short , I love all of her.I embrace Anilogy!! I couldn't wait to get a hold of this double CD ( which is actually one CD , but written and recorded with two separate moods and feelings...) , as alot of us anticipated Ani's new CD to be more of a returning to her past... , I am delighted that the CD has both her old and new vibes .There are some songs which has just ANi and Ani playing and doing and singing. Then there are some songs which has the whole brass band thrown in , Maceo parker , and the works. Then there's also the Ani and spoken poetry bit which was so prominent in her earlier works . I think this album is the most personal one yet for Ani , and I can't wait to delve into this album in depth .Each song ,each word , each chord , each tone.....is beautiful.
Free Music Review: one of the best Hit: 5 Stars
This is my first Ani Difranco record, i kinda just jumped on the bandwagon. I saw her in concert last night and she is so awesome!! One of the best concerts ive ever been to. there really is no one quite like her, and there will never be another like her. Revelling is more upbeat and has the full band. My favorite song off of this is "Marrow". its the 4th song she performed and is a beautiful and well crafted song. Reckoning is just her and her guitar, and the chemistry is indescribable (or is it UNdiscribable? i dont know) the best song on this one is the title track. This is the perfect album for the new ani fan as myself. since then i bought two of her other records, "Little plastic Castle" and "To the teeth". this one is the best of the three in my opinion. maybe the other ones have to grow on me. i dont care how you get this cd, just GET IT.
Free Music Review: The Serinity of Ani Hit: 5 Stars
Where some artists crank out tired music at a blistering pace Ani Difranco cranks out meaningful songs. Where some artists stay in one place Ani Difranco continues to mature. Her next level of greatness is Reveling/Reckoning. A double disc that are as different as night day. Disc one starts off by working you over in the quirky beats of Ain't That The Way. It continues to work it from every angle of music you can imagine. Folk, Blues, and even a bit of funk, it is all there. The beautiful mix of witty words and catchy tunes make you want to start all over again. Then you move onto the second disc, like a breath of serenity, this is a person walk in the forest. Her words are deep and sensitive, her music is soft and entrancing. The subjects are spoken of rawly but with such passion. Some artist just put out music, Ani injects her every listener with knowledge.
Free Music Review: Her best yet Hit: 5 Stars
i am a brand new ani difranco fan after listening to "not a pretty girl" and "out of range." i don't understand how i've been a music lover and have never listened to her before last summer. she is an incredible songwriter. i picked up her latest two cds which got away from her folk roots a bit, but "revelling/reckoning" takes you back there and combines her newest style of funk and rock and rolls it up into a genuinely ingenious double record. ex-ani fans, get to the stores and see that she's back with a vengeance. new ani fans, you've got to grab this one. her lyrics are tighter, the songs are well constructed, and the production is incredible. the horn sections add so much to the songs...i can't say enough good stuff about it. i never write reviews on websites, but i felt i had to to praise "reckoning/revelling."
Free Music Review: Ani at her best Hit: 5 Stars
After the somewhat disappointing "Up Up Up" and her incredibly dissappointing "To the Teeth," I initially had no real intentions of buying this album. However, when I saw her play live last year, she performed some of the tracks off this album ("Tamboritza Lingua" and "Marrow") and I fell in love. The "Revelling" CD shows the depth of Ani's musical talent better than any of her other albums (she wrote the music for every instrument). Sure, she can strum that guitar like nobodys business, but "Revelling" shows thats not all she can do. And not since 1996's "Dilate" has Ani been unflinchingly honest as she is on "Reckoning". Songs like "School Night" and "Grey" display an emotional depth I was starting to think she had abandoned. For all the disallusioned Ani fans out there, this album is worth the $... for "Reckoning" alone.
