Free Music Review: Ani lifts you up up up up up up...

Regardless of what Rolling Stone may say, this album displays Ani's talent very nicely. The lyrics are one of a kind, yet I can see where some people may not like the music. It is very instrumental and it has quite a different feel than other Ani albums. In fact, this album is probably her most expiramental to date. One can, however, still find traces of Ani's punk-folk background here. Songs like "'tis of thee" and "Angry Anymore" sound like older Ani, or in other words, 'pre-Dilate.' [just a note: Also, for those of you perturbed by the image of a woman whose armpits haven't been shaved - AVOID the insert]. "Come Away From It" is an 8-minute+ track that features a clamer, more tranquil Ani singing from her heart. However, comtains a drum machine, which might bother those who have not yet been accustomed to a dash of electronica. It is completely moving nonetheless. "Jukebox," the grammy-nominated song last year, is great. "Angel Food" features a cheez organ and some great drumming. COMPLETELY expiramental stuff on this one. "Know Now Then" features a space phone that totally rocks. "Hat Shaped Hat," the 12:55 tune sounds almost George Clinton-esque and Ani really funks it up. The drum machine is also present here. For all of those willing to hear a different side of Ani, check this one out. It may take some getting used to - but it the end, it will engulf you.
