Free Music Notes for Annie (1977 Original Broadway Cast)Free Music Review: Brings back great memories Hit: 5 Stars
I owned this version on LP and I am struck by how well the music has aged. I loved this musical at the time (and the movie to a lesser degree)and playing this cd brought back all the memories of listening to that old LP. It just has a lot of great music, and even if some of it is a bit corny, it is still inspirational. I don't think the movie soundtrack or the more recent television movie can hold a candle to this version. The singing is just better and McArdle as Annie is a triumph. "It's a hard knock life" and "Little girls" are still excellent, as is "N.Y.C." The remastering has definitely helped the sound and the bonus tracks are at least interesting to hear for the dialogue between composer and lyricist. If you love broadway shows you really cannot be without this disc.
Free Music Review: Better than you think Hit: 5 Stars
Many dismiss "Annie" as a perky kiddie show. Though they are not entirely wrong, this CD shows that the musical really has an excellent score. Besides "Tomorrow" and "Hard Knock Life," there are great songs like "Something was Missing," "Easy Street" and "NYC," that are largely forgotten for one reason or another. This is an excellent addition of the CD that includes a full synopsis and story of how the show came to be. The CD also comes with some interesting bonus tracks and explanations of why the songs were cut. This CD is a must-have for anyone who is even remotly interested in musical theater.
Free Music Review: A wonderful recording of the perfect Broadway cartoon. Hit: 5 Stars
The most famous song from Annie is perhaps "Tomorrow," and perhaps for good reason, and if you haven't heard Andrea McCardle sing it, you haven't really heard the song. But there are plenty of other good reasons to own this disc: All of the songs are great (including, or perhaps especially, the ones that were not in the film version), the performers are top-notch, and the disc sounds every bit as much fun as the show itself was. While the bonus material on the remastered version is fine, it's mostly unnecessary, as the rest of the show is that good. A wonderful disc, don't miss out on this, whether you're a fan of musicals or not.
Free Music Review: Definitive ANNIE Recording Hit: 5 Stars
Simply put, this is the DEFINITIVE recording of this musical. Dorothy Loudon will always be the best Ms. Hannigan (sorry Carol!), Andrea McArdle will always be the best Annie, and Reid Shelton will always be the best and brassiest Daddy Warbucks. Also, the wonderful songs that were cut from the 1982 film are all here and an absolute delight: "We'd Like to Thank You, Herbert Hoover," "NYC," "Getting a New Deal For Christmas," etc. Don't hesitate to buy this delightful album to a musical that is far more political than smaltzy than most people would think.
Free Music Review: A magical musical collection Hit: 5 Stars
I just recently played the title role of Annie at my high school. It was a wonderful experience, and I will remember it forever. I bought the cast recording of "Annie" just days after I was cast as Annie Bennett. (That is her real last name.) The cd helped me learn all of the music and stay motivated about the show. There are songs on the soundtrack that apply to people of all walks of life. "NYC" is one of my favorites: what a great tribute to one of the greatest cities in the world!
