Free Music Notes for Annie Get Your Gun (1999 Broadway Revival Cast)Free Music Review: I SAY ITS WONDERFUL!! Hit: 5 Stars
This cd is (in my opinion) the best recording of "Annie Get Your Gun" yet. Bernadette Peters fits the part fairly well and has a beautiful voice. Tom Wopat also sings VERY VERY VERY well. He and Bernadette obviously have chemistry that is noticable in their songs together. This cd has many factors that make it better than the other recordings of this show: an Annie Oakley that is almost as good as Ethel Merman, several songs that were cut from the other recordings, superior sound quality, updated orchestrations, a great supporting cast. The cast really sounds like they had fun making this cd. All i could ask for is another cd of the show with Reba (i've heard that she is the best Annie Oakley EVER). Buy and enjoy!!
Free Music Review: "They Say It's Wonderful"...and It Is! Hit: 5 Stars
Saw this show in NYC a couple of weeks ago, and was thorougly enchanted. The sets were unique, the costumes were great, and the cast was fabulous. Bernadette Peters is the definition of spunk and charm, and who knew Tom Wopat had such a great set of pipes? The excitement of the show translates well to this CD; I didn't love the Tommy and Winnie subplot all that much, but the songs they sing are great. All in all, I truly enjoyed this CD. If you've seen the show, it brings it all back -- especially the could-have-heard-a-pin-drop moment at the end of "Moonshine Lullaby" before the audience burst into applause -- but even if you haven't, it's still great fun and very much worth buying.
Free Music Review: Bernadette, the crown jewel of Broadway! Hit: 5 Stars
I was fortunate to attend the musical, Sept 4th, 1999 on a recent trip to New York City ... Bernadette Peters shines in the role ... she brings a new updated Annie Oakley to the stage ... also worth mentioning is her excellent comedic timing ... her voice was right on, crisp and clear ... several times during the show you could hear a pin drop especially during her haunting rendition of Moonshine Lullaby ...Tom Wopat was a surprizing romantic lead for Bernadette's Annie and delivered an excellent performance as well but in my opinion Bernadette carries the show ... I would recommend anyone visiting NYC that they try and purchase tickets for this show ... and if not buy the CD ... and enjoy!
Free Music Review: NOTHING BUT THE BEST FROM BERNADETTE!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I FIND BERNADETTE PETERS ONE OF THE BEST BROADWAY ENTERTAINERS OF ALL TIME. TO SEE AND HEAR HER AS ANNIE OAKLEY IS ESPECIALLY AN ENJOYABLE TREAT TO ME. BERNADETTE SHOWS THAT SOMETHING SPECIAL THAT ETHEL MERMAN JUST DIDN'T HAVE, OR COULD'NT GET FOR THAT MATTER. TOM WOPAT DISPLAY A DIFFERENT SIDE, AND SHEDS HIS FAMILIAR DUKES OF HAZZARD IMAGE,AND ALONG WITH PETERS DOES A WONDERFUL JOB. I HAVEN'T SEEN THE BROADWAY PRODUCTION, HOWEVER, AS I LISTEN TO THE MUSIC, I CAN IMAGINE ALL THE FACIAL EXPRESSIONS AND REACTIONS DONE BY THE CAST.CERTAINALLY, I GIVE BOTH THUMBS UP TO BERNADETTE PETERS AND TOM WOPAT FOR RE-CREATING SUCH A WONDERFUL SHOW,BRINGING IT TO LIFE, AND ALLOWING ME TO ENJOY IT.
Free Music Review: Reinventing "Annie," Peters is Brilliant Hit: 5 Stars
If, like I did, you grew up listening to the Ethel Merman recording of this incredible show, track one of this CD will enthrall you. By the time you reach the end of this superb recording of the 1999 Broadway Revival, the only question in your mind will be "Ethel Merman? Who's that?" Bernadette Peters took a role forever associated with Merman, and didn't simply recreate it, she stole it. Reclaiming Annie Oakley for Broadway and the world, future generations will remember this show with Ms. Peters' name attatched. Perhaps Merman can still be remembered for a little show called "Gypsy," but Annie will be Peters' territory from the moment you hear her sing.
