Free Music Review: Almost complete

Lots of times in these reviews people seem to talk more about what ISN'T on the CD than what IS on it. But unfortunately I have to do that too, just for a moment, lol. That's the problem with "greatest hits" packages - you can't please everyone. Others have already mentioned the omission of Into the West, which is astonishing since it earned her an Oscar for crying outloud. I was also surprised to see that Waiting in Vain was absent as well, since I remember hearing that on the radio quite a lot back in the mid 90's and would surely consider that a hit most people would know.
But with that said, the album is otherwise quite good. I really like the new shot of Annie on the cover, and there's a neat little collage in the booklet, as well as lyrics. Of course any Annie fan would have most of these songs already, but it's nice having them all in one spot, remastered, with two new great tracks to boot. Pattern of My Life is an introspective ballad, and the inspirational Shining Light picks up the tempo just a bit to close the disc on a positive note. Songs of Mass Destruction and Bare, her last two albums, brilliant as they were, seemed to have been born out of a dark place, and in this small sampling of new material Annie seems to be looking on the bright side of life.
