The albums most up-tempo moment comes on the following track "Cornbread, Fish & Collard Greens". The funky beat is very good and Anthony sings smoothly over it, never belting out which would not have worked on this song. The next track is another premiere moment on the album, "Since I Seen't You". This is another track that does not have him using his voice to too great an extent, he keeps it a bit more simple. The song is simply about this woman he loved since he first saw her. The albums greatest moment is the following song, "Charlene". This is the most soulful song on the album and he uses his voice perfectly on this track. Starting off soft, and as the song goes on you feel how he feels more since his voice gets more and more into it. What I really like about some of his love songs is how he uses womens names. The song is very well written and the mellow sounds in the beat mesh with the lyrics very nicely. Another outstanding track is "Im a Mess" which unlike the others, he starts off singing with high energy. This is another track about lost love. He really allows you to feel what he feeling. His pain is evident and you become intrigued to keep listening. The albums first single is the title track and an excellent one. This song is a story and you need to listen to every word he says to get what he is saying. He sings in a very good story telling voice and the piano on the track is fantastic. Another very soulful track. Anthony uses the real names again on "Lucille" which is another very good track. Maybe the softest and suttlest sounding, but its message may be the most powerful. His ex-lover left him and went into an abusive relationship, where he is now watching her knowing she made the wrong decision in leaving him. He does not want to laugh at her however, he wants to explain how he will always be there and be a better lover then the other guy. Or atleast thats what I got out of this song. Maybe some interpretation is left up to whoever the listener is. The song includes soft drums which are very nicely placed.

"Comin From Where I'm From" is an absolutely excellent album and easily one of the best neo-soul albums ever created. Anthony Hamilton is now very important to the neo-soul movement and will be for years to come. I truly feel this man is a true artist and he has a lot of potential to keep on creating great albums. This album defintely deserves the 5 star rating and I urge neo-soul and music fans in general to check it out.
