Free Music Notes for We've Come for You AllFree Music Review: Forget St. Anger, THIS Is The Metal Album To Get Hit: 5 StarsIt's about time Anthrax released a new album, especially after the disappointing Stomp 442 and good but hard to find Volume 8. Fortunately, We've Come For You All is easilly their best album to come out of the John Bush-era, and one of the best albums (rock or metal) of 2003.Once the opener Contact is finished and Who Doesn't Die? crashes in, you know you're in for a real treat. Excellent guitar work, great vocals, and some pretty nasty drumming highlight this song. Other great tracks include the almost country-influenced Strap It On, beautiful and even romantic Safe Home, Refuse To Be Denied, and Any Place But Here. My favorite, however, is Cadillac Rock Box with its excellent drumming and naturally cool groove (something you don't see everyday in metal). One of the best things about Anthrax is that unlike with a lot of other long-running metal bands (*Cough* Slayer *Cough*), their new material doesn't sound at all forced or intended to please people. On this album there's no rapping, no fancy production, no forcedly "evil" lyrics. Just a classic metal band playing soon-to-be-classic metal. In brief, We've Come For You All is a great metal record. It's just too bad the album didn't sell like hotcakes (according to Soundscan it hasn't even hit the 50,000 mark yet). Instead, everybody flocked to buy St. Anger...
Free Music Review: Why is this not Platinum? Because nobody knows anything Hit: 5 StarsWhen I heard Stomp 442 in 1995, the album helped me kick smoking. I was very happy when I heard Anthrax was coming out with this new album. Stomp 442 is in my opinion their greatest ablum of their 20 year career. Charlie unleashes some amazing drumming once again on this record, especially on Nobody Knows Anything. The rest of the album is sharp and worlds more interesting than any other heavy metal on the market, including that horrendous piece of crap Metallica put out. In the end record sales could not possibly be a judge of a bands overall talent and care about making good music. That point reflected painfully in the eyes of Scott and Charlie when I recently saw Anthrax play at Canes in San Diego.
Free Music Review: Way Overrated Hit: 2 StarsI have never been a big fan of Bush-era Anthrax, & this album, for me, is one of Anthrax's worst.First, the basics. Musically, the album is better than average. Scott Ian still shreds and Charlie Benante keeps a steady beat, both men with pinpoint accuracy. John Bush: Go back to Armored Saint. I don't know who was responsible for the lyrics, but, simply put, they are terrible. They are some of the weakest I've heard in a long time. Maybe Anthrax was too busy trying to say (repeatedly, ad nauseum,) "There is no God". What happened to the lyrics comparable to that of "State of Euphoria" & "Time"? If you take a look at the liner notes, it appears that the music wasn't even recorded all at once in the same studio. "Safe Home" sounds suspiciously like a grab at a pop metal single. Was this the intended hook by which Anthrax was willing to snare unsuspecting buyers? And what's with the silly, 80's-pseudo-satanic pentagram pun on the "A" of the word Anthrax (hello, King Diamond...)? That was cool in 1982 when I was still trying to tick my parents off. And why feature Roger Daltrey & Dimebag Darrell on the songs if the listener can't hear either of them? On a better note, at least this isn't more nu-metal. Anthrax has, for better or worse, put together some good thrash metal music reminiscent of 1985 - 1991. These are also some great songs to hear live, I'm sure. The cover art is pretty interesting, too. Also, the enhanced CD has some really good live footage of a show in Europe. If you're a serious Anthrax fan, buy the album. If you're anything else, don't.
Free Music Review: Anthrax is terrible...a terrible thing to WASTE!!!!! Hit: 5 StarsWhat can I say, having loved Joey-era albums, when I first heard John's voice on "Sound of White Noise", I was very turned off by it. After hearing this album, however, and hearing the first few double bass smashes of "What Doesn't Die", I found myself enjoying the titilating quality of his voice. The songs are so powerful and heavy, yet catchy. "Safe Home" makes me tear up. "Nobody Knows Anything" will make you think Charlie is the best drummer ever, I'd say he must be some sort of Octopus or Squid or maybe any sort of multi-limbed animal to play drums like that. However, towards the end of the CD, the overall "heavy bad-ass" them sort of fades away, and it becomes more of a rock'n'roll type dealy, which isn't bad, but dissappointed me. But the songs are still great. All of them.
Free Music Review: They've come for us all Hit: 5 StarsThis album is very kick ass...I'm a huge fan of MetallicA and I like Anthrax very much...I think AMONG THE LIVING is their best album, but in the John Bush era this is their best work. My favourite songs are SAFE HOME, WHAT DOESN'T DIE, BLACK DAHLIA...I like so much the entire record...Great comeback for this great group...
