Tom Jobim is one of the greatest composers of the 20th century. His compositions have a freshess and originality that are unmatched. He also played excellent piano and guitar. However, he had a wretched voice, almost always "slightly out of tune" (maybe that was what "Desifinado" was referring to!). Too bad. This cd compilation by Jobim has it all.Bosso nova,beautiful music(easy listening elevator music)and even some jazz.Jobim plays the piano on all 17 and sings on some tracks.Claus Ogerman does the lush background music as well as Eumir Deodato.There are 2 versions of the girl from impenema on this cd.The one on track 1 is done vocally by Astrud Gilberto and Jobim.The one on track 11 is done instrumentally.Jobim actually had 4 versions of this song but only 2 are included hear.The lush tracks are really beautiful and make it sound like you are listening to an beautiful music station in fact Jobim was played a lot on beautiful music stations in the 60's,70's and 80's.Hear is a more thural info on tracks.1)The Girl From Impenema-Vocals by Jobim and Astrud Gilberto.They actually played this version by Jobim on Vegas Vacation when Chevy Chase and Beveraly Deangelo was on the plane going to Las Vegas.

The late Antonio Carlos Jobim was certainly one the most innovative musicians of our time. He gave us something else to live by and for. I suggest to everyone who is feeling somewhat troubled, to put this CD on and listen to "Aguas de marco"(Waters of March). The playfulness displayed by Jobim and Elis Regina is bound to make you smile. ALso the classic Girl from Ipanema with that beautiful voice of his.... Uf! something else! The fact that a lot of people have already said that these track are ideal as background music should tell you something. I agree with them because the middle tracks sound a lot like muzak. If that is what you are looking for, this CD is for you. I bought this CD about a month ago and I've played it exactly once. I'm thinking about giving it a second chance and listening to it on my commute to work. However, I'm afraid I might fall asleep and drive off a cliff. JOBIM struck once again the strings in my heart with this album. Listen to his natural melodic voice in "Looks Like December" and his orquestration in "Passarim". Clearly one can acknowledge his brilliance in writing great ballads and music. ANTHONY CARLOS JOBIM is talented and will always be an inspiration for musicians all over the world. Great musicians will forever be in our life and memory.
