Free Music Notes for Apocalyptica Plays Metallica By Four Cellos

Free Music Review: Simply Amazing
Hit: 5 Stars

Being a string player myself (although I play violin rather than cello) I have much respect for these students. When listening to the songs you can rarely tell that these are in fact cellos playing the music. It ranges all from the heavy hardcore impact of Metallica, to an almost classical sort of music. If you don't like the heavy classical music, this shouldn't turn you away and would open anyone's eyes to the horizons and capabilities of stringed instruments and hopefully deter stereotypes. This is an excellent buy for anyone with a like for Metallica, orchestral music, and diverse music lovers.

Free Music Review: A must have!

I bought this CD on the strength of their second effort "Inquisition Symphony" (A brilliant masterpiece btw). I'm sure I'd have liked this better had I gone the other way round. This is a more bare bones, acoustic set. Simply produced and pretty much note for note faithful to the original tunes, where the second CD is much richer and more developed and includes some original pieces. Nevertheless this is a wonderful breath of fresh air. A brilliant concept, very well done. I am rather surprised at how well Metallica lends itself to "classical" interpretation.

Free Music Review: The soundtrack to my life
Hit: 5 Stars

This is easily my all-time favorite album. Being a rather moody person anyway, the combination of the cello (I love cellos) and Metallica is simply divine. I have to admit, though, that it isn't for everyone apparently; I play it for other people and get mixed reactions, to put it mildly. If I had to choose between every other CD I own and this one (along with Apocalyptica's second album Inquisition Symphony), I'd choose this one. It's very aggressive and full of spirit, but at the same time very somber and almost mournful. I for one give it my highest recommendation.

Free Music Review: I want to play this music!
Hit: 5 Stars

I have been playing the cello for four years now. I have tried to find written sheet music for Apocalyptica's version of Metallica's songs but there is none in my city. I can imagine how hard it was to transfer all the notes written for the base, lead guitars, vocals & percussion parts into cello music. I'd like to know more about Apocalyptica and how they got started, where they are going and how I can get copies of the sheet music they have so brilliantly put together? This music has inspired me. Now I see a whole other side to the cello.

Free Music Review: Objects in this album are cooler than they appear.

Who knew cellos could rock?

Who knew there was this much depth to Metallica's music?

Not me, prior to listening to Apocalyptica. This album gives a boost to both the cellists and the band. Special kudos to the Finns who have arranged eight great songs with a precise and admiring hand. Master of Puppets, Unforgiven, and Welcome Home (Sanitarium) sound at times like they were made for a string quartet. Oddly, the most recognizable song, Enter Sandman, is probably the weakest of the lot.
