Free Music Notes for Favourite Worst NightmareFree Music Review: An Excellent Follow-up to One of the Best Rock Albums of the '00s Hit: 5 Stars
If you liked Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, don't hesitate with this one. Favourite Worst Nightmare is bursting with as much energy as its predecessor, demonstrating how these Sheffield boys still have a lot left in 'em. While more cynical in tone and considerably more hard-hitting than their pub-thumping, night-on-the-town debut, there's no shortage of their quirky humor and unrelenting punk rock enthusiasm. No complaints here, I highly recommend this one!
Best Tracks:
"Brianstorm"
"Teddy Picker"
"D Is For Dangerous"
"Fluorescent Adolescent"
"Do Me a Favour"
"This House is a Circus"
"Old Yellow Bricks"
"505"
Free Music Review: Incredibly satisfying Hit: 5 Stars
I did not give Arctic Monkeys a honest chance at the beginning, simply because of the big hype that came along with them. But after some time it was impossible to resist.
This album is the most satisfying album i've heard since Radioheads Ok Computer. It is so detailed, well planned and tight. The music is simple and honest, but still very advanced. No effects or multiple guitars laid on, which probably is the reason why they sound so awesome live. The songs really grow on you and sticks with you for a very long time. Songs like Balaclava, D is for Dangerous, Old yellow bricks and do me a favour may take a while to enjoy altrhough, while Brianstorm, Flourscent Adolscent and Teddy Picker hits you straight away. Buy it-and support this magnificent band!
Free Music Review: Great record, great follow-up Hit: 5 Stars
Keeping it short:
This album definitely has a bit darker feel to it, and as someone else already commented, the production is noticeably a little cleaner and polished...but I don't feel like it detracts from their overall sound, as it still has that characteristic raw edge. I suppose this sort of thing is really up to you to decide.
The songwriting here, as with the last record, is fantastic. I honestly expected a drop off from "Whatever People.." largely because that album was so great. I'm glad to report there is no fall off here, and while I wouldn't necessarily place "Favourite Worst Nightmare" ahead of last year's debut, it undeniably picks up where that album left off.
Free Music Review: Excellent Album Hit: 5 Stars
I was a bit anxious about the new album from Arctic Monkeys, because most bands have problems to clear the bar of a great début. The first single, Fluorescent Adolescent, was not really what I expected from the band. I bought the record anyway, and am glad I did. FA as a single may not work, but its absolutely ok within the context of the whole album. Favourite Worst Nightmare rocks. That was the first thing I noticed. The songs are more mature, and are much harder than the ones on the first record. One could say that Arctic Monkeys just push on from where the first album ended. There is nothing that can stop these guys. If you liked the first one, you are going to love this one!
Free Music Review: Arctic Monkeys don't dare chill... Hit: 5 Stars
I was surprised to hear a new AM song on the radio a few weeks ago, but hardly in a bad way. Their debut album was one of the best I had head in years, and still makes its way through regular rotation on my iPod and home system.
The second album, is again one of the best I have heard. The song writing is, I hate to use the cliche, but wise beyond their years. With each listen through, I hear a new line that makes me dig them that much more.
If you haven't listened to the Arctic Monkeys, do yourself a great favor and pick them up. They really are one of the best bands to come from the UK since Oasis. Well done guys!
