Free Music Notes for Voice Lessons To Go Volume 1: Vocalize and BreathFree Music Review: My favorite warm-up CD Hit: 5 Stars
I've wanted to sing for as long as I can remember, but never could afford voice lessons. I've recently invested in about 5 different vocal CDs to see if I could help myself learn a bit. Out of all the ones I purchased, this is by far my favorite and most used CD. I found the exercises to be simple, and Ariella explains everything before you attempt it. Some of the "visualizations" she gave before the exercises helped me a great deal. I especially liked the breathing exercises, very helpful.
Some vocal CDs just go through the exercise once and then expect you to be able to do it, but sometimes you like to know WHY the particular exercise is useful for vocal development. Don't worry, she doesn't go overboard with explaining though. The most important thing to keep in mind is to stay in your personal comfort zone. Everyone is at different levels of vocal development, so you must never strain to reach a note that you don't feel comfortable hitting. Ariella covers this in the intro. She cannot tell if you are straining or pushing, so you have to be the judge of what your body is telling you. Another thing to keep in mind is you don't have to try to be powerful when doing these exercises! I know that Ariella sounds loud over the piano when she is going through the exercises but I find it's the best to stay at a speaking level or softer. Just make sure you are comfortable, and don't try to push because you think you have to do these loudly. I find it counter-productive to try to do that. Do what works for you.
I recommend this CD for both people who are starting out and for those who already know how to sing but are just looking for a warm-up CD or a refresher. Of course nothing compares to a vocal coach that can assess your voice and give you specialized vocal lessons, and there is no magic CD that cures all your vocal problems, but this is definitely worth buying if you want to better your voice, no matter what level you're at.
Free Music Review: Amazing Breathing Exercises! Helpful Vocal Exercises Hit: 5 Stars
I am a beginner, but my voice has already improved from practicing using this CD along as reading and practicing with other books such as: Singing for Dummies, Singing Coach Unlimited, free videos at expert village, etc.
If you're the kind of learner who learns from books, and DVD's and CD's etc. then this is a very good choice. One to add to your arsenal of learning how to sing. (I am looking around for a good vocal coach, and when I actually find one who can teach me and practice me with something other than what I've already learned then I'll work with one.)
Oh, and I'm checking out Roger Burnley's EZ Vocal Method, we'll see how that works. Good luck and best with your singing!
***I just had to add this: after using the breathing exercises in this CD one time (I'll be using it everyday for sure!) well, the range of my voice dramatically improved. The squeeky sound that comes when going from chest voice (lower notes) to head voice (higher notes) have disappeared. Wow, amazing, I'm so very grateful I can now reach the high notes easily, comfortably, effortlessly (like she said, if there's any discomfort, then you're doing it wrong). Thanks sooo much!
BTW, you can get this CD as an mp3 download here at Amazon, no waiting, no postage, easy at half the price too.
Free Music Review: Perfect for me! Hit: 5 Stars
I am happier than I can say with this program. This is the first thing I have bought on CD to work with my voice and the thing I love BEST is that it is not talky---you start doing the exercises and she keeps you moving thorugh them FAST. I LOVE THAT. Afterall, this is a CD you will work with a thousand times and you don't want to hear little stories over and over. There's none of that---you work on your voice steadily.
The only thing I think she should consider is telling people what to do next. I bought the mp3 download which was awesome---one click and I had it! But when the execises end, there is no direction about what should come next. I know she has other CD's and I read here in the reviews that you can use them together. At first, I thought, I guess I better use #1 for a month or so before I move on. Apparently that is not true, but I'm still not clear.
I noticed someone gave her a 3 for talking over the exercises. I thought that was totally unfair; I will stop and wait for her to come in and clarify when I am confused. About half way thorugh an exercise she will join in and I wait for those join ins to hear her and make sure I am doing it the way she wants. I really think that part is very, very valuable!!! Valerie, if you read this, don't stop doing that.
I use this in my car on the way to and from the gym and I have started doing more throughout the day---I am really excited to find a program like this. It greatly exceeded my expectations!
Free Music Review: Warmup Hit: 5 Stars
I bought this MP3 because I'm a lecturer and want to work on flexibility of the range of my voice I use when speaking. I already have a Voice and Diction from college that I practice from weekly, but it falls short with thia.
I like to use the first half of this MP3 for warming up in the morning, especially on a day I lecture. One comment was that some of the workouts went too fast. I fix this by using Windows Media Player play speed settings to slow it down to 80 percent. There is some distortion with the audio but not enough to affect practice.
I have a problem with having a denasal voice, so really like the Hmm and Brr practice. Both get the stuff cold sound out of my voice.
I really dislike the Hweet practice and make a special playlist to skip it or turn the speed way, way down to 50 percent.
For the breathing section, I at first thought the lessons quite strange because almost every other instruction starts with diaphragm breathing. But I found as I go through these practices, I breath automatically from that area. Would recommend a private place to practice these exercises because others listening will think you are having some sort of attack or going all the way into the deep end.
I would like to have a second series of exercises with less talking and more practicing, like there is in the other series of these products. Also it is great to fit the first part in half an hour, but a little slower please.
Free Music Review: "If you're doin it right...it's gotta kill! Hit: 5 Stars
I've been singing somewhat over the years in church, but I've never taken lessons. We got a new pastor and his wife (song director) asked me to join the men's Ensemble group. Well, being only an average singer (at best) I decided to get some voice instructions. I saw "voice lessons to go" on disc and decided to give it a try. Well, I'm glad I did cause this CD has helped me quite a lot in short order. I hear things like "you are sounding better every week... what are you doing"? The other day someone said: "you are such an asset to the group". I thank Ariella for that! She is an excellent teacher. She has such a clear voice and such a good way of instruction. It's really fun going through the lessons. She made me laugh at times with a few of her comments. Like the one when doing a short scale exercise (HA, HA, HA, - Hi, Hi, Hi, - Ho, Ho, Ho), ...Ariella said: "if you're doin it right it's gotta kill"! Another comment in the same exercise... "it sounds like you're laughing"! She's fun to listen to and the lessons are fun to go through, but if you're like me, the most important thing is to improve your singing. Get her disc and you won't be sorry.
