Free Music Review: Really good, but not a knockout

I've listened to CD1 (on the beach) several times. Love it. CD2 which is suppose to be the hi energy CD seems to lack. I like it, but there are too many loops, the songs are almost overmixed. I gave A state of Trance 2007 5 stars, I don't think this one is "quite" the caliber. In fact, I find CD 2 kind of sloppy.Free Music Review: Its good. but not that good.

Well i have heard this albulm 3 times. & quite frankly its not that good ( compared to last years )
I would recomend it to trance fans that love armin, But if you like driving & jaming to something with a little twist this is not for you. I think i've heard better ASOT episodes online.
Free Music Review: A bit disappointing compared to the rest of the series

State of Trance 08, the 5th in the series. I've listened to (and own) this one as well as '05, '06, '07 & '09 and I must say this one is actually ranked #5 out of those. I'm not quite sure what it is, but it just doesn't seem to have a consistent feel like the others in the series have. The On the Beach mix doesn't really have much of anything going for it except "Punta Del Este" which is just plain an incredible song. (seriously it gets 13 out of 5 stars...It's that good) And it just doesn't have a feel like you are on the beach. It's more depressing than relaxing. :(
Luckily the second disc is much better but still doesn't quite recover from Disc 1 if you listen to them straight through. This one has a few highlights like "Lost", "No More Alone", "Back To You" & "Time To Rest" (which has some cool background guitars by Eller Van Buuren.). The feel of this disc is much more consistent and a nice groover.
I would give Disc 1 a 2/5 and Disc 2 a 4/5 averaging out to a 3/5. It's a decent album, but if you're looking to get your first ASOT album I would personally recommend '06, '07 or '09
Free Music Review: Not the Armin I Know...

Yea Yea hes the #1 DJ in the world. He's amazing live and typically his ASOT mixes are top notch. The track selection for 2008 is DECENT. Its the mixing that i was totally not impressed with. You can tell that this mix was totally ABLETON'd out, every mix is so abrupt. This is clearly not a live mix as it has been in 05,06. I still think ASOT 2006 is by far his best compilation and mix of the series.Free Music Review: Armin, what has happened to you????

As somebody said, the picture of him on the front of the cd illustrates how he must be feeling, down and out. Ever since AVB ASOT 2006 he has deeply dissapointed me, (although asot 2007 was decent) I have never seen someone go from good to bad so fast!!. But, IMAGINE< ASOT 2008 and 2009. are complete failures. Those who disagree just don't understand trance, or are deaf like TH. I bought them out of respect for him because ASOT 2004 and ASOT 2006 were awesome!! But this is CRAP! and I hate it for him and his audience because he has lost the edge!!
