While this album is definitely good on its own, it falls flat in comparison to "Son, I Loved You At Your Darkest." Along with one of their vocalists, ACB has seemingly lost some of the intensity and energy that their original fanbase was based upon.
Tracks like "Empire," "The Hoard," and "This Is It, This Is It" keep the chaotic guitars and high-energy tempo from "Son." However, others (especially the last three and "Contact") add minutes of needless, soft, slow music to the disc, more reminiscent of a jam-session. ACB keep their passionate vocals and their meaningful (often spiritual) lyrics, but musically this album doesn't have the unique sound that won me over with "Son."

In August 2002, As Cities Burn was forged from the remnants of several local south Louisiana bands. The band quickly became known and recognized on the Baton Rouge scene for their passionate and energetic live show. Word about the band spread rapidly while As Cities Burn began to play shows throughout all of Louisiana, gaining an extremely loyal following.
