Free Music Review: The Return of Asia
Hit: 5 Stars

Everyone is comparing it to other CDs and other lineups. I have ben an Asia fan for 25 years. This is Asia. Steve Howe's guitar work is exemplary. John Wetton's vocals are right on the spot. I will admit
Carl Palmer appears to take a back seat as to the drumming. Geoff Downes keyboards surround the CD. Keyboards have always played an integral role in Asia. I noticed that Wetton
wrote the majority of the songs. This is why his influence is felt more than the other
three. All and all it is an atypical Asia CD. If you enjoy Asia you will enjoy this CD.
It is more mellow than previous CDs, however, just as enjoyable. Forget the
majority of the other reviews and simply listen to this new collection of the vintage Asia sound and production. The song No Way Back is one of the many standouts on the CD.
Welcome back Asia.

Free Music Review: Completely Exceeded My Expectations
Hit: 5 Stars

Wetton's recent brush with death and bypass surgery have obviously given him something meaningful to write about, and the emotion shines through; he's never sounded better. Howe is playing with much more fire than on the past few Yes tours, and really came up with some beautiful compositions on this album. Downes sounds great as always, and while Palmer's playing is top-notch, I miss the more punchy production sounds his drums (and Wetton's Zon bass) had on their 80's albums.

Just great music, folks. My fave track is Extraordinary Life, which helped get my wife and I through some tough times with our daughter's health over the past couple of weeks. Looking for some catchy, uplifting, secular music? This is the disc for you. A perfect blend of pop and prog. GREAT JOB Can't wait to see you in Cleveland!!

Free Music Review: The original Asia is back and better than ever!
Hit: 5 Stars

It had been a long time since I had listened to any of my Asia CDs. In the last few weeks, I have seen the original members live on their 2008 North American tour and I am extremely impressed with their Phoenix release.

It is easy to say that almost all Asia fans (of the original band) will enjoy this album. The surprising part is that this may be their best album. This talented group has created something very new while still being the Asia we knew and loved. It is great to have them back and a collection of songs that capture the 20+ years since their last collective album.

I recommend you try to get to see the band live - they put on a great show with lots of energy. Also, there are many surprises regarding songs they play from previous groups (e.g., Buggles, Yes, ELP, etc.)

Free Music Review: Melodic and Exceptionally Powerful
Hit: 5 Stars

I've been listening to ASIA and offshoots of ASIA since the original Heat of the Moment. I've been a fan of the old and the new ASIA, but certainly have my favorite albums. In all honesty, Phoenix is my very favorite album by ASIA. Yes, the musicians are getting older. But the music of Phoenix has a special, melodic quality that exceeds any of their previous works in my opinion. It is emotional and powerful. Most of the songs are ballads, or at least more mellow than in the past. You can hear the roots of predecessor bands - especially Steve Howe who resembles the Steve Howe from YES. But as far as a reunion album goes by a bunch of old greats, this album is exceptional. If you are looking for emotionally charged music that pricks the soul and elevates the conscience, this is the album.

Free Music Review: One of The Best Ever
Hit: 5 Stars

Granted this type music with soaring vocals and guitars and words with meaning probably don't appeal to people addicted to the mediocrity of music today. The CD has some of the best cuts I have ever heard anywhere (and I have over 9000 on my iPod) some of the best cannot be sampled in 30 seconds due to the nature of their music many times starting out very slow and low key with a major break in tone and beat. I was never a huge Asia fan but it is sad that this outstanding effort could not have come at the hight of their popularity and given more airplay. I don't know how many way I can say what an achievement this is, you need to spend 99 cents and get Never Again just to give you an idea. You will want the rest of the album after that if you have any musical taste at all.
