If you ever are lucky enough to go to Austin, TX, you're going to hear a lot of two acts: Willie Nelson and Ray Benson/Asleep at the Wheel. Since a lot of the Austin people do a lot of cross-pollinating, the two acts getting together was pretty much a done deal. They just had to wait until Willie was with a label that'd approve.
This is all old tried and true songs, "Won't you ride in my little red wagon," "Corrinna, Corrinna", "South." They've got Willie and as an added bonus, a horn section.
It's impossible to listen to this CD without tapping your feet and finding the smile you've been looking for. Well done effort.

Free Music Review: A Match Made in Western Swing Heaven

Any new release by Asleep At the Wheel is a cause for celebration. After a solo CD by Ray Benson, it's great to hear the old band back together. Their newest teams them with Willie Nelson, who seems to be drinking from the same fountain of youth as Clint Eastwood. While I can't say Willie & the Wheel breaks any new ground, it's a pleasure to listen to again and again. This CD's takes on "Little Red Wagon" and "Come On Over to My House" are the best of a strong set. Worth getting for fans of either Willie or the Wheel.Free Music Review: Quintessential Western Swing

This album is absolutely the best western swing album in a very long time. The combination of Willie Nelson and Asleep at the Wheel is an incredible combination.
The musicianship of Asleep at the Wheel is, without a doubt, some of the best in the world. What a talented group of people Ray Benson has assembled.
I have yet to tire of listening to this great bit of Americana.

Saw Asleep at the Wheel for the first time at Austin City Limit Music Festival 2009. Wish I had heard of these guys years ago! I am not a huge 'country music' fan, but these guys are fun to watch and listen to - classic country swing with a hip and happenin' vibe. Great musicians all around and the addition of Wille to the Wheel makes for a even better listen. You won't be disappointed.Free Music Review: The CD is great but a DVD would be awesome!
