I've heard many other Astrud recordings and she doesn't seem quite as assured here as she does on those. In fact, she almost fades into the background at times, but still, she demands to be heard. So why did I give it 5 stars? I really don't know. I think it's because of that unvarnished, haunting, floating, otherworldly voice of hers. I'm mesmerized by it, imperfections and all. Listening to this cd, I felt like there was a beautiful little songbird singing outside my window.
