Free Music Notes for Headshots: Se7enFree Music Review: Like Shots To The Head Hit: 5 Stars
I'm from Houston, TX so of course I was pretty late on the Headshots but I finally got ahold of the complete Headshots series from 1994 to 1998, so I understood the history and legend behind the Minneapolis Headshots collective. Headshots had some of the illest and most original rhymes & beats I've ever heard & believe me I've heard a LOT of different styles. They easily rivaled Freestyle Fellowship, Wu Tang & Hieroglyphics, it's just a shame that more than half the emcees they started with are no longer producing consistent material.
Slug has always been a captivating MC to me because of how personal he gets. I can recall one opener he spit on Headshots Vol. 6: Industrial Warfare, "Once upon a time there was a hip hop jam, I arrived a little late, cuz that's how I am. I was like damn, there's a cool amount of heads in this room, so I took my spot, stood & watched, so I could consume" - It's like movie narration, then immediately following that he rips the beat a new a**hole.
Headshots: Se7en came after Industrial Warfare and it's all Slug from start to finish. This was actually the last album I heard Slug with this particular style since after this he relaxed his delivery & switched to a lighter tone. But Slug covers it all on this one, and in fine detail I might add. Showing that there's no lying in hip hop when true feelings are spoken, but don't think for a second Slug's some soft emo kid cuz he'll tear any rapper today to shreds just as quick as that assumption strikes you and this album really proves that.
Headshots: Se7en is better than Overcast to me cause it showcases a little more variety in the track topics. I say buy this & search the net for the rest of the Headshots series, you'll be blown away at the sound of some real lyricists.

Free Music Review: Good album, better additional disc. Hit: 5 Stars
This is an excellent album. Atmosphere that was pre-Overcast is my favorite kind! However the best part of the CD isn't the CD itself, but the bonus disc that features the Headsho7s' Greatest Hits. I'm not even going to review the main disc, it's pretty good, however I think that should be the bonus disc and the second disc should be the main attraction. The second disc contains tracks from The Dynospectrum, Slug, Sess, Beyond, and a few other under the rock RhymeSayers. Every track on the CD is great, which is pretty much hit or miss considering there's only ten. Some of the highlights of the bonus disc are "7th St. Entry" a song about someone who leaves messages in the 7th St. Entry bathroom that are duragatory to Slug and his abilities. The next great track is the best on the CD: "Multiples Reprise [Remix]" this CD blows the other Multiple tracks you may have heard out of the water. The story is all about the many characters of Uptown Minneapolis, and their expolits. It goes into the tales of over ten people and how they all intertwine, and the downfall of each. Track 06 "Funny Colors In My Mushroom Trails" is about Slug and Sess's experiences with Mushrooms. It is hauntingly accurate and will make any shroom user think back and wonder what the eff they were doing. "F**k The Bulls**t" is another awesome track, about people who complain about life when they could very easily fix things themselves with suicide (EXTREME!). The next two tracks are also very good, but like I said no song compares to "Multiples Reprise [Remix]."
Without a doubt pick up the set. If you are a fan of Atmosphere's Overcast! you will definetly appreciate the first disc. And if you are a fan of hip-hop in general you will love the second disc. Thank you much.
Free Music Review: My favorite Atmosphere release Hit: 5 Stars
I've had this one on cassette for years, and it's great to see it finally released on cd. I've always thought this was Slug's best work, though according to his liner notes he doesn't seem to agree. I got into Rhymesayers by listening to old headhsots mixtapes and the Overcast album. I was lucky enough to have friends from the twin cities who turned me onto Rhymesayers early on. For a while there it was up there with my favorite undergroung hip hop. As other reviewers have noted this tape sparks the transition between Slug as a battle rhymer and his more personal, intropsective music. What the music magazines would later dub emo-hop (barf). This tape was just straight up, underground, four track magnificence. Any doubt that Slug has skills on the mic can be put to rest by this tape. I'm sorry to say that I really don't care for the last Atmosphere album and even God Loves Ugly was a stretch for me. People will no doubt point out that artists have to grow, ect. That's fine, but I have my tastes, and this album represents everything that I love about Atmopshere. Definitley a must have for a fan of their earlier work and any fan of underground hip hop. Overcast is classic, but this one outshines Overcast in my opinion. More raw, but more slamming. If you have any reservations about Atmosphere, this tape will likely convert you. In fact, anyone who likes underground hip hop should buy this CD.
Free Music Review: How Many HeadShots Does It Take To Get To Se7en?? Hit: 5 Stars
After the release of Se7en's Travels in 2003, The collective duo of Slug and Ant decided to re-release their most popular mixtape to date onto CD format. the 7th volume of the Headshots series is quite possibly their greatest mixtape to date from the well known series. Unfortunately, from what I understand the other Headshots mixtapes can only be obtained in the Midwest region. However, this was my introduction to Atmosphere after hearing this album over a friend's house, then purchasing my own copy, I was instantly hooked on the strategic flow of Slug and on point production of Ant. Atmosphere was my reason for breaking away from the hold that mainstream hip hop had on me(Thank God!). Ever since my purchase in early February 2005, I have many plenty of investments in other underground hip hop, mainly from the Rhymesayers label, among others. Atmosphere fans will agree that out of 5 studio releases, Headshots ranks near the top with tracks like "The Abusing Of The Rib", "Tracksmart" featuring Eyedea and my personal favorite "The Jackpot". Slug's on time and heartfelt delivery will not disappoint fans of underground hip hop.
