Free Music Notes for Out of ExileFree Music Review: Audioslave have created their own sound, and they are damn good at playing it. Hit: 5 StarsWell, I'd almost be wasting your time on sharing some history about this band, as it seems that about every other review has done just that. Let me begin by saying that I do not enjoy Audioslave's self-titled album as much as "Out of Exile". I feel that they were still trying to develop their own unique sound on that record, with sides of both former bands showing more frequently and heavily throughout different phases of the album. Also, this time around, the production is better, the guitar solos are more unique and interesting, and the lyrics make a bit more sense. The music we have on "Out of Exile" is all its own. This entire CD is great, however, some of the songs, to me, stand out much more than others. Favorites are below :
1. Your Time Has Come - Another great thing about this CD is that the bass is very strong, so when the guitar and bass play an identical riff, it's much more powerful and exciting, as is the case here.
2. Out Of Exile - The title track, if there is one, should always be on of the CD's best. Cornell and company stepped up to the plate and homered with this one. The chorus is almost too catchy!
5. Drown Me Slowly - This song starts out very quiet and simple, and hits you in the face with the first verse. I'd say this is arguably Cornell's best vocal performance on the disc.
9. Yesterday To Tomorrow - Although the vibe of this song may seem weird, I look at that as a positive, it makes me think. "We'll squeeze the blood out of life, and say goodnight to the silver of old. Even when wrong we're right, far beyond the world of diamonds and gold."
11. #1 Zero - I like the guitar sliding effect at the beginning. Another wonderful vocal performance by Cornell. Also, one of the better guitar solos on the album graces us on this track.
If the group's up-coming album, "Revelations," is nearly as good as this one, I will be looking at all Audioslave albums in the future, and that should be a lot too, because this group shows much promise. Take that, critics who said this side project wouldn't last past a year. Thank you for your time.
Free Music Review: Refreshing material Hit: 5 StarsThis album is fantastic as it stands on its own. Musicians are artists, and as such must expand upon and move into different areas to develop creatively. If you want growth you must expect change. If you are the type of person that wants to package and label everything into neat organized boxes then perhaps you won't care for this album because you were expecting it to be exactly the same as the last one or like some hybrid. Some may say that this album isn't as strong as the first and if you're that type then your missing out on some fantastic music and lyrics. Listen to this with fresh ears and not as if it has to fit some preconceived notion of what you think Audio Slave should be.
Free Music Review: Just can't beat them good 'ole days! Hit: 3 StarsAfter hearing Audioslave's first album, and knowing where the roots of each band member had originated, I can say that the band has made a fair evolution with the new album. However, I don't think its fair to say that the album is better than the first, at all. It does have some good riffs, and the lyrics are still just as profound, but their sound seems to have become more "radio proud," if you will. In truth, if you really like the band (or even the songs they play on the radio from "Out of Exile") I would go ahead and buy the album, but I wouldn't expect the greatness that the first album produced. I guess one could say that it just wasn't as "fresh".
Free Music Review: The gears of RATM and Soundgarden mesh perfectly on this sophomore outing! Hit: 5 StarsAudioslave surprised the bloody Hell out of me. I figured, as many did, that they would only last through one album and then fade into obscurity as other "supergroups" tend to.(Oh well, Velvet Revolver kind of sucked anyway) Well they proved us all wrong. Their first album was very strong, although kind of spotty in places, and "Out of Exile" seems to pick up the slack that "Audioslave" left behind. The album has a great sound, and really brings out the best in each of the musicians. Like fine wine, Audioslave seems to get better with age! Can't wait for "Revelations"!
Free Music Review: Please go back to your own bands... Hit: 2 Stars While listening to this CD, I can't help but think how much better the musicianship of Soundgarden (Kim Thayill, Matt Cameron) is when compared to Audioslave's. This is not a knock on Tom Morello and the others, it's just that what they did in RATM was groundbreaking and interesting, and their music perfectly fit with the firey, political poetry of Zack De La Rocha. It would seem as if they were made for each other. Sorrily, they don't have that same kind of chemistry with Chris Cornell... and vice versa. Cornell is much more accomplished, musically, for the band of RATM to successfully stay with on record. In all, they sound lost, and a little amateur. The music is boring, simple and uninteresting, the production too clean and polished. I guess that means that it's a best-seller.
It's sad that RATM could have been in the same class as The Clash, as being another "only band that matters", but chose to walk away from that legacy. The gods know that music needs more bands like RATM, but fortunately, that gap is now quickly being filled by another great band, System of A Down. Sadly to say, that I will still miss RATM.
Soundgarden, ah!,What can you not say about Soundgarden! Let's just say they might end up as being one of the best bands of all-time,(well... at least in my book...), and leave it at that. Which brings me to my modest proposal... both RATM and Soundgarden put aside their differences and reform, write-off Audioslave as an "experimentation" period and leave it to rot in the $1 bin at a local used music store, and save modern music from it's sorry, weak, corporatized, unimaginitive state that we find it to be in the new millenium. My god! Even Punk sucks now! Save us!
