You can't compare her to anyone before her because she is truly original. She does what the Opera singer is not allowed to do, which is express in gush loads, and she does what the Broadway or Pop singer can't do which is sing effortlessly, without technical restriction. No ugly, nasal honky, sounds here! For those who gave her a low rating because of the "inaccessible" tunes, my suggestion to you is to crank up the sophistication level of your listening. Oversimplified commercial music is death to the future of a growing art :]

In my mind, Miss McDonald is the most gifted singer of our time, if not perhaps, the most gifted singer of all time. On her stunning debut album she pays tribute to brilliant budding composers Jason Robert Brown and Adam Guettel, among others. This is one album you'll not tire of. I first stumbled upon Audra McDonald when I was listening to the hit musical "Ragtime". I automatically fell in love with this woman. Her voice conveyed so much to me in just one note. Naturally, when her album came out, I had to go buy it. I was not going to pass up on a wonderful opportunity. I would have to say this album is one of my favorites right now. Listening to the harmonic voices on the cd just enraptures me. I love this album, and I think that you should run out right now and buy.
