Free Music Notes for Way Back to ParadiseFree Music Review: A Risk Well Taken; AMAZING Hit: 5 Stars
It would've been so easy for a woman with such a spectacular voice to record an album of broadway favourites, and if she had, I'm sure these ratings would've been more consistent. But Ms. McDonald took a risk by recording unfamiliar songs, and she performs them marvelously. Personal favourites include "Stars and Moon," and "Way Back to Paradise." If you are expecting the usual 'broadway baby' CD, your simple mind doesn't deserve this masterpiece from an amazing vocalist.
Free Music Review: Simply stunning Hit: 5 Stars
Audra McDonald owns one of the most glorious voices of our age -- or any age. And she showcases it beautifully with the compositions of young composers whose music in her hands is seamless, thoroughly accessible and glorious. A great voice here in service to music that is daring, refreshing, highly textured and miles away from the formulaic pap that passes for most songwriting these days. I'm entranced by her voice, her control, her sense of life that comes through every note.
Free Music Review: a star is born Hit: 5 Stars
Audra McDonald, three-time Tony winner, triumphs once again with her glorious debut solo album, "Way Back To Paradise". I received it for Christmas and it has yet to leave my CD player. Audra's voice is simply stunning. She truly shines on "Tom", "Mistress of the Senator", and my all-time favorite "Stars and the Moon". An incredible CD and highly recommended for anyone who appreciates amazing vocal talent.
Free Music Review: I love this album Hit: 5 Stars
I remember when Ms.McDonald won her first Tony award. Little did I know what a talent she has. In a bold and striking move, her first album is comprised of songs by little-known composers. Doing so lets us hear the next generation of Broadway composers, and lets Ms.McDonald interpret songs few of us have heard. She reminds me of Streisand....powerful voice that is original and stunning.
Free Music Review: Great! Hit: 5 Stars
Ever since seeing Audra perform "Ragtime" in Toronto, I have been under her spell. The title track is stunning (and a better orchestration than that currently being performed at Lincoln Center). I was a bit unhappy with many of the song choices on my first listen, but the whole CD has grown on me. It has certainly broadened my musical theatre horizons...
