Free Music Notes for Avenged SevenfoldFree Music Review: I was worried.... Hit: 5 Stars
A7X has had a distinct and unmissable style from the moment they came out in 2002 or something like that. They are all such amazing musicians and the fact that they were named Best Band of 2006 by MTV (they came out in 2002 you ****ing tools) has not hindered their style at all. Many people like to be cool and bash them since they're so popular with the mainstream, but its for that very reason that I don't watch TV or listen to the radio. I was worried about this album and its validity as a real Avenged Sevenfold album when I heard the single Critical Acclaim (MEH to that song, its just not them trying. Fortunately the rest of the album is nothing comparable to this). No, they're not as hard as they used to be, a blown vocal chord will do that to a singer, but their music has not toned down at all and unless you are deaf the pure ROCK of this album is apparent. To haters, I ask simply, how do your intestines look? Pull your heads out of your arses and realize that just because a band is on MTV does not mean they have "sold out" (what does that term even mean, honestly), and listen un-biased to these guys as they rock out for yet another awesome album. Their style has changed considerably, its called artistic growth, and it is undeniably another classic from a truly great band. If you heard this band on MTV, its not too late for you. Buy Waking the Fallen and 7th Trumpet, you may yet be saved
But what is my opinon worth anyway, I'm simply someone un-cool enough to listen to the music instead of the reviews and popular anti-MTV opinion (or pro-MTV).
Free Music Review: A Different Kind of Awesome! Hit: 5 Stars
If it's one thing this cd made apparent to me is that A7X has range which is a good thing. I must have listen to this cd more than 2 dozen times and every time i keep hearing things that i hadn't heard from the previous listen. I know a lot of people are bashing these guy these days, but that's to be expected when a band tries something new. It just proves that not only do they have range, but they have the ballz to go where no other metal/hard rock acts would even dare to step. Though the entire album was awesome i can't help but think of 'A Little Piece of Heaven's' tim burton style song structure and excellent(dark) story that compliments it. This song to me is by far the most out-landish on the cd, but some how the boys pull it off and with style. 'Dear God' is yet another surprise and proves that even bad boys have a heart. Now i admit i wasn't totally crazy about this one the first go around, but when it picks up somewhere half through with the guitar solos, it again proves just how far the band is willing to go to try something new. M. Shadows shows his maturity as well by demonstrating just how far his vocals have developed since his surgery, and even since Sounding of the Seventh Trumpet. He gives his best vocal performance to date. Overall, A7X lets critics and fans know they're still here and are going to be here for a long time to come.
Free Music Review: Much more than expected Hit: 5 Stars
Let me begin by saying that a7x was my favorite band when I heard Waking the Fallen, and I've been with them since 2003.
With that said, I will say that I was not overly wild about City of Evil. It was good, but I will definitely say that their self-titled performance is better.
I had become nervous about this album when a7x began projects with Korn and Good Charlotte, but it pleasantly surprised me with a ballsy adventurous ride.
Shadows' vocals are a LOT better on this album than the previous one. He found his appropriate range, and the addition of the Rev's backing vocals on select tracks is a brilliant one.
Before you dismiss this album, give it at least 3 listens. The first listen through, I didn't like it much. The songs sounded dreadfully similar, and not too impressive to begin with. The more listens I took, though, the more I enjoyed it. The best song is easily A Little Piece of Heaven.
Just a note - don't be fooled by the first teaser video they released for the album. There is no screaming on this album, which was sort of inferred by a number of people when the first few seconds released from this album was Shadows screaming his head off in the beginning of Critical Acclaim. Despite this, it is definitely a great album and worth your time and money.
Free Music Review: Avenged Sevenfold Hit: 5 Stars
Ok. Thing with this album is, in order to like this album, you have to be a fan of AVENGED SEVENFOLD, or a new listener. Not particularly a fan of Waking the Fallen, or City of Evil, or...eh, Warmness and Sounding something or other. This album is NOT like the others, but no one should be surprised, because thats exactly what the band said before it came out.
This album is awesome. There are songs that will make you raise an eyebrow(if you're one of those people who can) but as you really listen to them, you FEEL it. Gunslinger, for example, is mindblowing to me, but when it started I was thinking...'what the..?'. A Little Piece of Heaven, is the craziest, and longest. If you watch the MVI, The Rev wrote it, and he and Shadows went crazy singing it, so you can only imagine. Brompton Cocktail, could be my favorite, or Scream, or Gunslinger, which has the deepest lyrics, I think. Which is another good thing to this CD. The lyrics.
All in all, if you're one of those people expecting another City of Evil, Waking the Fallen, or Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, you wont get it. This still has the Avenged Sevenfold feel, just with a different sound. So try it. I never spend my sad little amounts of money on music that isnt top notch.
Free Music Review: Is everyone deaf or just ignorant? Hit: 5 Stars
A true A7X fan knows this band is the revolution. This album is innovative, experimental, and musically incredible. Who wants to hear the same stuff over 4 albums? This album encompasses the rawness of waking the fallen, the musicianship of city of evil, and surpasses that with a new sound that any REAL music fan can appreciate. Full orchestras, choir singing, beautiful acoustic work, and all out brutal metal and rock. Are you kidding me? This album has everything. People who say they have "sold out" or say "go back to screamo" are totally ignorant." Im completely surprised that within all their touring and heavy partying they could put out such a meaningful album. I can listen to this album over and over and get something new out of it everytime. Every little guitar lick, drum fill, and lyric has been meticulously worked into this album making it easily a contender for album of the year. If you are openminded and can truly appreciate an amazing eclectic album, this album is for you. If you are a "scene" kid with tight jeans, black eye liner, long black hair and cant comprehend and appreciate anything beyond metalcore, move on - you dont deserve to own this album.
