Free Music Notes for City of EvilFree Music Review: yes, yes, u dont like it, but i do Hit: 5 Stars
i totally understand why some hardcore fans, emo, screemo, and other ones are pissed at this band, but damn do i love it. Ive only heard one of there older songs , Unholy Confessions, which may be why i dont know how good they could be. The fact that there is a lack of screaming dosent alter my opinion at all. now i love heavy stuff, death, what not, you get my point, but hell i love this band, they just sound good to me. im not some 14 year old skaterfag who thinks he has to rebel against the world, and does so by listening to "un-healthy" music, lol, i listen to marilyn manson, dimmu borgir, A7X, stuff liek that because i like it. now to get into the cd. There are some beautifull works in here, instrumental, and lyrical. most of it is fast paced, slows, halts, then picks up again, and yes thats been used god knows how many times. his voice is kinda cheesy in more than a little bit of places, but it is usually good, and u can sense where he wants to scream like crazy but dosent. i love music like this personally. now to make this review longer im going to describe, and rate the best songs song, my opinion, naturally!
M.I.A - 8:45 - i dont care what anyone says, i love this song, it starts out slow with the lead singers kick arse vocals, then picks up after a while.
Strength of the world - 9:14 - kind of like MIA starts out slow, but with just instruments, the beginning i personally dont get a real kick out of, but after that i love it.
i breifly describded my two fav songs, if theres any mispelled words, bad grammar, punctuation, blame my english teacher, and my lack of caring ;)
Free Music Review: Welcome to the new and improved Avenged Sevenfold Hit: 5 Stars
This album blew me away!! I have both previous albums but I never really liked them. I'm not in to the screamo scene. Heres how it goes down
Beast and the Harlot- Cool intro, beautiful drumming, Even though this is probably the worst song on the album doesn't mean it's not good.
Burn It Down- Great song, I think theyr'e making a video for this its either this or Bat Country, im not sure good transitions, I like how from the beginning its all heavy and then you hear the melodic solos and back to heavy
Blinded in Chains- Begginning sounds a bit like Burn it Down nothing special here
Bat Country- This was the little sample song on the a7x website. Very catchy chorus and i think its becoming a single.
Trashed and Scattered- EXCELLENT INTRO one of my favorites
Seize the Day- Acoustic, calm soft song. very good
Sidewinder- Once Again AMAZING INTRO!!
The Wicked End- cool song, another favorite
Strentgh of the World- either this or the next song is my favorite, western intro, very creative
Betrayed- one of my favorites dedicated to Dimebag Darrel of Pantera!
M.I.A.-another favorite some parts sounds like Maiden's Hallowed Be Thy Name
Favorite Songs- Burn It Down, Bat Country, The Wicked End, Strength of the World, Betrayed, M.I.A.
ATTENTION- Old a7x fans do not get this album there is not one scream at all! anyone new to a7x or who likes stuff like Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Pantera this is pretty good...I CANT STOP LISTNING TO THIS ALBUM
Free Music Review: Perfect for G'n'R fans Hit: 5 Stars
If you're still vainly awaiting the release of "Chinese Democracy", this album may help ease the pain. Avenged Sevenfold borrows from a number of great bands--Metallica, Iron Maiden, Faith No More, and System of a Down come to mind--but the dominant sound is that of "Use Your Illusion"-era Guns 'n' Roses. Great melodies, inventive lyrics, and absolutely fantastic guitar work -- instrumentally Avenged Sevenfold is one of the best bands I've ever heard. The only weakness is the vocals; the group sounds SO G'n'R that I found myself mentally rerecording the songs with Axl's inimitable yowl drowning out the comparatively lackluster M. Shadows. (Shadows really grew on me after a while though--he's not at all bad; he's just not Axl.)
Every track on this album is excellent, but of particular interest to Guns n Roses fans are "Trashed and Scattered", "Sidewinder", "Strength of the World", "Betrayed" and of course "Bat Country." Avenged Sevenfold have a lot of attitude -- they're a real metal band, no whiny over-enunciating Linkin Park bullcrap.
G'n'R lovers, do yourselves a favor and buy this CD now. When just a little patience and a big bland Velvet Revolver don't cut it, "City of Evil" will rescue you from the wait. "Sweet child, we miss you," Shadows sings at one point in a lyric perhaps inadvertantly expressing the dejection of legions of fans. Miss him we may, but finally there's an imitator worth listening to. Avenged Sevenfold isn't Guns 'n' Roses, but they do a damn good job of coming close. Plus, I need something to listen to until I get Axl's new album for my 90th birthday.
Free Music Review: Different Yet Brilliant Hit: 5 Stars
It is obvious that A7X have changed their style of music in this album, which seems has disappointed quite a few people. Saying that I was disappointed at first, but soon came to love the album just as much as Waking the Fallen.
Beast and the Harlot: Energetic opening of the album. Does drag on a bit long though. 8/10
Burn it Down: Excellent song! One of the best off the album. Love the opening guitar riff. 9/10
Blinded In Chains: Another song with a great opening guitar riff and a powerful chorus. 9/10
Bat Country: Probably my favourite song on the album. Awesome solo! :D 10/10
Trashed and Scattered: Another energetic and powerful song. 9/10
Seize the Day: This song really breaks up the album well. Softer yet musically brilliant. 10/10
Sidewinder: The only song I don't listen to often. Will probably grow on me as I listen to it more. 7/10
The Wicked End: A song that's growing on me, doesn't grab me like the others though. 7/10
Strength of the World: Starts off with a heroic feel, leading to a great combination of heavy and soft music. Awesome bridge/solo to the song. 10/10
Betrayed: Excellent vocals once you get used to them, very catchy chorus. 9/10
M.I.A: Great finish to the album. 9/10
Overall City of Evil is a great piece of music that really shouldn't be judged based on A7X's previous material, though it still has the energy, harmonising vocals and power that A7X always had. A7X succeeded in finding a very original sound with City of Evil.
Free Music Review: underrated. Hit: 5 Stars
yeah, I know all the wannabe metalheads are gonna want to rip me a new one for calling this underrated, but all they can do is leave an immature comment on my review, so I'll just let em. Scream at your computer if you want. I'm sure it'll cry for you.
Most of the negative comments on this band/album are quite amusing, actually. Especially since most of the negative reviewers just say "DEY'RE NOT METAL" and repeat that over and over again. They probably have only heard Bat Country. And I don't see why fans of the first 2 albums don't like this. It's really not that different. So M. Shadows isn't screaming. So they're on mtv. So they won some "best new artist" award even though they're not a new artist. SO FREAKING WHAT? 2 of those "reasons" have absolutely nothing to do with the music, and as for M. Shadows not screaming, don't you think that was getting annoying? I sure thought it was. I'm not a big fan of Sounding the Seventh Trumpet mainly because M. Shadows is just screaming through alot of the songs. Hardly any melodic singing, and that's what I enjoy about him. If you guys don't like bands that don't scream, that's fine, but you don't have to be a gigantic jerk and take a dump on everyone else's good time.
As for my opinion on the album, I personally love it. I can listen to it because M. Shadows' annoying screaming is not present in this album. And the guitars may not be quite as heavy as before; boo hoo. People are always screaming out "A7X AREN'T METAL" but can never really prove their claims.
A truly great but underrated album by a truly great but underrated band
