Free Music Review: Simply Amazing
Hit: 5 Stars

Words cannot describe the talent that these guys have. Every song has at least a guitar solo. A few of the first songs have amazing beginings on the drums. I don't play guitar or anything but I can tell when I just drool during the solos that these guys got talent that make groups like System of A Down look like Sh**. And thats coming from a System of A Down fan. Any way on to the songs:

1. Beast and The Harlot: 8/10 Great guitar thru the whole song.

2. Burn it Down: 9/10 One of The Amazing Drum Intros by The Rev.

3. Blinded in Chains: 9/10 Almost the same as "Burn It Down"

4. Bat Country: 100/10 Just amazing, the first metal song that my dad can sit down and listen to with me, and he's 51! One of the 3 best songs on the cd.

5. Trashed and Scattered: 9/10 Back to #'s 2 & 3

6. Seize the Day: 100/10 Yet again another song that my dad can listen to on this cd. Sounds lots like "November Rain" and "I won't see you tonite pt. 1"

7. Sidewinder: 10/10 AMAZING Duel acoustic guitars

8. The Wicked End: 9/10 Nothing Super Special about it

9. Strength of the World: 9/10 By far the longest song on the disc at nearly 10 minutes and it doesnt feel repetitive.

10. Betrayed: 10/10 All I can say is wow

11. M.I.A.: 10000/10 Hands down the best song on the cd. It's also got the best guitar solo on the entire disc and the drumming better than most the songs too. The Ending accoustic guitar is pretty awesome.

This Cd is the first cd in a long LONG LONG time that I can keep in my cd player for 3 weeks and still not skip around on it. The last groups that did that for me were Led Zepelin, Pink Floyd, and Metalica. Another plus is that every song is at least 5 minutes long and there are at least 3 that are over 7 minutes long and all of them never ever get boring. The only downside to this Amazing cd is that there are times that M. Shadows voice gets realy nasaly and sound extreamly weird.(IE: End of M.I.A.)The Guitarists are easily good enough to hang with Slash from Guns N Roses. A must for any Guns N Roses fan, musician, or any one who just likes good music.

Free Music Review: Haven't Heard It Yet, Just Wanna Say Something About 'Em...
Hit: 5 Stars

Well, I just got the August 2005 issue of Revolver, and I must say, Avenged Sevenfold are the kind of band we need more of nowadays. I'm a fan of all types of metal, from melodic death and black to hardcore and metalcore, though metalcore recently has been trying my patience. It was cool when it came out, but now it's nothing but a trend, just like emo is now, and rap-metal was before. Avenged Sevenfold's album "Waking the Fallen" was a masterpiece in my book, and besides the fact the band chose to wear eyeliner, black nail polish and girl pants in the liner notes of the book and their pubicity photos, I considered the album to be more old-school metal (but with some screaming vocals) than any contemporary style of music. So I'm proud that the band is willing to make an effort to stick out from the countless clones in this oh-so-popular metalcore genre. Bands like Atreyu and Unearth, while both are no doubt good and talented, will be forgotten when the next trend rolls around, but Avenged Sevenfold will either stay around or be remembered, because they tried to do something different. I tip my hat to M. Shadows for his choice to not scream anymore, and sing like a real man. Now, about this Revolver issue I was talking about. Avenged Sevenfold, if you ask me, are the saviors of modern metal. While wussy emocore and Christian hardcore bands like the crappy Underoath and Norma Jean find pleasure in slapping X's on their hands to get attenion, Avenged Sevenfold revel in booze and groupies. Now that's a real rock band! And they don't give a f*ck if they piss off any of their old "scene" fans who will hate their new album just because it's not "core" enough without the screaming...A7X says "F*CK YOU!" and I back them up all the way. I mean, I can't stand this straight edge stuff. If you're in a band, why wouldn't you wanna party your ass of every night? A7X get it. So many other new bands don't. I honestly laugh my ass off every time I see a long black dyed hair kid in girl's pants wearing a shirt that says "Hugs Not Drugs" at local hardcore shows. Listen to the music you love, not the music that's it. Avenged Sevenfold will be remembered, and I myself cannot wait to get this record.

Whether or not it's true that M. Shadows really did rip his vocal chords; he said in an interview it wouldn't affect his screams at all, he said he would sing more on this album because A7X was tired of being lumped together with all of the less gifted Screamo/Hardcore kids when they (A7X) are obviously 1,000 times more talented. This album proves that; although his voice takes a little getting used to, this album has some of the best instrumentals on any album of 2005; they really stepped up their game to show what they're all about. "City of Evil" is a tribute to the fact that screaming didn't make this band what it was, but rather it was the unit as a whole. It took a few spins for me to realize that because a dedicated A7X fan is immediately thrown off when a song starts off aggressive as all he1l, but M. Shadows just sings through the whole thing. But once you fall into the flow of the album it's hard to not enjoy what they've done here, my fears of them "selling out" (because they're now on WB records) were all put to rest, one can sleep good knowing that: "Hey, at least there's still Avenged Sevenfold!" As for the screaming being gone, they throw it in as a background effect, just check out the intro to "Beast and the Harlot" and listen closely. Arrangements and melodies all flow nicely with the mood and atmosphere they're trying to convey with "City of Evil" and they succeed in keeping the listener completely hooked through every chord and every gallop of the double bass. This is just a "phase" in the ever evolving monster that is A7X; expect greater things to come as more albums become unleashed, TRUE fans will find this album more than fitting as a follow-up to "Waking the Fallen" (which has "S.t.S.T." purists also complaining if I remember correctly). A7X really are proven masters of their craft, anyone who complains about this album or the choices made by A7X were obviously the "dead-weight" that was hoped to be cut off through this album; those who (are) were just into the "fad" of Metalcore bands need just turn away, those who own and hold a copy of the 99' Demo to their hearts and proudly display A7X tattoos will be proud of "The City of Evil".

Free Music Review: forget the core this is pure metal.
Hit: 5 Stars

avenged svenfold have done exactly what they set out to do with this record, which was seprate themseleves from the hardcore scene as much as possible. sure waking the fallen was a great album and i love hardcore and metalcore so im nowhere near bashing those genres, but aveneged 7x was always one of those bands i could tell where thrown into that genre because they came out in a time when it was popular and they hated it. there new cd sounds like something that could have came out in the late 80's a great retro-metal album. some people complain about the vocals well consider the circumstances, and they even said they werent going to scream becuase everybody does so its not selling out, and yeah his singing isnt as clean but this is suppossed to be an in your face metal record with plenty of attitude and the grity vocals help that come through. i love the vocals the fit so well with what the band was trying to do and we all know shadow could sing like he did on waking the fallen if he wanted. the guitars on this cd are beyong belief, guitar solos all over the place and each one of them is amazing. this band shows off all their talent on this record and deliever a cd any classic metal fan should love. sure you have those who will say they were metalcore so always metalcore i dont care this sucks blah blah blah but you know they are close minded idiots and so are the metalcore fans who wont give this record a chance because theirs no screams well boo freakitty hoo why dont you cry about it. i hate how people have their certain little things a band must do or they sold out. oh you dont scream anymore you sell outs or you dont have as many breakdowns or anything else it is so stupid to sit there and whine and cry like little kids about stuff like that. i like the whole western feel they added to the beggining of track 7 or 8 i cant remember distinctly. in conclusion fans of classic metal stuff that came out in the 80's early 90's should really like this and it gives a new generation of kids a nice introduction to the genre.

Free Music Review: I'm addicted
Hit: 5 Stars

I totally understand the people that don't like the vocals on this album. The singer seems to be singing through his nose or something. He also has a hard time reaching tough notes as opposed to Waking the Fallen where the vocals were just increadible. I think his recent throat injury scraped his voice.

However, I must say that, after about 10 listens, I actually love his voice on that record. I'm just addicted to the songs and I love this record. Even with Shadow's limited voice now, A7X managed to produce an insane album. These guys are real genius. I mean, all the songs are a lot different from each other and they are all different from Waking the Fallen. What more can you ask for ? If they repeated Waking the Fallen style, everyone would have blamed them for sticking with the same successful formula. Now they take risks with new approaches, still people are spitting on their effort.

This album is refreshing. A7x is without a doubt my favorite band of all time. All their songs get catchy at some point. The beauty of A7x is that the songs are not that good when you hear them at first, but after a couple listens you start hearing new stuff to which you didn't pay attention before and you finally get addicted.

I'm not here to tell people to buy this record. I don't care. Everyone has different tastes and you cannot change anyone. What I can say though is that lots of people listen to the album only once and go straight at their PC to right a destructive review about the record. Why don't give a couple of listens before doing that ? Over the years listening to lots and lots of music I realized that my favorites albums are the ones I didn't like at first. That's the beauty of music.

In brief, in my opinion, City of Evil is Avenged Sevenfold's 2nd Masterpiece and I could not tell yet if it's better or not than Waking the Fallen, only time will tell.

I just hope A7X will remain for many years to come.
