Free Music Review: AMAZING
Hit: 5 Stars

there are a lot of metal and hardcore bands out there all basically doing the same thing. that is not the case for avenged sevenfold. this album was made by kids in which the oldest member was 21, and already they can play as fast and as clean as they do. the music is amazing, the lyrics are very well written and have a tremendous amount of meaning. on this album they tend to scream a little too much, but i cant complain because the singer is still amazing on this album and im more than thankful that its not just another band with constant screaming to the point where it gets on my nerves. the things that make this cd awesome (aside from the awesome musicianship all around) are riffs like the intro for "chapter four" and the breakdown in "second heartbeat" with the music playing behind the singer saying "as time passes by, regret for the rest of my life," it sounds PERFECT. i can go on and on about the reasons why this album is awesome but your best bet is to just give it a listen because odds are not everyone is going to agree with me, so find a friend of yours that has it and listen to it, and i guarantee most of you will like it if you appreciate talent and you like progressive metal. avenged sevenfold is awesome!

Free Music Review: well put together
Hit: 4 Stars

This album was very good. M. Shadows has an extremely melodic voice and can change from piercing screams to melodic singing in an instant. The only reason I gave this album 4 stars is because it had too much singing for my taste. I liked the screaming better than the singing. But that shouldn't stop anyone from buying the disc. If you liked Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, you will definitely enjoy this album. If you liked City of Evil, you may have mixed feelings. Anyway, this is a must-buy.

Free Music Review: Uhn?
Hit: 1 Stars

Ooh, this is innovative metal that draws influence from punk rock, power metal, and melodeath? Do tell. What I hear is more watered-down metalcore that does little to deviate from the "Gothenburg + crappy hardcore" niche the genre dug itself in long ago. Although the two guitarists are competent, their masturbatory fretboard duelling adds nothing to the songs' structures, which are little more than montages of the music each member of the band enjoys. This band puts the "overrated" back in [finish pun yourself].

For better current American metal, check out Nevermore, Cephalic Carnage, High on Fire, Mastodon, Dillinger Escape Plan, Soilent Green, etc.

Free Music Review: Really cool cd
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is awesome. When you think Rock is completely dead now and emo has taken over, listen to this. The guitar solos are freaking awesome. I didn't really like their debut, "Sounding the seventh trumpet" but this is really cool. The vocals are really freaking awesome too. He screams a lot but that's ok because he can!

"1. Waking the fallen" 5/10
A great opener for the album. Once M. Shadows goes "No one can touch us" you can't turn the cd off.
"2. Unholy Confessions" 10/10
Something not even Slipknot could do. This song makes the whole cd worth every single penny.
"3. Chapter 4" 9.5/10
Awesome song. The screaming matches along with the beat and sounds really cool. It's not as good as "Unholy Confessions", though. The song also changed halway through to an almost totally different tune. Still one of the best songs on the cd.
"4. Reminissions" 7/10
The chorus is great but the screaming of the verses sounds like a little too much. The guitars as always are awesome.
"5. Desecrete through reverence" 10/10
The beginning sounds a bit like the previous song but it instantly gets stuck in your head. The screaming is awesome in this song and the chorus in the best so far in the album. It's very epic.
"6. Eternal Rest" 9/10
The beginning is just a little weak but when the organs kick in you just stare at the cd player. Freaking awesome! The only bad thing is if you are a scared-to death dude and listen to this before you go to bed, good luck.
"7.Second Heartbeat" 10/10
It's California rock. No other way to describe it. How did they get this good anyway? Eternal Rest just a opener for this. Great harmonies. OMG!
"8.Radiant Eclispe" 8/10
By now everyime you hear an intro, you think it sounds kind of familiar. This song has a nice melody but the song changes too much. There's like a couple melodies they use in this. This is how "City of Evil", their next album turns out. A little too much.
"9. I won't see you tonight pt.1" 4/10
At first it's a nice a ballad and it's not that M. Shadows can't thing but it just keep dragging on and on. It's not that's it's so long I don't like, (I listen to Pink Floyd's 20 minute songs with no problem) but they could have made this 5 or 6 minutes at the most. This is an overload.
"10. I won't see you tonight pt.2" 5/10
A little better than the first part. Thought that you could rest from M. Shadows' screams for a while? This barely even has a melody. They should have really listened to this point of the album and said "Maybe we could do something else with this". Bleah.
"11. Clairvoyant Disease" 2/10
I really don't like this song. It seems like they just were bored and made it up as they went along.
"12. And all things will end" 7.8
It seems like the experiments are now over and they try to return to the original concept of the album. After hearing what has happened since "I won't see you tonight", you can't really welcome it back yet. Listen to this and skip the bad songs. I guess just about every cd has a little snooze part in it, though.

So now your asking "Why did you give this 5 stars when a quarter of the album was so bad?". I just skip the bad songs. If you keep that under the rug and forget about it, you got a really cool cd. Strongly reccomended. I also suggest "City of Evil" too if you have enough patience to let it grow on you.

Free Music Review: this album is amazing, and you have to be an idiot if you think otherwise
Hit: 5 Stars

look, i'll honest. Once I thought that these guys sucked also. But that's before I listened to this album, which is amazing. To be honest, i really really don't care if they're not considered metal, the point is that they sound really good. The guitars are awesome, and if you think that the drumming sucks, then you are in fact a homosexual. as for vocals, i never used to like screaming, but i think thats something that grows on you. so i dont blame u if you think that the singing is bad, but you have to be on crack if you think the rest of the band sucks.
