Canadian Music Store Free Music Notes for Avril Live AcousticFree Music Review: acoustic EP shows Avril can sing and has good songs
I really got into Avril after watching her "Control Room" show that aired on the WB television network. In an acoustic setting her charisma really comes through, and the songs hold up well in that simplified format. Since Avril hasn't done an MTV Unplugged (yet, I hope she does at some point) and the Control Room is only available online, this CD originally sold through Target is the only chance to have an official acoustic release. It's a really nice collection of songs, and with only 6 tracks it flies by leaving me wanting a lot more. I think this was made before her Best Damn Thing CD, because there are a lot of songs on the acoustic Control Room performance from that album that were excellent, and not found on this CD EP. Regardless, the six songs that are on here are all good. It's nice to hear Avril sing without tons of backing tracks and studio overdubs, because her vocals really do shine and sound great - they don't need to be burried in production. She has just the right mix of girlish charm and punk snarl to make a fresh impact in pop music. I wouldn't say the acoustic versions are better or worse then their original releases, just different. If you like Avril I highly recommend this acoustic CD. I read some reviews saying this limited CD is selling in the hundreds of dollars... that's crazy. Right now here on Amazon it's listed at $12 and I got it for $3 off eBay. No CD is worth a hundred bucks! Good grief. Highlights include He Wasn't, Don't Tell Me, and Nobody's Home. |
