Free Music Review: Avril ROCKS!
Hit: 5 Stars

I've seen and read many negative reviews in the past done by these so-called anti-Avrils, stating that Avril is a poser, or she is a disgrace to all punk bands. I'm just going to tell you, this is a CD, not a poster of Avril, which you may judge. It seems like everybody here is judging her looks and putting a stereotype on her, and not paying to close attention to the albums content. If you're going to give this CD a star, don't do it just because you hate her as a person, because that's just plain shallow. There's a good chance that if you hate Avril as a person, then you are going to love this CD. If you are considering buying the CD, read my grades. I loved this CD. If you love Michelle Branch or Alanis Morrisette then you are going to love this CD! Meh grades:

1. "Losing Grip"- A+ [single]
Good song, kind of pop, kind of rock. Really pop in the beginning, then turns to rock. About a breakup (like many of her other songs) and betrayal. It was also a single on the radio for a short amount of time.

2. "Complicated"- A+ [single]
You've seen the music video, you've heard it on the radio, it's a single. Beautiful song. Enough said.

3. "Sk8er Boi"- A [single]
A cute song. It's rock/pop song about a girl and boy that secretly both liked each other but the girl would never tell. It's also got a lesson to it. At the End, Avril sings about having a relationship with that boy.

4. "I'm With You"- B+ [single]
This is a nice, winter-y song, that would be beautiful if Avril worked on it just a little more. It's got a nice violin when it's played, but towards the end Avril sounds like she's getting out of tune or possibly shouting.

5. "Mobile"- A
Awesome song, awesome guitars. It's about moving away and leaving everything behind, and about changing. A song almost everybody can relate to if they ever moved before.

6. "Unwanted"- B
Good the first few times, but definitely not her best. Like "Losing Grip" its kind of about betrayal, but its guitars are much harder, and the lyrics are not her best, and are a little on the strange side.

7. "Tomorrow"- B+
Not the best song either, unless you're in a bad mood, because this song is just slow. Just like "Mobile," it's about changing (sorta) and carries the "I'm not ready" message. The only instrument really played is the guitar in this song.

8. "Anything But Ordinary"- A+
A very nice song, that's about being weird (and maybe just not fitting in). The lyrics are a little strange, but the song overall is very cute. It's kind of like Michelle Branch's "You Get Me." One of my favorites on the CD.

9. "Things I'll Never Say"- A+
Cute song, with nice guitars in the beginning. Sure, it's a little juvenile, but I admire her way of writing this one. Anybody who has a crush can relate to this one!

10. "My World"- B
This song is about Avril and her growing up, but I really think she doesn't need this song tacked onto this CD. Not the best song on the CD, it doesn't reflect her talent.

11. "Nobody's Fool (If)"- A+
This is a fun, half rap, half pop/rock song. Nice guitars in the beginning, and Avril does a good job with the rapping. I usually hate rap, but when Avril does it, it's good! It's about somebody trying to turn her into somebody else. You need to "step up" and sing this one!

12. "Too Much To Ask"- B-
Not the best song on the CD, either. It's probably the worst song on the CD. The lyrics aren't the best, either... it could use some work, and her voice isn't her best. It's another song that's about not being true to yourself.

13. "Naked"- A
This is one of Avril's more romance-like songs. It's about ... yeah, you know. :P It's kind of pop, though- but it is a song about a deep relationship!

Enjoy! And remember to check for Avril Lavigne's 2nd album (she promises it will be more 'rock-ish'), coming late this year or early 2004! ;)

Free Music Review: Every single song is worth it
Hit: 5 Stars

1. Losing Grip -A song about letting go of a relationship after a breakup, realizing the guy wasn't ever there for her in the first place. It has a great rock, energetic, kick ass vibe to it. I love the chorus expecially where she belts out. "Why should I even care?" 5/5

2. Complicated -About someone who changes who he is to fit in around his friends. Something so many do, and Avril sings that she just likes him the way he already is. No doubt this one was a hit, because at the time, it was a refreshing change of pace to be heard on the radio for a change. 5/5

3. Sk8er Boi -I love songs that tell stories, and have some sort of message behind it when you actually sit down and read the lyrics. This one is an entire story really. About a girl who likes a guy, but wont date him because of what "crowd" he is in, and it has a twist at the end of it. 5/5

4. I'm With You -The first soft ballad on the cd. It's about feeling lonely and vulnerable, and missing someone you've never really met, hoping the person of your dreams is really out there.
I found this one to be really pretty. 5/5

5. Mobile -The first unreleased track. I really loved this one. Its about making changes, and moving forward. Great beat, lyrics, everything. "I'm waking up to say I tried instead of waking up to another tv guide." 5/5!

6. Unwanted -This first track on the cd that I wasn't really crazy about. Simply as its titled, about a person who keeps shutting her out and ignoring her. It has a different kind of beat to it, but great rocking guitars, and lots of emotion. 4/5

7. Tomorrow - A softer, acoustic ballad. I LOVE this one. It's hard to describe the feeling this song gives off. It's about being pessimistic that things aren't going to work out when someone tells you, but having faith that you might be able to change yourself "tomorrow." 5/5

8. Anything But Ordinary -Great song. Great lyrics. It's a song about wondering if life is really worth it, but still wanting to feel some excitement and not let it all go to waste. A sad song, but very inspiring at the same time. 5/5

9. Things I'll Never Say -This is kind of in continuation of the last track in a way. Wanting some excitement. It's a song about things we say in our head, but are afraid to say out loud. 5/5

10. My World - A bit of an autobiography about the place where Avril grew up. A small town, where there's nothing to do. Something you can relate to, and what its like to live an everday, average life, and wondering where it will all end up. 4/5

11. Nobody's Fool -Different. She raps a bit in here, but she sounds really good. (just try singing this, its kinda tough) This song has a great flow to it, and good lyrics. She's singing that she can see through when people want to change her. 5/5

12. Too Much To Ask -A lof of people would be able to relate to this one. It's about liking a guy. Where he acts like he doesn't care, is cold and tough, but she can see right through it. 4/5

13. Naked -One of the more pop sounding tracks on the cd. It's about being with a guy, being happy, and having him see right through you. Being able to be your true self and are accepted. A refreshing way to end off the cd. :) 5/5

So, as you can see, every song has a different topic, and story to tell. There are absolutely no filler tracks. The lyrics, music, emotion, are all really good. If you've gone through some tough relationships, or tough times, and want to hear a cd with some diversity in the songs, then I reccomend you pick this one up. I listen to all kinds of music, and although Avril is mainstream, and overhyped, liked by little kids, in all honesty, this is still a really good cd no matter who you are.

Free Music Review: ¤Get out of Avril's way, Britney¤
Hit: 5 Stars

This CD blows Britney clear out of the water. I've read some of these reviews saying that Avril is another pop Britney singer, but no! She's amazing, she can really sing, and she isn't afraid to be herself in public! I'm sick of all these people comparing her to Alanis (Alanis is an awesome singer, by the way) and Brit and Michelle, because Avril is none of those. She's Avril. Avril Lavigne. Now, here's my review on her songs:

1~Losing Grip: Song that is really hardcore and strong. It's actually something you catch yourself singing to. I liked this song...a lot. My Rating: *****

2~Complicated: I'm sure you've all heard this. It's usually the first song you'll flip to when you get the CD. This song is a really cool song, and if you turn up the bass it rocks even more. I recommend turning this one up loud! My rating: **** (It's an awesome song, but it's the only song that some people know Avril by. I mean, the other day, FIVE people in this one chatroom didn't know who Avril was until I mentioned Complicated!)

3~Sk8er Boi: This song is soooo fun to jump up and down to! It makes you want to grab a random guitar and start jamming, even if you don't know how to play the guitar! The guitar solos are fun and make you wanna scream, and the Lyrics are fun to sing along with! This song is great when you are depressed. Turn it up and jump around! My rating: *****

4~I'm with you: This song has a cool chorus and it's a good one to listen to when you are tired but can't sleep. I don't know why, it just makes you relax. Her voice is so awesome in this song. Her lyrics also rock. My Rating: *****

5~Mobile: How many of you want to be rock stars? Well, you think it's perfect, wonderful, fun....that's probably true, but this song tells about some of the downs of her career. My Rating: ****

6~Unwanted: Go guitars! And go Avril! This song is soooo cool and it sends a good message. What's fun about Avril is to listen to each song and guess the message. This song is a good one to jam to! And one of the reasons I say Avril isn't Britney Spears. My rating: *****

7~Tomorrow: Song that you find yourself singing to and not realizing it. This is a cool song, and her voice soothes me in this song. This one song seperates her from Alanis (hey, don't get me wrong! I love Alanis) My rating: ****

8~Anything but Ordinary: This song is her biography! She definatly speaks her mind and describes herself. And it's fun to sing with. Her voice is so cool in this song! And the lyrics are perfect. My rating: *****

9~Things I'll never say: At first I didn't get this song, but it didn't matter, because the song was sooooo fun to sing to! I know i've said that a billion times, but the melody is soo catchy! Now that I know the lyrics, I like it even more! My rating: *****

10~My World: I love this song! It's pretty much my favorite! Wow, this song is one that I can relate to, but I can't. Maybe that sounds confusing, but I think if you listen to it you just might agree. Cool chorus! My Rating: *****

11~Nobody's Fool: Avril gone rap. It rocks. It's awesome! I love this song and it's my all time favorite (besides My World). It's also got singing, which makes it the perfect combination. I hope this song comes on the radio soon! My Rating: *****

12~Too Much To Ask: This song has a powerful message and describes a boy that think's he's sooo cool. This song is cool and the lyrics fit the title perfectly. My rating: ****

13~Naked: I don't like the lyrics much, but the music overall is cool and I could definatly hear this one on the radio. Chorus is also awesome. My rating: ****

~*¤Overall, Her CD is awesome and I'd recommend it for anyone that's tired of Britney. BUY BUY BUY!¤*~

Free Music Review: Avril is indeed anything but ordinary
Hit: 5 Stars

In my opinion, Avril Lavigne's Let Go is the most impressive debut album since Tori Amos' Little Earthquakes. I love everything about Avril: her sound, her song-writing prowess, her guitar-playing talent, her voice, her commitment, her honesty and realism, her attitude, her confidence, her individualism, etc. It's interesting to go back now and look at some of the critical reviews that came out when this album was released, seeing how even as beautiful and powerful a song as I'm With You was sometimes dismissed for its supposedly amateurish lyrics. Those who put down Avril's lyrics on this album don't really understand Avril Lavigne; this album is the product of a sixteen-year-old female trying to discover herself, deal with relationships, and generally figure out just what kind of world she is suddenly becoming an adult in. I'm no longer a teenager, but I like to pretend that I am, and these lyrics spoke volumes to me. The range of emotions Avril touches upon in her music run the gamut of normal teenager issues, finding extra fuel in a self-confidence and feeling of purpose that most young people (as well as most adults) will never know. I also hear a lot of critics say Avril sounds like Pink here, Alanis Morrissette there, someone else over here, etc. There's no reason why she wouldn't be influenced by other artists; even the most accomplished people get where they are by standing on the shoulders of those who have come before them. For my part, I find Avril absolutely original; while she may incorporate styles or sounds from elsewhere, she melds them all together into a sound and style all her own. Further proof that this is Avril's music can be found in the fact that she backed away from the talented professionals she was matched with when she first came to New York, then fortunately found in LA Reid a producer who allowed her to truly be herself.

I am continually amazed at the tracks on this album. Any one of these 13 tracks could be a hit single; that's how good this album is from start to finish. Of course, Complicated is the song that sent Avril into superstar orbit, Sk8er Boi gave us ample evidence of Avril's skateboard punk rock foundation, and then I'm With You and Losing Grip gave us glimpses of the vulnerable side lying not far below the brash and confident surface of this energetic new artist. Normally, you would expect some loss of intensity in the remaining songs, but not here. Avril really seems to have her finger on the pulse of a most vibrant life, reflecting her wonder and fascination with the world she is embracing for the first time in songs such as Mobile and Tomorrow. Things I'll Never Say is an exploration of private thoughts everyone she be able to relate to, Unwanted and Too Much to Ask reflect the confusion and vulnerability of the human soul, but Avril boldly declares that she is Nobody's Fool. Avril's sense of empowerment and confidence are two of the strongest, most appealing aspects of her music. My favorite song on the album, and perhaps the one that best represents Lavigne herself, is Anything But Ordinary. Too many of us die inside at an early age, and Avril seems to be determined not to let that happen.

The extras included on this enhanced CD are well worth noting. You get a short biography, a look at a day in the life of Avril Lavigne featuring impromptu performances on the sidewalks and subways of New York City, interview footage, the Complicated video, as well as - and this is certainly something not to be missed - an extra song track. Obviously, I'm a huge fan of Avril Lavigne, and I could not have asked for more from any veteran performer than I got from this newcomer on this extraordinary debut album.

Free Music Review: An awesome album!
Hit: 5 Stars

I really like this album- it's one of the best I've heard in awhile. I think most of the songs are introspective and pensive, but at the same time they are happy and catchy which is extremely difficult to do. Creed writes alot of introspective lyrics that are just as good as Avril's, but their music tends to be a bit depressing. She can write lyrics about real life without them being accompanied by depressing or angry music. I think that she is real and just wants to be herself, contrary to what others may believe. Until I see evidence otherwise that she's a phony, I will continue to believe that she's genuine and I think her lyrics and music portray that. Not to mention the fact that she's socially responsible and a good role model for children who need a positive role model today, probably more than ever. Anyway, here's what I think of the tracks:
Losing Grip~ A really good song that I and probably many others can relate to lyrics-wise. The guitars are really awesome, as well.

Complicated~ Very catchy and very true.
Sk8r Boi~ Yuck! No thanks, I could do without this one. It's not horrible, but the lyrics are weak, the music is weak, and the overall song is really immature and weak.
I'm With You~ Very pensive, very introspective. I think it's about wanting to get away from everyday problems and finding someone to be with, even if only briefly. I can completely relate to this song- it describes exactly how I've felt many times. Unfortunately, it is being so overplayed to the point where I am almost getting sick of hearing it.
Mobile~ Okay- nothin' spectacular. Slightly better than Sk8r Boi. (Let's face it- ANYTHING'S better than Sk8r Boi!)
Unwanted~ Anger. Frustration. Resentment. Heartbreak. The only angry (and perhaps, a bit depressing) song on the mostly happy album. It is a very good song however, and the guitars are absolutely awesome!
Tomorrow~ MY FAVORITE! IMO, THE ABSOLUTE BEST SONG ON THE ALBUM! Looking to the future in the hopes that things will improve. I can totally relate. She also dubs her voice to sing simultaneously with her main voice in the background and the resulting effect is beautiful. It's ineffable- you'd have to hear it to know what I'm talking about. A work of art.
Anything but Ordinary~ A happy song. The lyrics are a bit weak, but they are very true to life. Also, very catchy.
Things I'll Never Say~ A very happy song about trying to be perfect when going out with a crush for the first time. Wanting to be loved by that person. She also has some dirty, but at the same time, innocent humor in this song (for instance; "I wanna blow you..... away"- 'clean dirty humor'- I think that's really cool). Another very catchy tune.
My World~ This is an awesome song- maybe the second best on the album, next to Tomorrow. It's about wanting to be somewhere else, wanting to get away- a song I completely relate to. The music is outstanding and the lyrics are equally as good.
Nobody's Fool~ This, I think is the only "punky" song on the album- other than that I don't know where people get the idea that she's punk- it's a very light song and much less seriously introspective than the others. A happy, light, and really cool song to listen to.
Too Much to Ask~ I could've done without the "weed" comment- I think it put a damper on a song that otherwise would have been good, especially to insert that comment so early in the song- it was inappropriate for a song of that nature and incongruous. Not a bad song, but not one of the best.
Naked~ A good song. Good music, good lyrics, but not one of my favorites.
I hope this helps anyone out who's considering buying the album.
