Free Music Review: If I see one more "avril sux she iz a pozzer" review...
Hit: 5 Stars

Avril has been around for a couple of years now. I have both her CD's, but this one in particular has a special meaning to me. Avril was the first popular artist that I ever listened to. (By the way, Avril is not POP, she's ADULT ALTERNATIVE. Got it, Avril haters?)

The album starts off with Losing Grip. Avril's voice is particularly strong on this one, it's got a little bit of a technopop flavor in some spots. Her guitarist does a really good job, too. Definitely a 9/10.

Next is Complicated, her first single. It's catchy and upbeat, and talks about being yourself. This was the first one that I heard, and I loved it from the beginning. This song was what got me into Avril. 10/10

Sk8er Boi is a little overplayed. I liked it the first 10,000 times, but now it's a little annoying. 7/10

I'm With You is a little slower-moving than Sk8er Boi and Losing Grip. It's one of my favorite songs. It's about trusting someone when you feel down, and I give it 11/10.

Mobile is a very well-done song about changes. The lyrics are straightforward, and the music is well-written. 9/10

Unwanted is definitely a song that everyone can relate to. It has a very strong rock rhythm and lyrics to match. 10/10

Tomorrow is one of the few Avril songs that stays slow all the way through. The guitar sounds really pretty, especially after a crasher like Unwanted. Her voice stays on key all the way through and doesn't vibrate or whine. And if you've ever heard the live guitar-only version, you appreciate it even more. 11/10

Anything But Ordinary is a song that I didn't understand at first. I mean, you hear her say, "Rip my heart out and leave me here to bleed," and then some stuff about how the world is incredible and she doesn't want to waste it...it's confusing! But after a while, you get that she's just saying she wants to be special. 10/10

Things I'll Never Say is a song about how you feel when you have a crush on someone, and you don't know how to say what you're thinking whenever they're around. Very poppy. 10/10

Nobody's Fool is another be-yourself-don't-do-it-unless-you-want-to song. Avril kind of raps in the verses of this song. 10/10

Too Much To Ask sums up how you feel in a relationship with someone who doesn't care much about you. Avril's singing on this one is probably a 12/10, but I'd say the overall song is 11/10.

Naked...Avril really hit the mark on this one! It's my favorite on the CD. The song is about being in a relationship with someone who DOES care about you (the opposite of Too Much To Ask), someone who you trust and don't think will ever hurt you. Very, very sweet...I think this is the only real love song on the CD, and I'd give it a 15/10.

Overall, this CD is a 12/10. (Off the charts! I told you she was good...)

P.S. To all you reviewers who did say, "avril sux she iz a pozzer," all I have to say is, "u nede tu lurn tu spel."

Free Music Review: One of the best artists today
Hit: 5 Stars

I purchased this CD after hearing the song "I'm With You" on the radio. I must say that I fell in love with it immediately and I still love it, 3 years after I bought it. Avril Lavigne shows a lot of raw talent in this CD. She may not have the most brilliant lyrics, but she knows how to turn sappy words into a good, stuck-in-your-head-forever song.

1."Losing Grip" - 5/5 stars; I think it was a good idea to put this song as her introduction to the CD because right from the moment it begins you get a feel of the punk and angst she puts into it. This song is about a past boyfriend of hers who is ignoring her. I personally like it a lot.

2."Complicated" - 3/5; The only reason I'm giving this song only 3 stars is because it was the first single she released and it is totally overplayed in my mind. But overall it's pretty good. The lyrics are catchy and fun and are totally addicting.

3."Sk8er Boi" - 3/5; A few years ago, everyone was practically in love wwith this song, but for some reason, I never really was attracted to it. To me, the song was just a little cheesy and was kind of stupid. But since it's Avril, I still like it.

4."I'm With You" - 5/5; This is a great song. I don't really get it (meaning the lyrics don't really fit together), but it's still a great song, probably one of my favorites on the album.

5."Mobile" - 4/5; This song is okay. I mean, I don't really listen to it all the time, but I still like it. It gets boring, but what song doesn't?

6."Unwanted" - 5/5; On most of the other reviews, people give this song really low marks, but I can't seem to understand why. I love this song. It has a fun beat and is awesome. i don't know what else to say.

7."Tomorrow" - 2/5; Avril's attempt at a rock ballad didn't really turn out that well in my opinion. The lyrics seemed repetitive and dull. But it's okay.

8."Anything But Ordinary" - 5/5; This a truly good. In her lyrics, Avril openly mocks herself for her craziness and idiosyncrasies and has fun while doing it. it's great.

9."Things I'll Never Say" - 2/5; I never really liked this song i don't know why. I guess it just seems so similar to her other songs. It has no hold on me.

10."My World" - 4/5; This song talks about Avril's life before being a rock star and it's actually pretty good.

11."Nobody's Fool" - 2/5; Avril's attempt to rap. Not good. I won't say anything else.

12."Too Much To Ask" - 5/5; I really like this song. It is really good. Another one of my favorites.

13."Naked" - 5/5; My favorite song on the album. This song is about Avril finding out that she truly feels comfortable in her skin and around those she loves.

Okay, this concludes my review. I 100% recommend this CD. Trust me, you won't regret buying it. (And Amazon.com has it for such a good price!) Thank you for reading this and I hope you enjoy your CD.

Free Music Review: Anything But Ordinary
Hit: 5 Stars

I was driving home one afternoon when on the radio came on this song. From the very first second I heard the song I immediately LOVED it. Which was amazing because usually with new songs I have to hear them 3 or 4 times before I really begin to like the song. But with this song.. I loved it as soon as I heard it. The sounds, the voice, the instruments, the lyrics..just everything! I had the radio blaring really loud. When the song was over I heard the D.J. come on the air and say "That was the new song 'Complicated' by one of our very new artists, Avril Lavigne" After I heard that song I knew I HAD to get the album as soon as it came out. I mean if I thought that song was so incredible the first time I heard it then I knew the rest of the songs on the album HAD to be very good too. So when the album came out on June 4th I ran to the nearest CD store and bought it. I even bought a couple of copies for my friends too. The minute I got home I opened it up and listened to. And WOW was the album AMAZING!! Every song had a meaning. Every song on the album talked about real life situations and feelings. The thing that makes the album so incredible and unique is that her songs werent just about love and relationships like most songs are today. They were about being yourself and being strong. And thats what makes the album so amazing. Everyone can relate to Avril's songs. Her songs have already affected me in a GREAT deal. After hearing her songs on her album they made me stronger. They also showed me my true self and the person I was hiding behind and pretending to be. "Let Go" is truley inspiring and can benefit for everyone. Not only are the lyrics powerful, but the music is incredible. Each song has its own sound and each sound touches you in a way that cant really be described. Also there are so many different sounds included in each song and they all come together to make such a wonderful song. I also love the mood of the album. The songs arent all the same. There are some very loud and rock sort of songs and then there are some soft and slow songs and even the song "Nobody's Fool" Is sort of an up beat kind of rap sounding song. So each song can fit everyone's music tastes. The great thing about Avril is shes not afraid to say how she feels and that really comes out in her songs as well. Shes not letting anyone tell her who she can and cant be and shes also showing people that they shouldnt pretend to be someone they're not and they shouldnt also tell other people how to be too. The whole album just inspires and changes you in so many ways its unbelievable. If you havent bought the album yet, you should. Trust me..Its Incredible. I have talked to so many people who have been changed by this album. Even the person at the cd store was telling me how amazing the album was while I was buying it. "Let Go" Is truley the best album there has ever been and will ever be. This album is "Anything But Ordinary"

Free Music Review: Good, solid, and promising stuff, tho not punk
Hit: 5 Stars

About Avril and her music, one generally hears two extremes (and lots in between). Some believe that she's a brilliant, talented, anti-Britney skater-punk queen, while others declare that she's a prepackaged phoney designed by a bunch of record company executives, marketed for teenyboppers riding the trend of prepackaged, sterilized neo-punk for posers.

There's some truth to both of these extremes, but ultimately I'm giving Avril five stars; I firmly believe that, at the heart of the matter, her songs are high quality and that she is very promising as an artist. Her image, on the other hand, undeniably doesn't quite fit and needs to be fixed.

AVRIL THE SKATER-PUNK?
I can believe that Avril's image derives at least somewhat from her real personality -- she was always a self-described tomboy in her hometown of Napanee -- but she rather self-consciously takes the image to an extreme which really doesn't fit her music style.

I respect this image to a point: it's hard to deny that she's anti-Britney in her looks, her clothes, her lyrics. But, as anyone who honestly listens to her music can see, she strains to maintain this image. Her music is not real punk, and I think she must realize that if she intends to go any further. I have no problem with Avril, but it makes me cringe to see young teens blasting her music and wearing neckties over tank tops, believing that this idolization makes them non-conformist rebels to society. (Then again, I was also like that as a teenager. :-P)

...BUT HOW IS HER MUSIC?
Avril's music is high-quality, solid stuff. Her refreshingly honest lyrics will resonate with many of us who have walked the line between feeling accepted and rejected, loved and hated, comfortable and out of place. Her tunes are beautiful, and her voice is highly expressive and technically refined. If you've heard songs like "Sk8er Boi" and "Complicated" waaaay too many times, rest assured that there are many fresh, high-quality songs on this album. "Naked" is a pleasantly un-syrupy love song that's emotional without being melodramatic. The lyrics of "My World" may not burst with Bob Dylan-esque profundity, but they work well at giving you a glimpse of Avril's life -- her thoughts, her dreams, her unanswered questions. "Losing Grip" and "Unwanted" are more in the style of rock than most of Avril's other offerings, adding variety to the mix.

Avril's music is limited by her experience. That shouldn't be too much of a concern: as Avril grows as a person, so will her music. "Let Go" is a smashing album as it stands, but I firmly believe Avril's best stuff has yet to come.

CONCLUSION
If you're looking for rebellion, look elsewhere. If you're looking for more mature stuff in a similar style, try Blondie. But if you're looking for the debut album of a promising young artist with a lot on her mind, Avril Lavigne's "Let Go" will not disappoint you.
