Free Music Notes for The Best Damn ThingFree Music Review: Definitely satisfying! Hit: 5 Stars
Well, I got my hands on a preview copy of this new album from Avril Lavigne and I must say WOW! I liked her 2 previous albums a lot, but this is so far the best one ...
This album is about FUN and I bet that Avril had a very good time doing it!
'Girlfriend'
We all know this one, so I just say I really love this song, even though when I heard it first I was kinda "shocked" (as probably most of us) but then it just grow on me, it's not some stupid teenage pop it goes deep and deeper the more I listen to it ... *****
'I Can Do Better'
Up tempo catchy song bringing back feelings from "Complicated" album, totally different then 'Girlfriend', when those who don't like 'Girlfriend' will just feel relieved and say old Avril is back ... *****
'Runaway'
Now this is a real treat, amazing up tempo catchy song one of the best Avril has ever written! This must be a single! *****
'The Best Damn Thing'
The beginning is like yet another cheerleader song, but then - such an amazing chorus ... It also has so funny lyrics ("I hate it when a guy doesn't understand why a certain time of month, I don't want to hold his hand ...") LOL! It's so funny! And the way hows Avril singing this one is just so great!! *****
'When You're Gone'
This one I still cannot listen on public ... It's heartbreaking ... So beautiful! And Avril's voice is just amazing! I always feel like I want this song last forever and never end ... Best ever ballad from Avril ... Next single! *****
'Everything Back But You'
Another up tempo song, one of my favourite! I love it, great funny lyrics ...
'Hot'
Probably the best song, amazing, catchy, fabulous ... I can't get enough of this one ... It's not enough to just listen to it, I'm feeling like I have to "eat" it ... The "Baby Baby" won't leave my head for a very long time ... Next single! *****
'Innocence'
Another beautiful ballad ... Powerful song, stunning lyrics which reminds me a part of my life, so this song is also very personal for me ... *****
'I Don't Have To try'
Avril is singing about her pants, maybe first song I won't like? No no "somehow" it's yet another favourite ... She use high pitched voice when singing "I don't care what you're saying I don't care what you're thinking" and it's so cool! *****
'One Of Those Girls'
Seems kinda average with no strong melody ... I like the lyrics though ... (Blond girls with blue eyes won't like this one) LOL
Then there's goes the "between chorus":
(You know it's a game, you know it's a game She keeps playing around with your head, playing around with your head She's so insane, so insane She's the one to blame, she's the one to blame) and suddenly it's a pretty good song! *****
'Contagious'
I like hows Avril singing in this one especially "out of my mind" part, she has such a great voice! *****
'Keep Holding On'
We all know know this song, we all love it, nothing more to say ... *****
To sum up, I can't help it, but I like this album the best! It's happy, funny, catchy and if Avril had decided to go to this direction I'm with her 100%!
The best thing is that Avril really tried to come up with a great album, when all the songs has some value and I can tell the more I listen the more I love it!
I'm glad she's not like the artists who just put 2 maybe 3 good songs on album and the rest just "fills up" the space ... (coz people are downloading just the singles on iTunes anyway, so why bother)
Awesome album, 5 stars!
The Best Damn Thing PosterLimited Edition CD/DVD (NTSC/Region 0) pressing includes a bonus DVD plus five bonus audio tracks: 'Alone', 'I Will Be', 'I Can Do Better' (Acoustic Version), 'Girlfriend' (Mandarin Version) and 'Girlfriend' (Submarines Remix). The bonus DVD features four songs filmed live at the Orange Lounge ('Everything Back But You', 'Girlfriend', 'Hot' and ' When You're Gone') plus three music videos ('Girlfriend', 'When You're Gone' and 'Hot'. Sony/BMG. 2007. The first clue to the sound of Avril Lavigne's third CD, The Best Damn Thing, comes in the form of her kickoff single, "Girlfriend," which is filled with singing, clapping, and cheerleader-style chanting. The song is quite a sonic contrast to her previous disc, Under My Skin, which was considered to be Lavigne's more mature follow-up to her 16 million-selling debut CD, Let Go. Like that debut, The Best Damn Thing will be largely and deeply embraced by teenage girls, and is packed with songs that will create enthusiastic sing-alongs in concert. There are a handful of numbers that will appeal to a wider audience; "Innocence" and disc closer "Keep Holding On" would both fit perfectly in a Gray's Anatomy episode, while the sultry message and solid harmonies in "Hot" will appease ears of many ages. Lavigne's husband, Sum 41 frontman Deryk Whibley makes an appearance as producer and instrumentalist on a handful of tracks; their union, however, seems to have bred more than love. "I Don't Have to Try" and "Everything Back But You" both have a frenetic pace and chorus that is so eerily Sum-like that if they weren't married, a copyright lawsuit might ensue. That aside, the record oscillates between lyrically acerbic fare ("One of Those Girls," "I Can Do Better") and fluffy sugar-pop melodies ("Contagious," "The Best Damn Thing") delivering far more spunk rock than punk rock. --Denise Sheppard
