Free Music Notes for The Best Damn Thing

Free Music Review: fantastic
Hit: 5 Stars

"The best damn thing," mega popular singer Avril Lavigne's third album is packed with fun songs and heartful ballads that will appeal to any teen girl.
The smash single "Girlfriend" is the first song, and invites you into this album as an energetic and powerful song. "Runaway" is milder in terms of energy and topic, but is fabulous to listen to anyway.
"The best damn thing" is reminiscent of cheerleaders, and is just as fun as "Girlfriend."
"When you're gone" is one of the first slow, meaningful and almost-sad songs that are included. "Innocence" and "Keep holding on" are similarly categorized, but each unique and show case Lavigne's talent.
"One of those girls" and "Contagious" as well as "Hot" are like "Runaway"- catchy and addictive and perfect for preteens and early teenagers that do not like songs that are overly hyper. I love them all.
And then we have "I can do better," "Everything back but you" and "I don't have to try." A bit frantic sounding, but are still a good, quick listen.

Out of all of the songs by Avril Lavigne, the most that I like are definitely in this album, as I like every single one. My favorite songs by her is "Girlfriend," "Runaway," "Contagious" and "Keep Holding on." More favorites include "My Happy Ending" and "Complicated," which I believe to be the best songs on her previous albums.

Here are my ratings and short descriptions.

1) Girlfriend (10/10)
Extremely fun and catchy and great as a ringtone
2) I can do better (7/10)
Not bad, but not a favorite. This is one of those songs where I like the verses better than the chorus, partly because of the lyrics, and partly because of its similarity to some other songs.
3) Runaway (10/10)
Love this song! Catchy and sticks in your mind long after listening.
4) The best damn thing (9/10)
Energetic and fun
5) When you're gone (10/10)
A song that is relatable and shows true vocal talent.
6) Everything back but you (8/10)
A bit frantic paced, but not bad at all. I don't think it really sounds like her, though.
7) Hot (9/10)
A lovely song that is both slow and fast and shows her versatility.
8) Innocence (10/10)
Touching and serious and melodious.
9) I don't have to try (8.5/10)
Interesting and different, which I like. Just a bit wild for my taste.
10) One of those girls (9/10)
Perfect for many different audiences and has a great chorus and is surprisingly easy to listen to.
11) Contagious (10/10)
Another fabulous song that I couldn't get enough of.
12) Keep holding on (9/10)
Featured in the Eragon movie, this is a great and heart felt song. It feels like Avril Lavigne is really sincere and believes her words strongly. It almost made me cry.

Avril Lavigne shows versatility and a wide vocal range and talent in this album. Perfect for most teenage girls ("Girlfriend," "The Best Damn thing," "One of those girls," "I can do better"), some preteens ("Hot," "When you're gone," "Runaway," "Contagious") and some young adults ("Innocence" and "Keep Holding on"
Many of these songs are appropriate for other audiences.
One more note: I've noticed that most reviews that are negative are not written by the target audience

UPDATE: After listening to this album for several months, "When You're Gone," "Runaway," "Contagious," "The Best Damn Thing," and "Everything back But You," are my favorites, although I still enjoy all of the other songs. Definitely an album I'll still be listening to in the future.

Free Music Review: A new Avril lavigne
Hit: 5 Stars

Okay at first you thought "Oh god what's going on?", well that's what I thought when I heard Girlfriend. But you know what? I love it now! It's a whole new style, not only that it shows avril in a new light. It's obvious from the album she's having fun and seems...happier than ever before. I especially love the power ballads.

-Girlfriend is a catchy song, nothing serious, just a fun song to sing ( annoyingly addictive too)

-I can do better reminds us of the old avril lavigne, no she isnt dead, it's a great song, not my personal favorite though.

-Runaway is one of the best on the album, very catchy tempo and suits avril's voice especially well. I love the chorus, i can really identify wih this song. If you're not happy when you hear this, by the end of the song you'll probably have a stupid smile on your face.

-The best damn thing was not what I expected, it starts very cheerleader like, this is something she's fond of and I am not really but it works with her voice. But seriously the lyrics are great, it just shows what avril is all about and how she got what she always wanted "her own cinderella story".

-When you're gone is a strong power ballad, which apparently she hadn't intented but it is beautiful, not as original as I thought it would be though. It doesn't make me want to cry as much as Innocence.

-Everything Back but you, this is another "old avril song", similar a little to her last album, very rock and rebel - it's good but not shockingly so.

-Hot, Now I loved this song. Not only because of the lyrics but of the tempo and the melody. It's an amazing song, she's able to work her lyrics really well into the song, it's the type you'll want to sing and won't forget. ( did I forget to say, it's probably about Deryck)

-Innocence, this is my favorite song of all the album (I like them all really), it's a powerful ballad. It reminds of myself a lot, it pictures a certain stage in your life which is precious - it shows how versatile Avril can be, i love this song.

-I dont have to try, well this is the first song Im not that keen on. The high pitch screams are a little much for me, they don't work that well. This rocky fast song combined with cheerleader vocals might appeal to some people but the "die" scream at the end ... well you'll see.

-One of those girls, you can already imagine what it's going to be about knowing Avril's style. The rythm and melody is still catchy, it's a good song really but i don't think it brings anything to the album.

-Contagious, the beginning reminds of one of Blink 182's songs. This is a great song, and I agree it's probably about her husband (weird saying that now huh?!), mix of rocky and punky.

Keep holding on well has nothing to do with the album really but it's still a great power ballad. It just doesnt reflect the album.
All in all it's one of the best album of Avril lavigne so definitely worth buying. Punky, rocky, fun and powerful is what I'd use to describe this album. So what if it isn't the old gloomy style? It's a great change and way more upbeat album, I can't wait for what she has in store for us!

Free Music Review: AVRIL LAVIGNE "THE BEST DAMN THING"
Hit: 5 Stars

First of all, I have to say that I don't see the point in anyone giving albums 1 or 2 star reviews when their review doesn't actually back it up, it just seems totally pointless, I guess the reason people do it is because they just want artists they don't like to have low ratings...

I've been a fan of Avril Lavigne's since her first single, I've seen her four times live and I'd say she's one of the few female artists who seems to put the music before anything else.

"The Best Damn Thing" is her 3rd album and Avril said what type of album she wanted to make here and she has done what she wanted, the album is different to her previous two albums but it seems that if you stick to a similar kind of sound to a previous album you're an artist who can't make creative music and if you make an album different to your previous one then you're selling out. I think this album is definately her best yet, her others both would get 10 out of 10 from me and this album is brilliant too. The album starts off with the #1 hit "Girlfriend" - everyone knows the song, the chorus is very catchy and it's just a fun song, "I Can Do Better" and the title track are both similar in that they have the cheerleader style singing in them. "When You're Gone," "Innocence" and "Keep Holding On" are all three of Avril's best ballads, "Runaway," "Everything Back But You," "Hot," "I Don't Have To Try," "One Of Those Girls" and "Contagious" are all uptempo songs, there's not that much to say about the album other than it's full of catchy pop songs, and Avril Lavigne is in the position to make whatever kind of music she wants.

Give me an A V R I L ! :)

Free Music Review: Best punk album I've ever heard
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm a big fan of punk music as I'm a punk. As I've stated before, I'm not afraid to order my food at the drive thru in german and breakdance on the hood of my car. You won't do that, but that's why you are on Celine Dion's mailing list. That being said, I would put this album at #2 as far as the greatest punk albums ever right behind the Sex Pistols and just ahead of UB40. This album has something and that something is attitude. I can't believe how awesome the song "girlfriend" is. It's totally original and Avril at her cattiest. There are other great punk anthems on this things as well like "Hot" and "I don't have to try". You may want her to try, but she is simply telling you she doesn't have to. That is punk. If she were a soccer player, the coach would say, "Hey, Avril, come over here and do drills with the rest of the team." You know what she would say? "I don't have to try." and there is nothing the coach can do at that point because you're dealing with a punk. I listen to this CD when I'm cruising downtown and I want to stick the middle finger up at the man. I love Jojo and Olivia Newton John, but they just don't pack the tude that Avril does. This album is really edgy with it's guitars and drums and stuff. If I were to sum 41 it up (how bout that play on words?), I would say this album is Sex Pistols meets Oingo Boingo meets Pat Benatar. Yup, it has that kind of power. You need to buy this album or enjoy the next three weeks playing stratego with Jeff while listening to Buffalo Tom. I sold my shares of average a long time ago.

Free Music Review: Avril Lavigne Returns With A Smash Album!
Hit: 5 Stars

I loved this albums. Some of the songs rocked hard, but some of the songs were pretty average for her, which I was unhappy about. But overall this album was a great one that is bound to become at least some high platinum. I am rating each song in case you want to buy some of them off iTunes:

1. Girlfriend 5/5: This is a super amazing song, and I don't understand why people hate it so much. It's not that bad, so get over the fact that people like it!
2. I Can Do Better 4/5: Not my favorite, but still a great song with a catchy beat!
3. Runaway 5/5: One of my favorites on the album. I think the lyrics are great and people can relate!
4. The Best Damn Thing 4/5: Eh. It's okay, but not the best on the album.
5. When You're Gone 5/5: Beautiful! It's no wonder it's a hit!
6. Everything Back But You 5/5: My favorite song on the album! I love the lyrics and the beat and everything about it! Perfect!!
7. Hot 2/5: I don't like this at all. I'm sorry, but it's just ridiculous and not a god song. I don't get why there's even a video! Sorry Avril.
8. Innocence 4/5: Great ballad.
9. I Don't Have To Try 1/5: *raspberry* Not good Avril.
10. One Of Those Girls 5/5: Another one of my favorites. Good lyrics and great beats and other stuff.
11. Contagious 6/5: Probably the best on the album. LOVE THIS SONG!
12. Keep Holding On 4/5: Really good song, but not one of the best.

There you go fans! =)
