Free Music Notes for The Best Damn Thing

Free Music Review: What happened!?
Hit: 2 Stars

Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of Avril. But I heard 'Girlfriend' and I knew that something had gone terribly wrong. I loved 'Let Go' and 'Under My Skin.' It's hard to believe that these are all by the same artist. Complete trash. I hope she'll go back to her old 'style' in the next album. Her career will be a dead end if she continues to release 'music' like this. I don't know why most artists completely change their music by the third album. If you're having so much success with your style as it is, why would you change it? I want my money back.

Free Music Review: Just wow.. such a disappointment.
Hit: 3 Stars

I don't know what happened to Avril over these last couple of years other than her marriage, but whatever happened turned her straight into an radio pop princess.

This album, sadly, has 11 ultimately forgettable tracks and 1 good one ("Innocence"). While I admit that the pop tracks are decent enough to be catchy and get me moving (hence 3 stars instead of less), fact of the matter is Avril is now making pretty princess egotistical pop music for the tweens and early teens out there; if it wasn't for the sheer amount of needless vulgarity in some of the tracks, this is the kind of album I'd see played on Disney Channel. Frankly, after several listens to this album, if I had a stepdaughter instead of a stepson, I wouldn't want her listening to this tripe, egotistical "I'm a princess and I get what I want because I'm a girl" music.

Every time I hear 'Girlfriend', 'The Best Damn Thing', and 'Hot' there are two things that pop into my mind: 1. "Hey Mickey, you're so fine.." and 2. I see that scene in the original 'Bring It On' where Kirsten Dunst is dancing around her bedroom listening to her soon to be boyfriend's song. That really shows Avril's new target audience. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but it's not what got Avril where she is. (For the record, Avril's NEVER been punk, and every time that label is applied to bands like Avril, I hear Sid Vicious turning just a little more in his grave.)

If there's any doubt that she's fully embraced the pop spectrum, just watch videos of the tour for this album. Fully choreographed dancers? Seriously?

So, thank you Avril, for making an album that will sit at the end of my case with Toni Basil and your fellow "pop-punk" friends Blink-182 where the CD will be ultimately forgotten. If this is the direction Avril intends on going, I'm glad it's sooner rather than later because now I know another artist to steer clear of.

Free Music Review: AVRIL LAVIGNE "THE BEST DAMN THING"
Hit: 5 Stars

First of all, I have to say that I don't see the point in anyone giving albums 1 or 2 star reviews when their review doesn't actually back it up, it just seems totally pointless, I guess the reason people do it is because they just want artists they don't like to have low ratings...

I've been a fan of Avril Lavigne's since her first single, I've seen her four times live and I'd say she's one of the few female artists who seems to put the music before anything else.

"The Best Damn Thing" is her 3rd album and Avril said what type of album she wanted to make here and she has done what she wanted, the album is different to her previous two albums but it seems that if you stick to a similar kind of sound to a previous album you're an artist who can't make creative music and if you make an album different to your previous one then you're selling out. I think this album is definately her best yet, her others both would get 10 out of 10 from me and this album is brilliant too. The album starts off with the #1 hit "Girlfriend" - everyone knows the song, the chorus is very catchy and it's just a fun song, "I Can Do Better" and the title track are both similar in that they have the cheerleader style singing in them. "When You're Gone," "Innocence" and "Keep Holding On" are all three of Avril's best ballads, "Runaway," "Everything Back But You," "Hot," "I Don't Have To Try," "One Of Those Girls" and "Contagious" are all uptempo songs, there's not that much to say about the album other than it's full of catchy pop songs, and Avril Lavigne is in the position to make whatever kind of music she wants.

Give me an A V R I L ! :)

Free Music Review: Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Hit: 1 Stars

If this cd had been edible, you would've fed your dog with it underneath the dining table the moment your mother looked away...
Yes, it's that bad!

It's so sad to think that some people actually spend their hard-earned money on superficial "music" like this, when there's so much great music out there with real heart and soul. You know, depth? Ever heard that word? Know the meaning of the word? Music with great arrangements and intelligent lyrics. Ever listened to music like that? No? Didn't think so. That's why you're reading this review...

Free Music Review: Being Fair....I am a fan of hers
Hit: 1 Stars

and I really enjoyed her previous works, more than I could have ever imagined, but this record is horrible. The songs are trite, the lyrics are incredibly boring, indulgent and immature. The music is pop staple, with forgetable melodies and repetative chorus lines, I feel as if the studio wrote the entire album for her while she was sleeping, this just doesn't speak to any of her previous works at all. This album fits on the same shelf with a Nickelodeon-themed CD. Instead of heading in the direction of an artist like Alanis Morrisette, she is going backward and joining the ranks of Hannah Montana and the Naked Brothers Band.
