Free Music Review: Avril Lavigne ~ Music for Chicks Who're Pissed at Dudes

Got this album for "Keep Holding On," the song that was featured during Eragon's end credits. "When You're Gone" and "Innocence" ended up being *bonuses* I wish Avril would write more heartfelt material like this...or whoever writes her material.
Otherwise, the rest of her songs have cheerful, upbeat melody, which contrast with the lyrics of her cussing at whatever dude(s) she's supposed to be talking about, or just dudes in general.
I just wish she'd kick the punk shtick, because I'm pretty much embarrassed to listen to the rest of the songs on this album, no matter by how much the radio's already ingrained them into my mind.
For someone who's supposed to be punk, why are her curses censored? She doesn't finish on "Sh.." "Bi..." or "Motherfu....." "Hell" and "Damn" are apparently kosher, though.
I'll give the album 5 stars, if only for the 3 songs that ARE actually good. After all, I only bought the album for one song, and ended up getting 2 other good songs along with it.

I love Avril. I love that she writes and produces all her own songs, started off songwriting and released her 1st album at such an early age. "The Best Damn Thing" Is just as good as the 1st album "Let GO" but perhaps better. She has grown, she enjoyed the success of "Let GO" and then released "Under My Skin" This album was terrific, but didn't sell as good, people thought, she was trying to be somone out of her skin when in reality this is who she is. And it suits her just fine. So she went back to writing and singing songs like when she 1st hit the scene. You have to appreciate Avril, she has some serious balads. "Keep Holding On" is just as Beautiful as the song she wrote that Kelly Clarkson sang "BreakAway"...
Go ahead and get this album and sit down pull out the lyrics and read along to her new songs, and you will crack up and bang your head to her catchy tunes.

Some people said her 1st album was punk and some thought she was a poser. Some said it was just a pop album. Some say its rock, some pop rock or even punk pop rock. (For the record she can sing good live and does play the guitar) Her second CD was considered too emo by some and was more rock, i didn't think so, i loved it. it was the 1st avril cd i bought.
The problem was while singing songs from under my skin live she said they were too depressing so she wanted to make a album full of songs fun to play live ~ thats why her music sounds like it does, and i love it.
Hot, when you're gone, best damn thing, innocence, everything back but you, i can do better, - i like EVERY song except runaway, it's good but i don't think it sounds like an avril song so much.
you don't have to really like this cd, if you like her music i'd say yes, if not, don't. Ya don't know what you're missing!!! jk

What is she like 21 years old? # 1 album as of this writing. I caught her on SNL and recorded her performances and have played them back a few times. If you are looking for something deeper well perhaps you need to be as young as this artist. I am sure she thought what she wrote was meaningful to her.
I like the upbeat tone of the album and like her as a performer. Its too bad people always have to try and classify and categorize artists... she thinks she is punk.. bla bla. She is doing her thing and it seems to me just about better than anyone else out there.
When her first album was released she was all of 17. I was in Peru at the time and I kept hearing the single Complicated over and over. I am pushing 50 and if I can enjoy it I think anyone can get into it. I most likely wont buy the CD but from what I have heard it sounds great!

What an awesome CD! Avril at her best. I like everysong, except when your gone. but I don't get it. People keep trashing this CD. Ok this is kinda like a Christina Aguilera thing. Christina got married, and made a double album of happy songs, shes happy now. and thats my first thought with Avril, she got married, she is happy now,a nd her and her husband worked together on this album. So it's more poppy and fun than her last 2 albums. It's like if Madonna made everyone of her albums with the same sound. it would get boring. thats why artist try new things, and Avril made a great album, still punk rockish and a bit poppy. I like it. now the standard version is clean, but the deluxe version with the dvd is not, but the first 2 tracks are the only ones with language. over all a fun and great album. a new side of avril. enjoy it!
