Free Music Notes for Under My SkinFree Music Review: Definently A Step Up ; ) Hit: 5 Stars
I must say that I am amazed by the quality of this cd. It definently is a step up for Avril. Under My Skin compared to Let Go has improved lyrically and musically...even vocally. There's even some piano on there, and it doesn't sound out of place...it's really something and i really enjoy this cd...here's my views on each song...1) Take Me Away: This one is a great introduction to this awesome cd. You get to hear a new sound from Avril. The short little "scream" that transitions you from the verses to the chorus sends chills down your spine. The chorus is addicting and can get stuck in your head. The climax or middle of the song, whatever you want to call it is pretty cool. Rating: 8/10 2) Together: There's that piano I was talking about. Nice little opening there...This song also hold a new sound within it. It's kind of remincent of Blink182 when she's singing this song...well...they are both canadian, still it sounds really good. I adore the chorus and the opening before it..and the guitars are awesome! Rating: 9/10 3) Don't Tell Me: Everyone has probably heard this radio hit. So I'm not going to give much of an opinion on this, since most have already formed one ;)...this song is fun to listen to and has an interesting introduction. Rating: 8/10 4) He Wasn't: This song is a fun "bouncy" song. The chorus is catchy and the "Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey" is cool and the "Na Na, Na na Na" is a "new feature" introduced on this cd. Rating: 7/10 5) How Does It Feel: The first "slow song" shown on the cd. It has a nice intro. just her voice and no instruments, nice...This song is very relaxing and the lyrics aren't half bad ; ) It has some nice strings in the background sometimes and the guitars are good too. The climax is amazing...it's a good song : ) Rating: 9/10 6) My Happy Ending: This is her second single, which will be released pretty soon...not sure on the date though ; ) This song is really really good (for lack of better words heh heh) The chorus truly IS addicting and it just get's stuck in your head FOREVER! lol...This is one my fav. on the album. Rating: 10/10 7) Nobody's Home: There are no words to explain how much i love this song!! It's not only the lyrics that grab you, it's the music and how she sings the song that pull you in. The music was produced by Ben Moody (used to be with Evanescence) and by Avril herself...she also wrote the lyrics for this song..as well as all the others...but this is one of the songs she wrote all herself..The tune is really addicting and the chorus is the best part ; ) Rating: 10/10 8) Forgotten: Another piano opening, it has a haunting/mysterious feeling to it...this song is a cool rock song. The guitars are nice, and it can get stuck in you're head sometimes..the climax is pretty cool too...."There's no point thinking aboot yesterday" heh heh..i love her accent... Rating:8/10 9) Who Knows: This song is another upbeat fun song to listen too and has some good lyrics. I always enjoy listening to this one, it's pretty addicting and catchy and the middle of the song, with the clapping is pretty cool : ) Rating: 8/10 10) Fall To Pieces: This is also a kind of upbeat song, it doesn't stand out much by itself but it's a nice addition to the album, still enjoyable. Rating: 7/10 11)Freak Out: This one has a cool opening with the guitars and such...this is, heh heh, once again an "upbeat" type of song..which i have nothing wrong, i like upbeat too ; ) This song is one of the best of the few upbeat songs on this album i'd say the second or..tied with another as the first best upbeat..anyway..the chorus is fun/cool and the middle is addicting..it's my fav. part, i luv it :P Rating: 8/10 12) Slipped Away: This is the third one of the three "slow songs" on the album. This one was dedicated to her grandfather so it's got some nice feeling put into it. I really enjoy listening to this one. It has a nice piano opening and has Avril humming which sounds kind of haunting, nice. And i love when she goes "Na na...na na na Na na..." it's great and the middle of the song is really good too...you get a mix of her canadian accent in there, which is cool...i love it! : ) this is one of my fav. songs she's ever done. I truly admire this one and it's a great conclusion to Avril's second album... Rating: 10/10 I'm definently looking forward to the third...until then i'm going to keep this cd on repeat like it has been for almost a week now ;P ...hopefully this review has assisted you in making a decision on whether or not to buy this album...Of course i say buy it, it's worth the money : ).
Free Music Review: Who says this LP sucks???? 'Under My Skin' makes Rock fans satisfied!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I haven't ever written a review before. This is my first time, so if I did any mistake, forgive me. But now, I have to write a review for Avril's second LP,'Under My Skin' cos' I REALLY LOVE This LP and I don't want people to get wrong about this because of unnessasary negative reviews of haters . There are two things I wanna admit. First off, I RARELY give 5 stars(which mean love it)to a LP. This LP is one of my very few five stars LPs. Secondly, I won't be biased about her music though I'm a very huge fan of hers. If the songs are no good, I will say,"These songs suck." If good, will say,"Good." I won't lie myself to my feeling on music and to others.
OK! Let's face the truth! Avril released her debut LP during 2002 named 'Let Go.' That LP is just a pop album which includes a couple of rock songs. At that time, she acted like a punk and I thought,"If she try to express herself as an alternative, should do more rock and alternative in her next LP than she did in 'Let Go.' Then, in the spring of 2004, she released her second LP named 'Under My Skin.' I was very expecting of this LP to contain more rock and alternative songs. Thanks God! The LP became not only what I was expecting but also one of my fav LPs. I DON'T mean 'Let Go' sucks. It's also great.(It have been sold over 6 millions in US and 15 millions in worldwide.) It used to be my fav album cos' I was a bubble gum pop fan before. But in compare with her second LP, I prefer 'Under My Skin' to 'Let Go' cos' I became a very huge fan of ROCK music. 'Let Go' will be satisfied for both pop and pop-rock fans, but not for people who like more rock like me. I give 5 stars to all the songs, so I won't write extensively. Among them, my very favouritest songs are 'Take Me Away','Together','My Happy Ending','Forgotten','My Happy Ending','Slipped Away.' All the songs will give you different feelings. But some have to be listened to twice, thrice and more like 'He wasn't','How does it feel' cos' it can't attract you for once. I'm a little surprised why she didn't make singles for 'Take Me Away' and 'Together' and music video for 'Fall to Pieces.'
There is also one thing I wanna admit that, as mention above, I used to be porn pop music fan before. When I started listening to 'Losing Grip', I like and can feel pop-rock and then Rock music gradually. For now, I absolutely become a very very huge fan of Rock music and I found that Rock is so strong, has more deep meaning and feeling than bubble gum pop. Thank you, Avril for teaching me how to feel Rock music and making me a very big fan of Rock Music! Hoping you would read this review!!! I start to listen and like rock music of others such as Linkin Park, Sum 41(her husband), Nickelback and many. You and Amy Lee(Evanescence) are my first fav female singers. And I also look up to her for not using 'sex' as an ingredient or tool to sell her music which is different from artists like Britney, Jessica, Jennifer Lopez and the rest who are NOT real artists and try to portray themselves as a hyper-sexed waanabe porn pop icon. Do ya think they can sing? NO! they can't really sing. I think people may like SEXY Artists but for a while. They except ones who can't feel real music, won't never give any respect to hyper-sexed artists. I Love Music but I hate music with sexy act. Using sex is NOT TOTALLY related to Music. I don't agree the fact that Avril has no talent. Everyone see how talent she is!! (Could you please shut your mouth, Haters???? Haters are destroying the real music. You'll see ALMOST all negative review has NO rigid reason.)
In brief, This LP REALLY ROCKS!!! 'Under My Skin' shouldn't be rated Under 3 stars. If rated Under 3 stars, I daresay you're a real hater and can't feel real music. If you're a die-hard fan of POP music, go and listen to 'Let Go'. I'm sure it'll make you enjoy. But if liked more rock and alternative, this LP is very suitable to listen. 'Under My Skin' is full of rock music. Pop fans won't stand it. And also check out her new single 'Keep Holding On', a soundtrack from upcoming movie, 'Eragon'. I'm hoping her upcoming LP due sometimes in first half of 2007 to contain rock and alternative songs like this one (she said that her next LP will contain more love songs) and also hoping her to show her Talent clearly and create real music without being sexy. May my review be helpful to you!!! Thank you for reading my review!
Free Music Review: much much MUCH better than her first one!!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
To be honest, while I appreciate Avril Lavigne's uniqueness and feminism, I wasn't that thrilled about her first album. Because that one IMO didn't blend very well as a whole, some are so electric guitar hard rock, while others are juss plain pop, and some kinda gave me a big head ache...
But this one is just GREAT!!!! Blended so much better and none of the songs are as pop-ish as her last one.
The thing is, I just like her music in that she's very unique. She wants to be aggressive, why the hell not??? Let her be aggressive and talk about flipping out men who cheat her. Her last one I felt wasn't aggressive enough, but this one she just pretty much let it all out, in fact, I think Let Go would be more appropriate for this album :)
I think those people who DESPERATELY tries to put her, or any unique singers for that fact, into a genre juss gets me tired, how about just call them alternative?? It's easier. Avril is some punk, some rock, some pop OKAY?? stop saying things like she's just a wannabe pop artist who tries to be punk, she isn't really punk, she's just the way she is.
As for people claiming she's a poser and such, well, every unique band/singer has been labeled that by some people who find their unique-ness distastful (and sadly majority are girls, I guess there is still a looooong way to go before society finally being cleaned of sexism). I don't know her as a person, but I don't much care. She's not one of my favorite singers (being overly bashing is not exactly my thing) but I still enjoy her music, enjoy her uniqueness, and even enjoy the aggressiveness and freakish attitude.
The reason this album got such a low score is because of that kid who used EVERY aliases he/she has to spam this place with 1-star ratings. If you don't believe me go read them yourself, you'll see that many of them are repetitive and similar, basically I-hate-rock-bands they cause a racket and Avril is just a bad girl blah blah blah, yep, happens to all singers who are popular, sad huh? Some people just NEED to spam every top artist there is.
And also about the one-star review on the top (top reviewers section) who said she's hypocretical. Okay first of all I checked it out, she NEVER said "Please Cry with me", she said, in How Does It Feel "Would you cry with me" which has a TOTALLY different meaning. this song I always interpret it as-I'm very lonley but I deal, in her lyrics she said "I'm not afraid of anything, but suddenly suddenly... how does it feel to be different from me? are we the same?" Second of all, oh geeeeez, alot of singers write about the contrasting feelings, attitudes etc, it's what keeps the listeners interested, not all albums has to revolve around ONE theme you know. Alot of albums, just like hers, wrote about being cheated and being loved, being strong and being vulnerable at the same time, would you also label them as hypocretical??? Third of all anyone who actually listen CLOSELY to her songs would know she covered a VARIETY of feelings, many times conflicting, NOT ALWAYS the "I don't care if you screw me" like in Don't Tell Me. She wrote about being in love in Take Me Away(want to be with the lover), Fall To Pieces (which is actually a very girly cute falling in love theme) and Slipped away (sad that the lover is away); She wrote about being lonely in How Does It Feel and Nobody's Home; Wrote about being carefree and happy in Who Knows and Freak Out; And of course, insecure love such as Together and Happy Ending. Alot of her songs she said she does care, please DO NOT judge a singer base on a few popular, radio-station-repetitively played songs.
And also I never really think that an artist's work would necessarily reflect the artist's personality. They might be close but it is very likely that an artist just want to try something new and unheard-of. So whether Avril REALLY is like the girl in her songs, I remain doubtful.
Free Music Review: Avril's finest masterpeice. Hit: 5 Stars
I read a few reviews about Avril's CD that really were disrespectful. I know that I might sound disrespectful by saying this, but Avril Lavigne has a good reason to dislike Britney Spears without getting to know her. Britney Spears is morally wrong and cannot sing. I don't care what anyone says- she does not have a good voice! She does not write but maybe a few words to each poorly produced CD she makes! She does not play an instrument, or could even try. I mean, Avril at least plays a little guitar in this album, which I hope to hear more of in the future.
It seems like every single celebrity is getting an album these days, whether it's Hilary Duff or Ashlee Simpson. And the singers are going onto reality shows, something else I look down upon (with an exceptional few that don't involve relationships and junk like that). While some actresses and actors prove to have tolerable voices, the others just really don't do much and are making albums just for the extra money that they could probably do without. Avril Lavigne proves she can make an album without being famous first and without singing anything bubblegum.
Here are 12 excellent reasons why you should pick up a copy of "Under My Skin":
1. Take Me Away- This is my second favorite song on the album. It's very angsty and a great way to start off the album. The only thing I hate about this song is it's length- it's the shortest song on the album. But still a fabulous song nonetheless 5/5
2. Together- This is an example of PERFECTION! This song blows me away everytime I listen to it. I especially like the prechorus: "When I'm alone I feel so much better, When I'm around you I don't feel together." This is my favorite song on the album. 5/5
3. Don't Tell Me- I think this is a great single and I love the beginning verse. It's very explanatory and does well as single, but it's still not the best song on the album. 4.5/5
4. He Wasn't- This is a definite sequel to "Sk8er Boi" in my opinion. It's cute- I really like the riff. The words just don't do much- they kind of remind me of something Hilary Duff might sing (Sorry Avril) but it's still good. 4.5/5
5. How Does It Feel- This is a very pretty song, talking about how Avril is different from the world. It shows her softer, less rebellious side. It's not my favorite, I really don't like the "ah ah ah ah ah" part, but still very beautiful in it's own way. 4.5/5
6. My Happy Ending- At first I wasn't too crazy about this being a single, but now I'm getting a little happier. I like the chorus alot. They overplay it on the radio, so I skip it on the album, but it's still a five star song. 5/5
7. Nobody's Home- I love this song! The lyrics sound very professional and the tune is good, it was cowritten by none other than Ben Moody, another true musician. 5/5
8. Forgotten- This is probably the hardest song on the CD. It's definitely one of my favorites, but the words could use some working on. Oh well, it's a fabulous song. 5/5
9. Who Knows- This isn't my favorite song, but I like it. I really like the riff, but I think this is the ultimate filler track. 4.5/5
10. Fall To Peices- This is the love song of the CD- it's pretty good. It's much more acoustic. This is a good song and I don't skip it. It reminds me alot of "Things I'll Never Say" from "Let Go". 4.5/5
11. Freak Out- This is one of my favorite songs with reason- I absolutely LOVE the first part. It sounds a bit faded, but the guitar just sounds so awesome!! 5/5
12. Slipped Away- This is the perfect ending to a perfect album. Period. 5/5
Well, there you have it. A great album. Better than her first by far, Avril calms down a little bit and we get inside her head a little more. Well done.
Free Music Review: This album should not be 'forgotten' Hit: 5 Stars
I thought avril's first album was quite good, but I soon got bored of it, with this album it's totally different. This is one of my favorite albums, which is suprising because I was never that big a fan but I am now! In the booklet you get with the album there are lyrics and a small poster, all the songs are written by avril and the album lasts for 43 minutes,(with the bonus track.) There are rock tunes (with a little pop), but also ballads and a few mid-tempo tracks, so there's variety. Lots of people say this is like Let Go, I don't agree. I think there are a few tunes from here that might sound alike, like "fall to pieces," "he wasn't" and "don't tell me," but it is much more mature. If you like any of her singles I'd recommend this.
Take Me Away - this is one of best on here, so a great beginning. This is one of the more rocky songs, a catchy chorus. This was my favourite on first listen. 9.5/10
Together - a slower start, which then goes in to a rockin' chorus. My fave bit in this song is the pre chorus "when I'm alone I feel so much better and when I'm around you I don't feel..." This is definitely one of the best songs. 10/10
Don't Tell Me - I think there are a lot of stronger songs on Under My Skin than this, which would be better as a first single, but it still is a good song. I'm sure you have your own judgement of this, so I won't go on. 8/10
He Wasn't - about a boy who wasn't what she wanted and didn't give that much of a damn about her. Some people say this sounds like "Sk8er boi" the guitar tune is similar, but not much else. It sounds like it could have been on her last album, but is still a great anthem (well it's kind of an anthem.) 8.5/10
How Does It Feel - This is a ballad, but not your average one, there is something new and different about it. The vocal here is good, also quite emotional. You can really get in to this and understand it what avril is talking about. 9.5/10
My Happy Ending- I think this is the best single she has ever released, I really love this song, and even though it's getting played loads I still think it's great. It's just so damn catchy! 10/10
Nobody's Home - This is my favourite track, it's a little sad, but really good. It's quite hard to explain the feel of it, but trust me it's good. 10/10
Forgotten - a new sound for avril, which really suits her. It's quite a haunting song, she goes high and low on the " ah ah" bit, which is really strange, but good. This is worth loads of listens. 10/10
Who Knows - This is a much brighter track, quite poppy, but what's wrong with that? It gives you a good outlook on life and is well, just fun! 10/10
Fall to Pieces - I think this song sounds a little like "Naked" from her first album ( I don't mean the actual lyrics, I mean the tune), but my friend who has this doesn't agree, so maybe I'm just crazy. It's mid-tempo and I love the bit near the end where it goes "want to know who you are want to know where to start..." This isn't much like the rest of the songs, so it's interesting. 9/10
Freak Out - This is all about just having fun and being free, it's a feel good song, which is very guitar driven like "He Wasn't." Very cool. 9/10
Slipped Away - A very emotional song about her Grandad's death, many can relate to the lyrics. It's touching and makes you think of the loved ones you've lost. This is an amazing ballad, defintely one of my favourites. 10/10
I Always Get What I Want - This is my least favourite, it was written by the same person she wrote "Mobile" with, but isn't nearly as good. It's rocky and is also a bit short at 2.33 mins. 7/10
If you like avril lavigne's style of music this is well worth the money you are paying for it, it's a great album!
