Free Music Review: If You Are to Buy Any Ayreon Albums - Buy This One Hit: 5 StarsVery recently I picked up my first Ayreon album to sample it and very much liked it. In purchasing about three to four of Ayreon's albums as a follow up, this is most definitively my favorite. This album is a miracle of collaboration and virtuosity. Since this is Ayreon's most recent album (a.k.a, Arjen A. Lucassen), it is easy to see that time has aged his musical ability like good wine. If the listener is lucky, most good groups have one excellent vocalist in the band. This album has a few outstanding vocalists including Simone Simmons of Epica, whose voice is like that of an angel. Additionally, the musical compositions are top-notch and imbed themselves quickly into the psyche, a sure mark of good musical artisanship. Therefore, all you progressive rock aficionados, make sure you pick this one up!
Free Music Review: Ayreon Still Has It All! Hit: 5 StarsAlong with The Human Equation and The Electric Castle this album never lets you down and never lets up. Arjen Lucassen has once again composed powerful songs filled with rich melodies and amazing textures and contrasts. The vocalists brought together here all perform beautifully! The special edition DVD is wonderful. Everyone clearly had a great time on this project.
I just hope we dont have to wait another four years till the next Ayreon masterpiece!
For me nothing can beat the music of Ayreon!
Free Music Review: Huge Prog-Rock Epic From Arjen Lucassen Hit: 3 StarsMulti-instrumentalist and all-around musician/savant Arjen Lucassen returns with a huge new 2-disc conceptual science fiction prog-rock opera, "01011001". A man of many side projects, Arjen has returned to his "main" band, Ayreon, and delivered a mixed bag of awkward lyricla narrative and unever, somewhat contrived music.
I should start by pointing out that one of my all-time favorite progressive rock albums is Ayreon's two-part epic "The Universal Migrator", and that I own many of his various side-project releases, such as Star One and Ambeon. Even his less ambitious works tend towards the grandiose-and that's definately part of his charm. The man is talented and intelligent, and always manages to assemble an all-star lineup of fresh vocal and instrumental co-conspirators for his ambitious musical projects. However, this time around the whole thing feels especially contrived and overblown, lacking focus, direction, and the memorable hooks and melodic detail evident in some of his older material....I also felt that he may have finally pushed a little too far into full-on sci-fi geekdom with this melodramatic and almost incoherent storyline. If you are a fan, however, you will probably want to pick this up.
Free Music Review: Unfinished music, newbies avoid this album !!!!!! Hit: 2 StarsGeez, this is the only worst Ayreon so far, I have all Ayreon albums, the singers doesn't have significant impact, most of them just sings in two bars, c'mon Arjen , you got Pain Salvation voice and Blind Guardian voice on your album, you should used them a lot like the way you used that Dream Theater guy, you too much concentrated on the story too much, you forgot how to craft it into good music, even the instrumentation was sub par compared to other albums, damnnnn i was expecting " Electric Castle Part Two ", but it turns out into " Electro Catrastophy ". I'm very very dissapointed. The big three of Ayreons are so great, not this one, this is sounds like unfinished music. I'm out !!!!!!!!
