Free Music Review: A great album by this 15 years old Baby Gangsta

"Chopper City" is one of Cash Money's first albums. It was released in 1996, a couple of years before the label signed it's maga-deal with Universal Records, and as the guy before me stated, this album was definitely one of the reasons for this contract to be offered. When this album was recorded BG was only 15 (!!), yet he handles the album like a grown-up, and actually "Chopper City" is one of the most street-oriented and gangsta albums delivered on Cash Money. I can think of only two rappers who were on his level (actually better) at this age - Bay Area's Mac Mall and San Quinn. Despite his young age, BG displays his raw talent to the fullest, and his signature style and talent were obvious even then. He raps about a variety of subjects, all of them dealing with street life - drug dealing, jacking, killing, bi@#&es, death, the strugle... Like I stated, 1996 was a couple of years before the Cash Money click saw the big time money, so you won't hear talks about Rolex Watches, Iced-out Chains or Big Bentleys. It's a street album, and that's it! Gangsta to the fullest... It's truth that B.G.'s lyrical skills are still a bit undeveloped at this time (although they are still good, don't get me wrong), but he still flows perfectly over the production, and his delivery is unique. The production on this album is also tremendous, as you'd expect by Mannie Fresh. Mannie was only 22 when he produced this album, but I guess that when it comes to a great talent, age means nothing. There isn't even one weak beat on this album, and he was only starting to develop his trademart sounds... There are just a few guests on this album - The Big Tymers, Juvenile (who delivers an awesome verse and proves he has always been the best CMR member), Bun B, Mac (later to sign with No Limit), Miss Tee and another rapper who's featured on the last song. They all do a good job, and sometimes even outshine the younger and raw talent BG a bit. Overall, this is a trully great album, maybe even a classic, since it's the beginning of a loooong line of awesome Cash Money albums... You play it from beginning to the end, without skipping a single track. A definite 5 stars album. It's also the beginning of a very successful career of BG, so it's also important in that way. If you are a BG or CMR fan, there's no doubt you'll love "Chopper City".
