Free Music Review: Underrated Gem; B-Legit's Quiet 3rd Album

B-Legit finally answers after a few year hiatus following 1996's classic Hemp Museum with it's apparent sequel, 2000's Hempin' Ain't Easy. I believe that this album was supposed to be released late 1998 or sometime in 1999, as it has a 98-99 feel to it. It was apparently pushed back much to the detriment of its sales. It is a dope album, not as good as Hemp Museum, but it has some gems here. The album is full of that Northern Cali Mobb music that makes the bay area so awesome. Production slaps and is held by Sam Bostic, Tone Capone, Studio Ton, Ant Banks, Meech Wells, and a few lesser known beatsmiths. I like the woozy synth driven, bouncy mobbster, wreckless livin' joint "Hard Head N---a." "Rap Star" features Little Bruce and has a semi-crunk vibe, and the 2 get they floss on with hunnys draped over them livin' the good life. B lights a fat J on "Blaze It" over a twangy, bouncy beat only he can rap over! One of my fav's (if not, my favorite together) is the south-west collabo on "I'm Dying With Mine" featuring Lil' Keke and Archie Lee of the Texas group Herschelwood Hard Heads. The beat is a sophisticated G-Funk scorcher with a nice range of laidback keyboard melodies. All 3 get their grind on with relentless spits. I also like Bosko's lowrider beat on "It's In The Game." Kurupt and Mack 10 show up on the L.A. lowrider style "Where The Gangstas At." Overall, B-Legit does real good with quality, just not so in sales, for this album is hardly ever spoken of; what a shame. If it were released on time, it may have done better in sales.Free Music Review: Solid 3rd solo album

B-Legit finally released his 3rd solo almost 4 years after his sophomore album (which is his best of his first 5) and this one isn't far behind. No longer with Jive/Sick Wid It, but it still has their sound to it. It's my 2nd favorite of his 4 albums I have (I don't have his debut from 1995). Packed with 17 songs, it has guests on about 75% of them (like most of his albums do anyway), but still enough of the Legitimate B to keep you happy. Of the 17, 1 is almost a classic, 3 I skip over, 3 are ok, and the other 10 are good. Production is real good as well, a lot of funky beats and nice deep bass grooves to fit his style nicely. Studio Ton does 5 songs, Meech Wells does 3, Sam Bostic does 2, and Ant Banks, Mr. Payback, Bosko, Big Time, Daz Dillinger, Tone Capone, and Big Sin all do 1 song. A must have for his fans or fans of Northern Cali rap.

Free Music Review: Shouldn't have been slept-on

After a long long wait, B-Legit's 3rd album was released, after the released date was pushed so many times. His first album "Tryin' To Get a Buck" is an underground classic, and his second album "The Hemp Museum" (his best) which was released nationwide in 1996 sold hundrieds of thosands of copies. Anyway, around 1999 B-Legit left Jive Records and Sick Wid It as well (although he remained close to the label he helped found together with his homie E-40), and "Hempin' Ain't Easy" was released by Koch. Most of the material on the album was recorded while B-Legeezy was on Sick Wid It, so nothing really changed!... Anyway, many people slept on this album, since about 5 years passed since The Hemp Museum, and ,a few people forgot about B... Not his true fans though. Because to me, this album is another classic. It may not be as perfect as The Museum, since it has about 3 or 4 filler tracks, but most of it is the great B-Legit we all love. As usual you get B-Legit's trademark voice and laid-back flows. Production is held by Tone Capone, Ant Banks, Studio Ton, Bosko, Rick Rock and others, and it's hella tight!... Since B-Legit is still a major figure on the West Coast, and gets a lot of respect everywhere, you get guest appearences from top notch cats such as - E-40, D-Shot, Richie Rich, Kurupt, Mack 10, Snoop Dogg, Little Bruce, Levitti, Mac Shawn, Harm and others!... The list as you see is quite impressive, but B-Legit still menages to shine on this album. He's maybe less of a savage, more laid-back and less hard-core than the previous two, but hey - B-Legit is an O.G. now, a Bo$$ in this game, he runs sh** from a higher level! He isn't dealing with wig-splitting and jacking as much as he used to back in the days! So many songs stand out, that I can't list them all. I feel that if this album had been released on time, around 98-99, it would've been a big hit. But because of label and legal issues, it kept getting pushed, untill the hype was gone. And there's no reason for that, since the album is a 5 stars album for sure. Don't make the same mistake other made and don't sleep on this one.Free Music Review: a needle in a haystack

Listening to E-40 got me hooked on the whole sickwitit family. I never would have bought this cd if I hadnt heard him rapping on E-40's 'All Tha Time'. Some beats sound like they have been recycled:To All My Playz - 2 pac's Hit Em Up

The cd is still blazin whether they were or they were not sampled. I would say GOLD ONES is the hottest track. Best tracks are KEEP IT P.I., WHERE THE GANGSTAS AT, HOOD RATZ & KUNCKLE HEADS. If you like the whole SickWitIt records family you will love this CD. Its not the best album, but something you should consider buying!
Free Music Review: 707 baller to the fullest

B legit came back to the game with an album full of ... smokes and henney. As a member of the sick wid it camp, the album is laced by sam bostic, bosko and all the people close to the mob style. The highlights came from "destiny" where levitti to his usual good job, "rap star" where lil bruce spits well. There are a lot of good songs and the guests such as snoop, mack 10, kurupt, the mossie and even dirty south lil keke show their skills and gave to this album a better taste. This album is off the hizzle, V-town playa 4 life, like mac shawn said "keep it PI" and order it at amazon cause this opus is a must have.
