Free Music Review: ONE OF THE NECESSARY SHOWS

Rodgers and Hart's shows have such sparkling scores that they should (mostly) all be recorded. (Why isn't By Jupiter on disc yet?) This recording is admirable in every way. The voices are a bit on the callow side, but then, it's supposed to be about kids -- putting on the proverbial show. Here's the real reason I wanted to put my oar in: the brilliant playing of the Coffee Club Orchestra. Rob Fisher has put together a crack ensemble, crisp as a Red Delicious apple. There's no sweeter sound than a Broadway pit band, and this band is choice. Keep on recording these Encores! productions -- PLEASE!Free Music Review: Brightly old-fashioned

The 1999 City Center Encores' presentation of Rodger and Hart's musical "Babes in Arms" brings one back to the days when musicals were musical. There were melodies, lyrics were clever, and love songs were passionate. This recording makes use of a small orchestra giving it the kind of authentic pit orchestra feeling. The songs are classics: My Funny Valentine, Johnny One-Note, I Wish I Were in Love Again and the Lady is Tramp among others. The young cast of unkowns have beautiful voices that carry the music. It was a joy to listen to this CD from the Overture to the Finale.Free Music Review: A "MUST HAVE" for any Musical Fan

Excellent in all regards, this CD is definitley on my short list of all time favs. Uniformly well performed but Erin Dilly and Melissa Rain Anderson truly shine. Try listening to "Johnny One Note" without your pulse quickening. And the "Jonny One Note Ballet" positively rocks thanks to the brilliant work of Rob Fisher and the Coffee Club Orchestra.
