We began playing this CD for my daughter as we fed her a bottle in her nursery before naptime and bedtime. I believe it was beneficial to both mom/dad and baby. It was very soothing. Now, two years later, we still play the CD every night before bed and often will play it in the car on long trips to recreate a naptime scenario in the car. Today I am buying a second CD as I am due with another baby in just a few weeks. My daughter was born 6 weeks early and is in NICU. The staff have this cd in a cd player near her bassinet and I play it on repeat the entire time I'm there visiting. Even on low volumes I feel it gives both of us something else to focus our listening on (instead of all the bells and alarms). It definitely helps to keep her calm and when its on she engages in "quiet alert" for longer periods of time. My 8-month-old son and I listen to this CD every night, and by the Pachelbel Canon (track 7) he's usually sound asleep. It is NOT ALL SYNTHESIZER. The jacket clearly states that the "Music Box Orchestra" includes flute, piano, cello, percussion, english horn, and oboe. As a musician, I am not offended by the "easy-listening" versions of these classics. In fact, I enjoy them. They introduce my son to the timeless melodies WITHOUT OVERSTIMULATING HIM at bedtime. As somebody who generally isn't into classical music, I thought this CD was great. I would agree with most reviews in that this particular CD isn't really that soothing, but I just enjoy playing it for my daughter while she is playing for some background noise (better than TV or radio music). I actually like the synthesized music and wish I could find more CDs like that. I find the true classical music hard on my ears and boring. This cd is wonderful for getting kids to sleep. When my niece and son are fussing in the back seat of the car I pop this cd in and they both are out after one song. At home my son goes to sleep better with this cd than with any others. Something about the way the songs are played seems to sooth him. I don't know what it is but I really appreciate the effect it has on my son. A few of the songs on it were played at our wedding so that is an added sentimental bonus.
