Free Music Notes for Black & Blue

Free Music Review: Nice. Worthwhile listening.
Hit: 5 Stars

This CD is what the other people who have given it 5 Stars said. Much more mature. Darker. You are dealing with some serious themes on some of these songs, especially "The Call." Here is the list of songs, and my reviews.

1. "The Call": As I said above, VERY SERIOUS THEME HERE! This song is basically talking about the consequences of cheating your girlfriend or wife or whatever you have. Wife, if you are married. This has a very serious theme. At first I didn't really like it. It grew on me though. 5 Stars

2. "Shape Of My Heart": Toned down considerably from the fast pacing and seriously mature theme of "The Call", "Shape Of My Heart", offers a nice break. 5 Stars

3. "Get Another Boyfriend": Still less serious than "The Call". I like the beat of this one. 5 Stars

4. "Shining Star": Talk about poor. No tune at all in my opinion. 1 Star can't begin to describe how bad this "song" is.

5. "I Promise You(With Everything I Am)": I like this song. It is nice and slow going. With nice harmony included.

6. "The Awnswer To Our Life": I LOVE THIS ONE! OH YEAH! ENCORE! BRAVO! This is by far my favorite one. I agree with the guy that said this ose his favorite. 10 Stars.

7. "Everyone": Decent beat. 4 & 1/2 Stars

8. "More Than That": Sweet song. Nice tune for the chorus. 5 Stars.

9. "Time": Decent. 4 Stars

10. "Not For Me": Another serious theme. Boy, they are getting up in age and maturity. Though not as serious as "The Call", it is a heck of a lot more serious than "Get Another Boyfriend". 5 Stars

11. "Yes I Will": Good. The beginning instrument segmant sounds remarkabley like "I'll Never Break Your Heart". 4 Stars

12. "It's True": Decent. 4 & 1/2 Stars

13. "How Did I Fall In Love With You": Pretty good listening. 4 & 1/2 Stars.

So from what you see above, I like this album. If you read my other reviews this is some info for you: 1/2 stands for 1 half(3 & 1/2- 3 and a half). Get this album and enjoy.

Free Music Review: Black and Blue- an excellent follow up to Millenium
Hit: 5 Stars

This album shows the boys talent in a whole new light. It shows that the guys can not only sing and harmonize beautifully, and help in producing songs, as they did on "Millenium". But that they can write! Write well, at that. It takes a lot of effort and cooperation to combine the ideas of five unique guys. However songs like, "Answer to our life", and "Time" (which is written by all five of them) prove that the guys can sing and pen a tune! Black and Blue has a nice blend of up-tempo songs that make you want to dance, such as: "Get another boyfriend", "everyone", and "not for me"("not for me" is a song that reminds you of "bye, bye, bye" and "it's gonna be me" but the vocals in "not for me" are much better). And tear jerkers such as "More than that" which has a tropical feeling to it. This is a welcome improvement from Millenium, which had it's most powerful songs right at the beggining, on tracks one, two, and three,Black and BLue is much more balanced. What I disliked about the album was the fact that they did not use everyone's voices equally, like they did on "I want it that way", and on "Show me the meaning", and "the perfect fan". However, not one song on this album used all of their voices. Whic was a little dissapointing because I expected them to take that fact to the next level, for that is what made me their fan in the first place. Yet in the end, I am still a happy customer, because pros outweigh the cons on this album very clearly. This album has a welcome sound with more substance and depth when compared to their fellow boy-band 'nsync. While the songs may not be too deep, who says music has to be, what matters as that their vocals are strong. With "Black and Blue" the backstreet boys have proved once again that they are not "just another boy band". They are men, songwriters, vocalists and ultimately artists.

Free Music Review: It's called "Black & Blue" because it has 'hit' after 'hit'
Hit: 5 Stars

I was anxious to get my hands on this album since I am a huge BSB fan and I expected it to be good--but these guys have gone beyond my wildest expectations! Several standout tracks, here are my favorites: The opening track "The Call" has this driving, pulsating beat that hooks you from the moment it starts, and the little "Gregorian chant"-like breakdown in the middle is unexpected and cool. Definitely deserving of being the next single and of having a sexy, edgy video. With "Get Another Boyfriend", they remind us all how much better "Bye Bye Bye" and "It's Gonna Be Me" would've sounded if BSB sang them. They have the attitude nailed on this song. It will be fun to see this one in concert. "Shining Star" just commands you to sing and dance along from the opening note--suprisingly effective and (despite being produced by Rodney Jerkins) it doesn't sound like a Destiny's Child cast-off. you can also hear the vocal maturity of Nick Carter most clearly in this one--he's a man , baby! It's a recent remake, but BSB definitely made this song THEIRS. Let's not forget the ballads/mid-tempos. Most impressive to me was "More Than That"--that guitar, Brian's seductive(!), reassuring cooing delivery of the lyrics, the hip-hoppy beat. Love this song! Another fave is "Time"--very personal, very Boys II Men-ish. I think the music does not do justice to the vocals on this song. BSB has performed this song on TV the past few days with very spare instrumentation, and the song takes flight. Babyface weighed it down a bit, but still, a great song. Nice to see the R&B back to their sound (I think "Millennium" was their most 'pop' sounding record). Go get this album! You'll love it!

Free Music Review: Good follow up, definitely improving
Hit: 5 Stars

I was dead set against -not- buying this album. Why? Too much hype, too much . . . craziness. I stand firm with my belief that these five are just normal guys, but now I definitely expand that to normal guys with incredible talent. This CD has a great blend of ballads and such, and on almost every song the music and the blends of everything that was put into the song just lifts it. The Call and Shining Star are the only songs I really have a problem with. There's nothing really wrong with the call as a song itself, but its not one of those songs that you can listen to over and over and never get tired of. Shining Star just grates on my nerves. A few of the songs that I absolutely -love- from this disc are Get Another Boyfriend (I got this CD about 2-3 weeks after I seriously ended things with my ex . . . heh), The Answer to Our Life, Everyone, and More than That. How Did I Fall in Love With You is a little too sappy for my tastes. If I had to choose a favorite song off of here it would definitely have to be The Answer to Our Life. I can just picture this song as background music at one of my friend's pool parties! It's happy, upbeat, and I just get the picture of people who care about each other and who are great friends just having fun and hanging out and everything's all right with them. There are some great ballads, and great dance songs on this disc and I couldn't ask for more from these guys . . . they're incredible. Anyone who still has the guts to call them a boyband after this disc needs to get their heads examined because they're no longer boys. Their music has matured and improved into their -own- sound. They have grown out of being a "boyband" and no matter what happens, there's always the music.

Free Music Review: They Get Better With Age
Hit: 5 Stars

The Backstreet Boys have been with us for about seven years now. No matter what they put out they remain number 1 throughout boyband land. With Black and Blue they prove just that.

(1) The Call (8/10) Not my favorite on the album, but defintely a keeper. It has a great beat and great singing, especially Nick.

(2) Shape Of My Heart (8/10) The strongest mid-tempo on the album, also the first single. They started big with this one.

(3) Get Another Boyfriend (8/10) My favorite up-tempo song. It has a great beat and awesome singing.

(4) Shining Star (6/10) This song is too cliched and not very well sung. I think Nick wrote this one. Good luck next time.

(5) I Promise You (With Everything I Am) (9/10) My favorite ballad on the album by far. But the next time you listen to it, it sound curiously like Nsync's Thats's When I'll Stop Loving You.

(6) Answer To Our Life (7/10) Cool song with great beats.

(7) Everyone (9/10) Remindes me of Larger Than Life. A great song for the fans.

(8) More Than That (9/10) The next single off the album and one of my favorites.

(9) Time (8/10) Good song with a sweet message. Its about how long they've been together and they're just reflecting on the past seven years.

(10) Not For Me (9/10) This better be the next single. This song rocks, great beat and awesome vocals.

(11) Yes I Will (8/10) I love the music on this one. This is also the only song in which you can hear Kevin. GIVE HIM MORE SOLOS!!!!!!

(12) Its True (7/10) Nice song with good singing.

(13) How Did I fall In Love With You? (7/10) The only good part in this song is when Howie hits the high note at the end--AWESOME!.

If this is a pretense on the things to come from the Backstreet Boys, then bring it on!
