Free Music Notes for MillenniumFree Music Review: Long lost Ninth ABBA album--FINALLY FOUND! ; ) Hit: 5 Stars
Actually I give it 4.5 stars, Amazon needs a half-step star system. Abba was a famous Swedish pop group from 1973 until 1982. They created some of the best delicate pop music ever done. Consider songs such as "Dancing Queen," "Fernando," "Mamma Mia," "Super Trouper," and their ultimate opus "The Visitors." They broke up at the beginning of 1983 and began their solo careers. There were rumors of a ninth album in the making, but it never surfaced; rather several tracks (probably the majority of the tentative 9th record) were eventually included on later rereleases of THE VISITORS, the eighth and final album. By 1998, Abba was a decade and a half in the past. A Swedish producer Max Martin had the dream of resurrecting Abba although in a literal sense the group would do no such thing. So he took the classic Abba sound, modernized it a bit, and recorded the songs for the 1999 upcoming Backstreet Boys' album MILLENNIUM. And to this day that album is the best ever released under the name Backstreet Boys. The opener "Larger Than Life" seems to pick up chronologically right where Abba left off: the transition from early 80's new wave into mid-80s power rock. And then there is the best tune of all, "I Want It That Way," which is a dark mid-tempo ballad launched by faint arpeggios in an acoustic guitar. "Show Me The Meaning" is like Beethoven's MOONLIGHT SONATA in terms of emotion; there is no hint of bubble-gum here. Even Abba didn't have songs this melancholy (Well, maybe "One of Us" and "When All Is Said and Done"). After that there are several ditties that round it out well: "I Need You Tonight" which is a solo song showing that cute blond boy Nick Carter can actually sing decently; "Don't Want to Lose You Now" which is beautiful soundwise without getting too teary; and "The One" another Abba legacy for anyone who loved the 1980 hit "Lay All Your Love On Me". It ends with two great ballads; "No One Else Comes Close" a love-making Babyface-style song and "The Perfect Fan," Brian Littrell's own work which reminds us how important mothers are even in the lives of notoriety. The harmonies are well-crafted on the record; there are no extreme R&B whining spells but the melody line doesn't get too monotonous. I can't possibly see these songs being forgotten and laughed at ten years from now. Maybe the celebrity phenomenon that is the Backstreet Boys will fade soon but this is a guaranteed legacy of their fame. Few albums in the "boy band" genre can catch older ears the way MILLENNIUM can. I doubt we'll see a teen-marketed album this good for many years to come.
Free Music Review: Mullennium= Great follow-up Hit: 5 Stars
Here's my review, KKK???*key* 5/5: Excellent 4/5 Good 3/5 OK but coulda been better 2/5 Kinda OK but definiately skippable 1/5 sux 1. larger ThAn Life- 3/5- It's OK. Unless you've been living in a rock for 2 years, you've heard it. if You have, the song is a tribute to their fans. I skip-up because it reselembles Everybody from they're debut a bit to much. 2. I Want It That Way-5/5- There's no xcuse for not hearing this song, seriously. It's a great song. It's about love. I myself, a Backstreet follower for 3 years now don't know the absolute meaning of this song but it's awesome. 3. Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely-5/5- Wonderful song hopefully you've heard this one. I twasn't as poular as the first 2 but still great. It's dedicated to Deniz PoP who unfortunately died in 1998. In the video, though, Kevin's part is about his late father (whom died in 1991 of cancer), Nick about being lonely on the road, AJ about not growing up with a father, Howie about his late sister, Caroline (I think that's the one that died it coulda been Paula; she died of lupus also in 1998) and Brian towards the terryfying event of his 1998 heart surgery. 4. It's Gotta Be You- 2/5- OK song. I always skip it if I'm just listening. It's about the boys telling a girl it's gotta be her, obviously. 5. I Need You Tonight-3/5- It's an excellent song except it's Nick's solo. I don't think they shoulda put one members solo, and if they DID put solos, they shoulda each had a solo song. 6. Don't Want You Back-4/5- Great song. Nick's voice is probably the best vocal in this one since he sounds much better with upbeat songs in my opinion and and the only reason I didn't get it a 5 stars straight up is because Nick also sings a majority of the song. 7. Don't Wanna Lose You Now- 4/5- great ballad. It's about the boys losing they're girl and getting her back but telling her they dont wanna lose her ever again. 8. The One-5/5- My fave. song on the album. I had to sit in the car for 3 hours on the way to mt. Vernon, GA and we stayed for about 4-5 hours then it took about 3 and a half to 4 hours back so i listened to this song a majority of the way. It's a great dance song, also to the fans. 9. Back To your Heart-5/5-Great ballad. The bous break up with a girl and want her to tell them how to get back to her heart. Simple, enough, right? 10. Spanish Eyes-2/5- Latin ballad. It's OK but I don't like it 2 much. 11. Don't know the title- 1/5- I hate it, but maybe you won't. 12. The Perfect Fan-4/5- Super-sweet osng written by brian Littrell back in 1998 for his mom. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 becaue Brian shoul've gotten more solos since it wa shis song. *Hppe that heped.( Sorry I can't type*
Free Music Review: An Awesome Album By An Amazing Band Hit: 5 Stars
This album is certainly one of the best I have ever heard. And let me say this, even though I'm a teenage girl I don't really like pop music. The Backstreet Boys are one of the only pop bands I like. I like them because of their indiviual voices which blend so well together and their great music. My honest opinion, well here goes... Larger Than Life- I think this is an awesome song. The beat is great and the whole style of the song is too. It 's written to their fans and since I'm a fan I love the song! I Want It That Way- I love this song! This is the best song they have ever done. The words are beautiful and are not sappy whatever anyone says. The guitar at the beginning really gets to me. The beat is perfect; it starts out quiet and slow but then picks up but not so much as to make it a fast song. Show Me The meaning Of Being Lonely- A sad song but I really like it. It is about being lonely as the title suggests. The words are a little confusing sometimes but their voices really are great here. And the music video explains the whole song a little more. It's Gotta Be You- A pop song. It's lighter and bouncier than Larger than Life but it's an upbeat song. I Need You Tonight- This song is sung by Nick Carter, the Boy that all the girls go crazy about. This song took awhile for me to catch on to, but I like it now. His voice is really good here and shows he has very good vocal quality. I love the piano in this song. Don't Want You Back- This song is very tight. I love AJ 's voice in this, and they sing it differently than most songs on the album. Don't Wanna Lose You Now- Yes, it is a very sad, sweet song, but it's one of my favorites. Their harmony at the end is what really gets me. The One- This song has a good dance beat. The style of the whole thing makes me want to get up and dance. The words aren't too bad either. Back To Your Heart- Cowritten by Kevin Richardson, this is a great song. I think it shows good emotion but I don't think they overdo it. Again, their harmony at the end is beautiful. The words are very deep in meaning, Some say sappy but I don't think so. Spanish Eyes- A kind of confusing ballad but it's pretty good. I think the instruments in this are the best. No One Else Comes Close- Again, another sweet ballad, but not one of my favorites. I must say that the BSB's voices in this are good though. The Perfect Fan- Written by Brian Littrell, this a very sweet song. It's written to their moms and I like that it shows they really do care for their family. It has a kind of gospel edge to it with the choir backing the Boys up. I really like it.
Free Music Review: GREAT START INTO THE 'MILLENNIUM'! Hit: 5 Stars
I've been a fan of the BSB since the beginning (1993) and still a fan now (2001) and will continue to be a fan. Eight years of being a BSB fan and loving every second of it! This is by far the best album by them and by far the best album ever in the world! This is the only cd I have that I don't skip over a song (or two). This is my review:1. Larger Than Life--starts off sounding really creepy in the beginning but in the middle, really funky sounding and dancable. 2. I Want It That Way--my all-time favorite song and the song that's constantly on repeat. 3. Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely--'Life goes on as it never ends' is the verse that gives me chills. That verse means a lot to me. 4. It's Gotta Be You--very dancable. 5. I Need You Tonight--one of my faves. Nick sings it and it's a love song--nothing better than Nick singing a love song. :) 6. Don't Want You Back--'But I should have known that I would be another victim of your sexuality/But now we're done and over with/I don't want you back'--sounds like something that Nick wrote for Willa Ford(--yuck!). 7. Don't Wanna Lose You Now--one of my faves. I love all love songs--they are always my top faves. 8. The One--very dancable. 9. Back to Your Heart--this song goes out to two guys. If I were to tell you what verse of the song hits me the most, I would have to type out the whole song. 10. Spanish Eyes--each verse of the song makes me think of someting. 'Knowing that hate is wrong and love is right' is powerful. 'It's a place I've never been and it comes from me within' makes me think of Heaven for some reason. 'I know the reason why I am alive and the world is so beautiful tonight' makes me think of a really happy moment I had when life made sense. To me occasionally, life doesn't make sense and one night, life did. 11. No One Else Comes Close--one of my faves (know why? If you said 'because it's a love song, you're right!). 12. Perfect Fan--my mom's favorite song on this cd. I dedicate this song to her every year on Mother's Day and every year, she cries because I'm so sweet. I don't just play the song and say 'Mom, I'm dedicating this song to you', I actually sing it to her. This is the most touching song on the album. All and all, this is the best cd ever and the cd you should grab if your house is on fire. This cd has helped me (and still does) through the tough times in my life. Wherever I'm sad, depressed, lonely, mad, etc., all I do is turn on this cd and I feel better. This cd will spread a smile across your face. It has for me and it should for you (unless you have no taste in music and don't know what's good but that's a different story.)
Free Music Review: Backstreet Boys second effort Hit: 5 Stars
I might be in exactly the age bracket that Jive is targetting for Backstreet Boys fans, but I listen to a wide variety of music. I can sit and enjoy pop, country, alternative, rock, classic rock, jazz, and most anything else. To me it is more about the quality of the songs than the hype or media surrounding the artists. If a song is good, it is good. It shouldn't matter who sings it. Granted, the Backstreet Boys do not write all of their own songs, although they are gradually contributing more and more. And they might dance in their shows rather than play intruments, but when you get down to it, they have amazing voices and they know how to put on an incredible show that their fans won't soon forget. I should know, I've attended three of their shows. Their second effort is such a wonderful jump from their debut, and critics and fans alike have acknowledged this. Songs like I Want it That Way and Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely have received Grammy nominations, simply because they are beautiful songs. If the people who so easily discredit the Backstreet Boys actually sat down and listened to their music, they would see their judements are harsh and unfair. It takes more than just decent voices to get to where the Backstreet Boys have gotten, and it takes more than just a year of effort. Come Spring of 2002 that Backstreet Boys will be celebrating a decade together. Yes, that's right, as long as many of today's tiresome rock groups. Their music is pure and simple. Their songs are not about death and suicide, war and famine. They are about the happier things in life, exactly the type of things that teenagers enjoy listening too. I enjoy getting into a car with my friends and popping in Millennium or Black and Blue simply because their songs are uplifting. Honestly, there are musicians that can give you the deeper songs. If you are on a quest for poetic lyrics about life, pop in a Pink Floyd CD and you're thirst will be satified. On the other hand if you want to hear a beautiful harmony of five strong voices, singing deliciously enjoyable songs like Don't Want you Back, Don't Want to Lose you Now, or my personal favorite from the album, Back to your Heart, Millennium is want you need. They might not make the same impact of music that the Beatles did or the aforementioned Pink Floyd did, but I guarantee that in twenty years, people will know who the Backstreet Boys are. Even more, if you play I Want it That Way for them, it will continue to get the grins of recogniation that it is getting today.
