Free Music Notes for Backwoods BarbieFree Music Review: The Barbie is back... Hit: 5 StarsDolly Parton is a living legend--the tawdy jokes, her plastic surgery, and her amazing music all create the image that we know as Dolly. After creating a remarkable trio of bluegrass albums Dolly returns to a "mainstream" sound. And what a return it is.
"Better Get To Livin'" has been released for a few months and is the album's sparkling opener. Dolly sings of her optimism and makes the perfect point that life is made for living and it's time to hope on that train. The second single "Jesus & Gravity" is a prayerful tribute to Dolly's faith--something she's never been shy to sing about. The song is a fully produced anthem complete with the engrossing cresendo of a gospel classic.
From start to finish this album is perfect. Dolly's writing has never lost it's touch, the soon to be classic "Cologne" will no doubt be included in Dolly's repetoire for years to come. The title track "Backwoods Barbie" is classic Dolly. Sweet, defiant, and pure country--in fact it harkens back her early 70's material from RCA. It fits snuggly with her legendary hits like "Jolene" and "Coat Of Many Colors". Other highlights include the brawlin' "Shinola", the heavenly "Only Dreamin'", and her fun cover of "Drives Me Crazy" (complete with bluegrass tinged sing a-long spunk).
Having been on the burner for months, it's great to see this amazing (and classic) Dolly album finally available. With the plethora of pop-oriented country available it's great to get your hands on a true country album from one of country's most thrilling legends. A definate must own.
Free Music Review: Dolly Parton is BACK Hit: 5 StarsI have always been a Dolly fan, but I must say this is some of her best work. The songs sound true and originally Dolly ( other than the two covers ). Even for non-fans this is a must have cd fo the music lover. Dolly is a true living legend, and I hope she keeps going stong!!
Free Music Review: A National Treasure Hit: 5 StarsDolly Parton is a national treasure and this album proves why Dolly reigns queen. She still has it and won't stop. A legend.
Free Music Review: Hello Dolly! Hit: 5 StarsThough her appearance often creates the most talk, it is her music that really shines. She is a prolific song writer and she triumphs with this new "mainstream" country album. The album has a little bit of everything from the fun Dolly camp of "Shinola" to the fantastic covers she pulls off "Drives Me Crazy" to the somber tunes "Made of Stone." Dolly is a true treasure and this new album is just as good as some of her best. Kudos to Dolly for keeping the songs flowing and our feet tapping and our hearts filled.
Free Music Review: Dolly at the peak of her powers Hit: 5 StarsThis is a marvelous album. The music is joyful and upbeat. The ballads are empowering. Overall, it is a fun and ambitious album which should put Dolly back on top, if there is any justice. She is a legend and a great songwriter. Her songwriting talent comes through on every track. Most surprising is her voice. She belts every song out with full power and has never sounded better.
My favorite track is "Backwoods Barbie." It has a great message about not judging somebody by their looks. Dolly may make a point of being glamorous and flashy, but she 'runs true and deep,' and she continues, 'even backwoods Barbies get their feelings hurt.' The song is both funny and endearing.
I would not even consider myself a country music or Dolly Parton fan, but you cannot help but love her and her music after hearing this album.
