Free Music Review: Got kids and like music? You want this CD!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Ditto to the other review questioning whether the Amazon reviewer had really watched the show enough. (As a minor point, "I Love Being a Princess" is sung by Tasha; Uniqua plays the Sphinx in that episode and her character would never utter those words. In any episode.) The voice talents (and I do mean TALENTS) are kids, and the adventures are certainly geared toward younger ones with active imaginations, but this is great music! If you are familiar with the characters and songs, it is easy to "accidentally" leave the CD on and sing away long after the kids have wandered out of the room or fallen asleep on a car trip. The music is written to be enjoyed on its own, not just background fluff. The composer, offbeat jazz dude Evan Lurie (of The Lounge Lizards), is galaxies away from dumbing down the music for kids. Heck, I strongly suspect that some of the musical influences and ideas are lost on plenty of grown-ups. And regardless of the genre that each episode's musical theme is pulled from, be it polka, swing, disco, bossa nova, late 70s New York rock, or whatever, it is all done with care and with authenticity.

So glad we have this CD! And the first one is great too! Plus the lyrics and show can be pretty funny.

Free Music Review: Great Family CD!
Hit: 5 Stars

We have the previous Backyardigans CD and were happy to see Groove to the Music while shopping recently.

I bought it for my son who has dozens of CDs--and I knew he'd like it...but I didn't realize how much! In the first few days, he listened to Groove to the Music several times a day! And, he still brings it out to listen to on his headphones at least ONCE a day.

The great thing about the Backyardigans CDs is that, in additon to being child-friendly, it's PARENT friendly. Unlike other repetitive, irritating, mind-numbing kid CD's, these songs are fresh, well-sung, and downright hilarious. And I LOVE the fact that introduces children to a wide variety of music styles!

And I admit it--I enjoy this CD as much as the previous one. From the jaunty We're Going to Mars to the ska-inspired Rad Moves--all the way to the disco-ish Shake Your Body to the Celtic-flavored Tree to Tree--Groove to the Music will keep your child--and you!--humming for hours. (Warning: these songs will get stuck in your head! But the good news is that these songs are catchy and fun rather than insipid and irritating.)

Enjoy!

Free Music Review: Doctoral student's down time
Hit: 5 Stars

Okay, so I *do* have the requisite 3 year old. However, my "grown-up sensibilities" LOVE this CD. I happen to think Uniqua the Pink is fabulous (and she is not the princess - Tasha is! Uniqua is the Pink Knight!

The incredible mix of music is one of the first things I loved about the Backyardigans, before I got to know and love the characters. The interest my son now shows in all types of music, from Rock Opera (Monster Detectives) to lullaby (Hush Little Mermaid) to Conga (Drumming Drumming Drumming) - it warms this mom's heart. So what if I'm not a cave person waiting for the Valley Cave People so I can howl at the moon? I can still shimmy to the beat of the Drumming song! And I'll never be a Princess, but I can certainly appreciate the lesson to always say "Please" and "Thank You."

Do yourself a favor. Buy this CD, pop it in, and forget being a grown-up for a little while. Remember when your backyard was your world and your imagination was your ticket to anywhere.

Excuse me, I have to go say "Arr..."

Free Music Review: Highly recommended
Hit: 5 Stars

My kids have been huge fans of the show for a quite while now. It is so much fun to hear them learn the lyrics and dance to the different rhythms. Definitely a big hit for the whole family. I personally love this CD and enjoy watching the show too so this CD is great for the parents to enjoy with the children. "Shake your body", "Eureka", "Super heros..." are their favorites, but as they listen to the CD, the favorite lists grows and grows... very catchy.

It's been almost a year since we've bought the CD and the tunes are still a favorite. We can start humming a tune and the kids will start to sing the songs since we've heard them so often. Definitely a hit on the two CDs that we've gotten.

I'm updating this review. This still one of our favourite CDs. As the new shows appear on the TV, we are enjoying the music even more. Kids are now 7 and 5 and still love the music.

Free Music Review: Everyone loves this, from baby to Nana...
Hit: 5 Stars

The editorial review is ridiculous...either she's never watched the Backyardigans, she doesn't have children, or she simply doesn't appreciate a wide diversity of music.

The fact that they use real children's voices for these characters was one of the most appealing aaspects of the show, but what won over the whole family is the wide range of music genres that are covered, such as swing, country, hip-hop, scat, rock, opera - just to name a few...

Contrary to what the editorial review states, you could play this CD over and over (which is typical of little kids) and not get sick of it...

With the questionable content of most popular music these days, it's nice to have the Backyardigans to play for your entire family, and be able to educate your little ones on using their imaginations while learning valuable lessons to music from so many time periods and cultures.
