Free Music Notes for Henry's Dream

Free Music Review: Lyrical Psychosis
Hit: 5 Stars

Nick Cave, on this album, finally reconciled his tender vs violent bits. Most artists resolve this via song, but Nick chose to take care of this via a whole new album that eschewed The Good Son in the hardest, nastiest way possible.

Which he did. Henry's Dream is an exquisite nightmare, a hodgepodge of narrative and violent image, coupled with a too-urgent folk thrum. An example "And midnight came and the clock did strike/in she came did John Finn's wife/with legs like butcher's knives/and I planted my eyes on the wife of mad John Finn..."

It only gets worse....

and more compelling.

A very good intro to a misuderstood talent. Buy it, why dont ya?

Free Music Review: Great Storytelling
Hit: 5 Stars

This showcases Nick Cave's songwriting; his lyrics have never been better. His vocals are mixed far in front of the production, and this works well - the stories he tells, in his words and his inflections, are keepers. Unlike many other lyric-based albums, this one stands up well to repeated listenings. The music is, of course, in fine form as well - the Bad Seeds can churn out incredibly strong, energetic sludge out of the Four Basic Rock Instruments. This is a remarkably mature album, with some frightening and disturbing themes.

Free Music Review: some of his best songs
Hit: 5 Stars

This is one of my favorite albums. "Papa Won't Leave You," "I Had A Dream, Joe," "Brutha, My Cup Is Empty," and especially "John Finn's Wife" all kick ass.

The song "Straight For You" was apparently meant as an MTV release, but when I saw him in concert promoting this album, they didn't even play it. Bravo!

The song about "when I first came into town" would be one of my favorites if the god-awful backup vocals were turned down by about 300%.

Free Music Review: a symphony of bile....
Hit: 5 Stars

This is one of my favorite albums of all time, and my favorite Nick Cave album. It lacks some of the more freeform, haunting melody of some of his other albums, but for raw emotion, it's unbeatable. There is no hint of redemption or hope in this album, but the lyrics are amazing - like there's some elegant outpouring of bitterness. It's one of the only albums that really seems to be a complete work in and of itself -- enjoy!

Free Music Review: Papa won't leave you Henry
Hit: 5 Stars

For me this is the best album by Nick Cave and the Bad seeds. I've had this CD since 1992. when it was recorded and it's absolutely fantastic. The songs like "Papa, won't leave you Henry", "Brother, my cup is empty" and romantic "The loom of the land" are one of the most powerfull Cave's songs. Vigorous, vulgar and romantic all completely wonderful. Listen it obligatorily!
