Free Music Notes for No More Shall We PartFree Music Review: Cave caves and it's okay Hit: 5 Stars
Okay, hardcore Cave-nicks? Got it yet? He's "lost the plot" ... And you're probably not happy about it. This is an amazing work of lyricism marked through, streaked throughout, with the mad poet's touch. His band is in top form and even if these are no doubt calculated gestures to capitalize on the success of The Boatman's Call, so what? Call it The Boatman's Call II, if you wish. If you haven't seen the video for "As I Sat Sadly By Her Side" ... you should before its yanked. Perhaps it's been on MTV too? Who knows. All I really want to say is that this is a masterpiece and everything the few negative reviewers herein have to say about it is, um, true to form, their form, insofar as Cave expects the nihilist-goth crowd to feel betrayed. Ciao.
Free Music Review: Bad Nick Is In The House Hit: 5 Stars
If you haven't given this disc at least five spins do not review it! I'm watching the ducks and geese in my pond and listening to the absolute beauty (and cynicism), of this wonderful music. Nobody in this current age is attempting music of this scope. He's pulling it off. Morrison, Cohen, Dylan should all tip thier hats. It's guys like Nick Cave that keep me comin' back for more, I could just give music up, the disapointments mount. It was ... near 20 years ago when Van Morrison started cranking out this totally ethedrial, spiritual, thought provoking, moody, lovely stuff--- i've not heard it since, until, frankly, The Boatman's Call, even though i've been a Nick fan for years. Listen up: catch him while he is at the hieght of his considerable powers.
Free Music Review: Perfection in its field Hit: 5 Stars
Thank whatever Gods you might believe in that thematic albums can still be conceived in our lifetimes--this time it's Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds delving into their own particular brand of morbidity and beauty. At first listen, all I could hear was Leonard Cohen, which is never a bad thing; Nick Cave wouldn't be the only performer influenced by him, but in fact, this album stands on it's own quite nicely. It's a very lushly produced album, and after 15-some odd releases later, it sounds as fresh as anything via the Birthday Party era, and takes up where 'Murder Ballads' left off. I bought it, sound unheard, just because it looked like a lot of heart and soul went into it, and I was right. One of the top ten albums this year, bar none.
Free Music Review: Most complete and satisfying album in years... Hit: 5 Stars
since Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach's Painted from Memory album. Anyone who knows this referred album and loved it with devotion to each song will appreciate even more the consistency and richness of Cave's latest album. I am quite surprised at the praise received by the previous "The Boatman's Call." While certainly an enjoyable album, it suffered from an extremely slow pace with the kind of melodic repetition that reduces the element of surprise compared to CAVE'S work here. I believe "AND NO MORE SHALL WE PART" to be his true MASTERPIECE. AS SOLID AN ALBUM, MELODICALLY AND CONSTRUCTIVELY, AS YOU COULD POSSIBLE ASK FOR. ALL ELVIS COSTELLO FANS OF LATE SHOULD CONSIDER THIS REQUIRED LISTENING.
Free Music Review: Love it Hit: 5 Stars
I love the fact the they experiment with different styles, but still maintain the same intensity and edge like all the rest of their work. If they kept putting out the same ol' stuff, it would get really old. If you are a TRUE Cave and Bad Seeds fan go out and buy this today. It might take some time to get used to, but once you do it will be awhile before you can take it out of your player. I just saw them perform last night and it was one of the BEST shows I have seen in a long time! They played a little from all their albums and the ones from No More Shall We Part were the most powerful!! You will not be disappointed in this one.
